Ice cream? 1 Attachment(s) Does anyone else's yorkie like ice cream? We don't eat it much (we love it but don't need it) but after getting soft ice cream in cones in the car and letting Abby have the last couple of bites, Abby loves it. We bought a small freezer where we put ice cream when we buy it at the grocery and she learned after just one time that we keep it there. She stands in front of it and cries for it. She is just a little over three pounds so we only give her a small spoon full and she doesn't always eat every drop. She really is spoiled rotten! I've heard that we should not give it to her...does anyone know for sure? Attachment 331179 |
Awwww, she is PRECIOUS:kiss:!!!! How cute that she cries for her ice cweam:laugh: I give our girls a tiny bit of vanilla ice cream, once in a blue moon. They won't touch that Frosty Paws stuff---and I don't blame them, it stinks and if it doesn't MELT, then what the heck is it?!?!  A tiny amount here and there sure won't hurt, but too much could be harmful due to the sugar and fat. |
I'll jump in and admit I've given Kaji a few licks as well. He only gets the vanilla and only a few licks. He likes it and it's a rare treat. :) |
Once in awhile I will let Sammy have a lick off my finger of vanilla icecream. He also likes a little yogurt too. |

Vanilla is the only flavor that Abby has had as well! It is hard to say "no" to her but I don't let her have it very often. :) |

We don't dare keeping it in the freezer (no will power not to eat it every day) but when we go to DQ, or Avila Barn, our girls always get their fair share of the licks. :D |

Your girls are beautiful! Are any of them as small as my Abby? She is just a little over 3 lbs. We are considering getting her a little sister and seeing your three really encourages me! :D |
My stepfather was caught the other day giving Harley some. As long as it's not super full of fat, ie low fat it isn't horrible. I give Harley cream cheese though, it's good to hide worm pills in, etc. |
Many dogs are lactose intolerant which is why it is usually advised not to give ice cream to them- we found out the hard way that one of our poodles is severely lactose intolerant- it involved a white down comforter and wasn't pretty  All the others get a little bit sometimes- if it doesn't affect your dog badly whats the harm in a few licks once and awhile? :p |
I give Gatsby some once in a while he will slowly lick it until it is a small puddle on the spoon. I figure that he has soo many problems with gaining weight if he dosent throw up he will be fine |

i did make a plum Clafoutis for dessert tonight and the dear hubby will want some ice cream on it. The clafoutis (a French dessert, I believe) is very light so a little ice cream will be nice and I imagine Abby will have to have a lick or two. |
ive gotten leary about giving my dog any kind of people food. Ireally regret feeding him any. My vet told me that yorkies and minni schnauzers are bad for getting pancreitis which i think can make them really sick or take them down even.. He said espeacially no hot dogs, bacon, cold cuts or fatty stuff. So ive gotten leary about what i give mine.... |

Ice Cream is my big vice. Annie has already learned to come running when she hears the spoon scrape the bottom of the bowl. That means it has gotten down to the melted last couple of spoon fulls that are just for her. I was not paying attention one time and scraped the last couple of bites into my own mouth and went to take the bowl to the kitchen. She let out the most pitiful little cry! I felt like the wicked witch from the north! I had to go get another spoon and mix it around til it got all melty so she could have it. I won't forget again! Those last two bites are Annie's! :D I don't let her get too much as I know cow milk products are not the best for our pups. But two teaspoons of melted ice cream seem to do just fine for her. No change in poop or anything. Almost sinful to put poop & icecream in the same paragraph! |
Memphis Meltdown Big Bickie Absolutely yum but they are chocolate covered chocolate icecream with bits of chocolate biscuit inside but when thats all eaten inside near the stick is a little bit of vanilla icecream that George is allowed, so he sits a waits and waits with his tail wagging and a few little whines when he's running out of patience, till its his turn for a lick but he keeps checking us both to see who will finish first because he knows the the cat will get one and one for him and he wants to be first:p |

Our Kenzie gets a lick of apple sorbet or frozen yogurt. Shes well known at these ice cream places, they even give us one of those tiny spoons with a little bit of ice cream everytime we go there, which isnt that often. She also cries if youre not giving her what you should :s |
Brusters offers a free Dog Sundae along with a milkbone garnish. Sophie Kate will not eat ice cream but she loves the milkbone. FYI, the Dog Sundae is actually yogurt. |

My boys will get a dixie cup of soft serve vanilla maybe 2-3 x a summer. They LOVE It sooo much. Fletcher gets brain freeze though and he won't stop eating so he whines while he's licking! The first time I heard it I was alarmed but then we realized what it was and now we take it away from him, laugh a bit because he wants it so much and give it back to him in a few seconds when his little mouth thaws. |
