Vacuum Fear! Okay, so Bear HATES the vacuum...when I pull it out, he barks like mad! He will nip at it, freak out, yelp as if it's hurting him- I don't know what to do! I have tried to train him to stop, but it only makes things worse, I need help! :( |
 i am glad someone else has this problem ;) poppy hates the dyson , she barks , growls , and runs round in circles , she has done this for nearly 4 years  love jill n poppy xx :aimeeyork |
I had the same situation with Sammy. He still goes crazy but not as bad. What I did sounds a little odd but it worked. Sammy would bark when I took the vacuum out of the closet before I even turned it on. So finally I left the vacuum in the living room for about 2 weeks and let him walk up to it and smell it etc. He still barks at it but on a scale of one to ten, he went from a ten to about a three/four. I keep him in the kitchen when I vacuum so he doesn't get hurt. There was a time when I was vacuuming with him in my arms to keep him calm. |
Mine are the same. When I bring out the vaccuum all yorkies and cats head for the hills |
my sonny HATES the vacume, he attacks it and lets out this screech that wud but anyones eardrums, i have to keep him in another room. bailie loves to be hovered up lol and beau just sits and watches me hoverin:) |
Tinkerbell was very vacuum aggressive. I very firmly told her to stop and to go lay down, and she pretty much did. Now only once in a while she'll attack it, but only for a quick bark or two and then she just goes off into another room. I did have to get between her and the vacuum at one point though to get her attention... |
Olly is the same but Tia doesn't mind it however I now tell Olly to go to his bed and he now lays in there and sulks while i vacumm the house |
My babies are scared of the vacuum too!! However, they just hide when they hear it. When it's not on, Carmel will be curious. haha Luckily, they don't bark or anything. They just go somewhere away from the vacuum to hide. |
Both of mine hated it at first, but got used to it. Tia was so terrified of it, I had to hold her when she was tiny. I just stuck her in my pants pocket and she vacuumed along with me. Now, both don't mind it, but love to bark at it if mommy plays like it is going to get them!!! |
Mine doesn't bark at it (shes not a barker) but she runs out the doggie door and will stay out there until its done even if its raining and she hates the rain. Sometimes if I am not the one vacuuming I will take her into the bedroom while all the other rooms are getting vacuumed or my grandma will take her into the bathroom if I am vacuuming. I have tried taking her to it to sniff it and encouraging her to go and sniff it nothing has worked for us. |
We have a similar situation, except it actually scares the poop out of them...literally. The vacuum comes on and they poop on the floor:eek: So one of us has to hold them, walk them, or put them in their crates to prevent a bigger cleanup! |
I have the same problem with Nolee!!! Not only with they vacuum, but now the broom when I sweep! I have to put him behind the gate in order for me to get it done...going on 3 yrs now! |
Two of mine run for the Hill's as well when I pull teh vacum out. My other one could care less about it. |
i learned from victoria stillwell to give dogs treats when the vaccum is out and to give treats when it's moving near them and off. and then give treats off the vaccum itself and then start it up and start giving treats off it while running and moving until they kinda thing it's a giant LOUD treat machine...hope that mite help. it takes a lot of work but it's helping mine out a little with their fears. |
Mine are fascinated and afraid at the same time They run to check it out and sniff it but if it moves or I turn it on ? Watch out! |
Taycie hates the vacuum as well. I HAVE to put her in her crate while I do this chore or she will literally attack the vacuum. She comes up to it growls bites, barks, and has a slight freak out session. Oh yes, she HATES IT! |
Just before I came across this thread, DH pulled out our brand new Kirby to vaccum the sunroom. He noticed that the cord has been chewed almost all the way through. It (the cord) has been kept carefully wrapped up when not in use, as well as put away in the closet away from the furs. Neo is SO neurotic about our cleaning appliances! He barks and bites and raises hell every time Dh or myself pulls out something to clean with. If we leave it out, he will lay by it and growl. If we leave him alone with it. he goes for the cord! We have had to replace the cord on every appliance at least once, sometimes twice! Now its our new almost 2K Kirby!!! I think I need to wrap all cords in metal conduit! |
All Hot Rod has to do hear the vaccuum being wheeled out and he goes nuts. lol Maggie doesn't even pay it any mind. |
Sandy's so afraid of the vacuum cleaner since he was a puppy. When I tell him, 'Sandy, mommy's going to take BOO BOO out now, go, run and hide!!' He'll run and hide behind the sofa. He knows BOO BOO is the vacuum cleaner *lol* |
So, Bella isn't the only one, huh? Bella goes nuts when I vaccuum or sweep. She will bark, run around like crazy, and just generally become a nuisance. I've tried letting her "investigate" the vaccuum cleaner and broom but as soon as they move, she's at it again. I don't know if she is actually scared or if it is a game. My other dogs (lhasa's) lay on the sofa and look at her like she's nuts!:animal36 |
