One of the best dogs I've ever had was a rescued pointer. He wasn't as horrible shape as Rosie but he was just a backyard dog that got food and water and that was it. I swear his eyes held more love than any dog I've seen. I have no doubt he would have died for me. Bless you for taking this girl. She has so much love to give. Don't be surprised if you can't give her up when the time comes. I had planned on just fostering my Bandit. I actually went as far as to pack up his stuff and drive to his "forever home" but I couldn't leave him. He was with me till he took his last breath. He had cancer and we had to have him put down at 12 years old. I held him as he crossed over the bridge. I am sitting here at work crying right now - you will be blessed by Rosie far more than you know.

Just a little bit of advice: I would have those people sign a paper stating they are surrendering her to you. I have a friend who took a dog under similar conditions and those people now want the dog back!!! She was just telling me about it this morning...and it hit me that this could happen to you.

Eyes are tearing up again. I can't tell you how happy I am that Rosie will be with you, very soon. It's just sick what they've done to her :mad:. I really don't have words for it.

I would love to hear updates on this sweet girl, and can't wait until she is with you. Rosie looks like a kiddo who you can just fall in love with, just mellow and sweet.

I hope you've changed her name to Rosie, I wouldn't want anything for that dog that those creeps gave her. I can't believe that short bungee she was on! And why would that b**** want you to wait until 4:30 to get her? To say good bye to Rosie? As if she cared? It wouldn't surprise me if Rosie doesn't turn out to be a perfect dog and you keep her. I feel so bad for her! And outraged at her condition.

Your neighbors are true low-lifes and I hope you keep an eye out for the dog they just got and if it turns up outside, maybe it will "disappear."

I am so happy you are getting him out of that horrid situation. He is so skinny. I can't wait to see how he flourishes under your TLC. I feel bad for their new dog too as it will only be a matter of time before that one loses favor and is outside. What is wrong with people.

I too cannot understand why she wants u to wait till she gets home. why would she care???? hope not to ask for money for her, since they said they wanted to sell her....

Ppl like this make me sick, I like everyone else, am sitting here in tears for that precious baby....and there getting another one? I am wodering as the new one gets older and not a puppy anymore, will it too, be tied up with a bungee cord?

I would get them to sign off on her, so she is yours, then I would take her to humane society or animal control, to show them what they have one to her, and tell them they are getting a new puppy...

That is sick! That poor, poor baby! She definitely looks like a coon hound to me. She is really pretty even in that condition. Why in the world did they get another dog if they didn't have the love for This one?? Thank goodness you got her I'm glad some of us still have hearts!

i agree. I hope you can get them to sign something stating that once they release her to you that she becomes your property and they have no rights to her anymore.

Oh, I am so happy for Rosie!!! Praise God she has you now. Let us know how she is doing. I am so sick that she could have been so malnourished. I will keep you all in our prayers while she recovers from such cruelty!!!

Bless your hearts! I've just read this whole thread. Something tells me Rosie is going to have a rosie future thanks to you and your husband.:) I look forward to following her story. It's wrenching, to say the least. She has such beautiful, soulful eyes.

I just had to log back in b/c I can not stop thinking about this situation. In your original post you mentioned they just got a puppy... I think that you should still turn these people in again even if nothing was done last time! Somebody needs to rescue that puppy too. Anyone who will allow a pet to be in the type of condition that is shown in the photos you took has no business having any other animals. Can't the SPCA help??? If you get the stating that they turned Rosie over to you, then take that and the photos you have of Rosie and turn them in. I don't know... I can't really think but I fear for that little one who is still going to be relying on them for his/her life. :cry:

Rosie is so lucky you found her and have taken her in. Rosie looks like a sweet dog, how could anyone put her through this torture. Lets us know how the vet visit goes.

Another update..
 

She is now home.:).. She has been with us since about 430, the woman called and told me that the dog was dirty and was smelly so they brought her in to give her a bath and she wouldnt get in the tub and she was afraid of what she might do so she didnt try agian. :rolleyes: I told her not to bother that I would be right over to get her and worry about bathing her once I get her settled. I had all I could do to keep her from running straight to my house. lol.. she was pulling me so hard I was stepping out of my shoes, so she will need some work on that..lol.. anyways, I had all my other animals put away so when she came in it wasnt stressful and she sniffed around a bit and pretty much acted like it was her house..;) I had gotten a big kennel and after awhile introduced her to it, she went right in with out hesitation, laid down as if she as lived here all along. I gave her another small meal and started to introduce (brought them to her kennel) my other animals to her slowly. My little dogs, really didnt care much.. Tucker barked some, Lexee just kept her distance. My sheltie likes everyone and just wagged his tail, but my beagle isnt so happy right now. She has been barkiing nonstop, but her tail has been wagging so Im getting mixed singles, the cats hissed and ran but they do that with every new animal we have brought home. I know it will be awhile before we all happily coexsist. I will proceed very slowly so there are no mishaps..Once my hubby got home he helped me give her a bath. I led her into the bathroom shut the door behind me, lifted her up into the tub.. she didnt move.. my hubby sat on the toilet by her head and while I washed her she laid her head on his lap the whole time. So now she is nice and clean with a full tummy and a warm bed and at the moment is resting peacefully. :animal36

I will continue to update as much as possible, I will add more pics tomorrow of her nice and clean!

Sounds like you are doing a good thing, but if it doesn't work out there are places that can take care of the dog. Where I live we have a no-kill shelter and people "dump" dogs from all over there. They take good care of the dog, and if they can't find a foster home the dog still gets excellent car in the shelter.

My concern is that your neighbors new dog will wind up getting the same treatment, and they probably should have been turned in. While you are an angel for taking this dog in, it may not be the first.

I hate to be pessimistic, but my neighbor had several dogs, one at a time. All got treated poorly, and some of them ran away never to be found again.

Her previous owners should be tied to a dog house with a small bungie cord and left to starve in the cold.

dont know how anyone could treat an animal like that! i wish rosie luck at the vet and hope anything is ok let us all know! she must be so happy and wondering whats happend how things could be so different!

Awww, she seems to have such a great disposition! Have you decided on a name yet? A friend of mine rescued that sort of hound--and they are now the funniest little couple!

I'm so happy to hear Rosie is getting all settled in and is adjusting so well. She sounds like a sweetheart. :) Please give her some extra huggins for me!

Last night went extremely well considering she hasnt ever been in a kennel or a house for that matter. :rolleyes: She never made a fuss at all and when I got up this morning to take turns letting the dogs out she didnt want to come out of her kennel. lol.. so I gave her some more time and when she whined I let her out. She doesnt like it outside very long before she is whining at the door to come back in. ( we have a fenced in yard off our back door). Its alittle chaotic around here right now but Im sure in a few days it will settle down. At this moment Im putting all of the dogs and cats away so I can give her time to roam the house, check out her new surrondings etc. She loves it. :) She likes the garbage can too..;). My beagle is still going nuts at times and barks like a mad woman but she is waggin her tail at the same time. Anyways, here some new pics that I took this morning of her, one is with my son, (red shirt) and the other one is with the son of who I got her from. They love that she is in the house and no longer barks to keep them up..:rolleyes: She still has that orange collar but we will get her a new one as well as a harness this weekend. The girl needs to learn to walk on a lead...:p
