May I introduce myself I am new here. I just had my 65th birthday. I got my little male Yorkie when he was 12 weeks old. He is silver/tan curley haired. I named him Captain Jack, because I am a fan of Johnny Depp, and the Pirate movies were all the rage when I retired. He is almost 5 years old now, stubborn, loving, and very opinionated, but well behaved. I have two cats, and believe me he is the Pirate King in my home. He doesnt much like other dogs, but feels very comfortable around cats. Money can be tight now, so I am trying to learn to groom him myself. I have a bit of a problem with nails and feet. I am also afraid I will cut his skin with the clippers. So, I hope I can come here, share some photos and adventures (getting ready for an airplane trip with him) and get advice from all you experts. |

Welcome to YT. You may want to check out this part of the forum for any help with the nails and other grooming needs. My grooming skills are rather limited, but I can get by if I have to, except nails have always been my weak spot, too. Yorkie Grooming Talk - YorkieTalk.com Forums - Yorkshire Terrier Community |

:)Welcome to YT!! |
Thank you all so much for welcoming us. I love it here too. My vet okd Jack for my trip to Texas next month. I will be staying with a friend who has an older Yorkie. In fact she is the person who inspired me to get mine 4 years ago. She was traveling through my area and stayed with me a few days. I fell in love with her little Puddin. Puddin is now 14 years old. So our dogs will be meeting for the first time. May be interesting. |
Welcome to YT! You will love this site. Very nice people.. advice, pictures, ideas, sympathy, friends, you name it.. you can find it here. Can't wait to see your Captain Jack! I am a Johnny Depp fan also!:p |
Welcome to you and Captain Jack! We have a great many fans of Johnny Depp and the Pirate genre! I went through my own grooming attempts but usually defer to the professionals. Ben will behave much better for those he does not know when it comes to grooming. He knows he can get by with too much with me. ;) But I do trim in between so I can stretch the professional grooming out a little longer than normal. Best advice I got on here was to buy a little Wahl Peanut trimmer -- it s advertised as the little trimmer with big clipper power, and that is true. It really makes trimming the hair between the pads, sanitary area, and ears easier. I liked mine so much that when they came out with a cordless version, I bought that too. |
Welcome to YT! I live just down the mountaim from you (in Ridgecrest) Nice to meet someone loical who loves yorkies too |
Oh wow Sunni, I just met a groomer in my local Vet's office from Ridgecrest, and I do go there occasionally. I'm thinking of calling her to set up an appointment. She seemed very knowledgable. Good to know someone so close. Debra, thank you for the advice on the Wahl trimmer....I will look for one. Nice to know others share my appreciation of that wiley pirate, lol. I am also a doll collector....my family and friends call me the 3-D lady....Dolls, Depp and Dog, lovingly, of course. |
