Frustrated about the clueless "I want a teacup" people I finally opened my mouth at work about having reserved a lil girl and she would be ready in feb. Co workers asked what breed and i said a Yorkie. They all gasped and said a TEACUP?!!! you have to get a teacup!!! thats what your getting right???!...and one of the girls actually said im getting one very soon i ONLY want her to be 2 lbs. :confused::mad: I took so long in looking into the breed further before getting another yorkie because my girl died of kidney failure at 7 years old. I wanted a very healthy baby this time and whatever size she becomes is okay with me. "mico tiny" pups are so unhealthy that I couldnt take the heartbreak again. I at the time of getting my first yorkie furbaby I was only in highschool(I wish i was as educated as i am now). My sister bred her little two pound girl(that is soo wrong!!) with my brothers boy. I was blessed in having Cutie as my baby however it just makes me cringe that people are so uneducated and it does NOT matter about the health of the pup but the size... |
I agree! Finally someone else is saying it! I have an 11lb (parti) Yorkie and everyone thinks he is a mixed breed dog...nope he's pure bred papered and from a champion line...he does have health issues but I purposely searched for a large Yorkie because they are proven healthier...the whole micro mini and teacup is selective breeding that damages the overall health...some people just need to get hamsters and put a collar on them if they want a pet that small |
I know the feeling, its like banging your head against a brick wall. I hate when I take Poppy out and people say "oh my gosh shes beautiful is she a teacup?". :mad: For one Poppy is 6.5 months old and weighs over 5lbs so theres no way shes going to squeeze her ass inside a tea cup. But the ignorance is just too much, all we can do is try and educate and move on. |
It is sad when peoples facination with small means more than health. sturdiness or temprament. I think the tinies are cute also but theres something to be said about a dog being a dog and not a fashion accessory or just to be showed off because of its size |
I purchased the biggest puppy from the litter. The breeder also had another litter that was only gonna be albs grown. My Little boy weighs 3 lbs at 4 mnths old. Some people only want a yorkie to show off! It will come back around when their "teacup" has problems. I wish some people would understand that the breed standard is 7 lbs. Breeding for smaller and smaller puppies is just wrong! |

Maybe it's me, but I have no problem speaking up when the teacup conversation gets started (who me speak up? LOL). I like Brit's take on the whole teeny tiny thing...if they want something that small, why not buy a hamster? Mine are way over standard and I love them just the way they are. Rhett's not a teacup, he's the whole dang tea service. |

My baby is on the small side at 3 lbs 6 oz at 7 months. I've been asked before if she is a teacup. I simply smile & say no, she's just a regular ol yorkie. :D The thing about Lulu is that her saddle is still black & isn't showing any signs of changing so she still looks like a 3 month old pup...I think that helps with not having everyone question me on her size...they just assume she's younger than she it. FWIW, I did not search out for a small baby. I wanted the healthiest (& of course cutest, but they all meet that requirement! ;)) furbaby. I fell in love with Lulu. I knew there was a chance that she could end up being under 4 lbs & honestly, that almost kept me from getting her. But in the end, she stole my heart. :aimeeyork :love: |

I have what I like to call a cupcake.... he was not bred to be teacup... he was bred to be a healthy yorkie, he just happened to miss out on some growth genes. I'm getting so frustrated with people asking me if he's a teacup, that I'm thinking soon I'm going to start saying, "no my teacups are in my cupboard" or some sort of snarky remark. It's just not my style though, I like to be informative and polite, but gosh these people make me want to bash my head in the wall. |
Teacup thing has never bothered me.. Simply people that really don't know any better. Sometimes I will explain sometimes I just smile because its not worth getting upset. If the only problems we had in the world is people using teacup we would have it made. |
I always reply with "No he's a dog" and walk on. Stupid questions deserve stupid answers. Altho if someone asks me what breed he is I'll give them as much "good" info as I can provide at the time. Just last week I had a guy say to me "deem' dare dogs is like 1200$ right?" I shoved Moto in my jacket and kindly informed the man that my husband who was right behind me was "packing heat". I have no clue if the man behind me herd me or not but I made a B line for my car. I had to spend the whole day running errands and Moto just happened to need his eye drops in the time slot I had to run them so he went along. I think I may have to invest in a dog carrier for situations like that in the future. |
The most irritated that I got was a pizza delivery lady who came to the door and both my babies of course was barking. She looked at Natalie and said oh how darling a teacup yorkie, then looked at Charlie and said....what is he? Is he mixed? I politely said no....there is no such thing as a teacup and Charlie is purebred just like Natalie is. She looked at me like I was stupid and left. |
