6 days!!! My baby Rylie comes home in 6 days! I'm so excited and I can't wait. I think I have all the necessary initial supplies. Food, treats, bowls, kennel, carrier, nutrical, toothbrush, toothpaste, Madan brush/combs, Espree shampoo/conditioner, baby gates, blankets, kong (and mini kong squeaky tennis balls for when she's a bit older), teething toy (it goes in the freezer!), 3 nylon bones (a nubbed blue dental one, a clear flexi one, and a flavored one), puppy pads, potty patch, coat and booties (for our snowy buffalo winters), Nature's Miracle spray, etc. She'll come home with tags and a harness. I plan to apply for health insurance for her this week. Is there anything that I'm missing that you can think of? I want to be prepared! <---paranoid mama I cannot wait until the 11th! The anticipation is going to kill me. :) |
congrats on ur new puppy |
So excited for you! I get my lil Ziva in a month and the wait is killing me!!! |
You sound better prepared than I was and I thought I was overboard. Only thing I would suggest is that you get down on the floor and have a look for anything little puppy eyes will want to chew on or poop on. Then sleep non-stop between now and then because a new puppy is going to wear you out! I swear the bags under my eyes have their own bags now. But seriously, I hope you will have as great an experience with your new baby as I'm having with mine -- potty training accidents and all! |
Congratulations! Sounds like you're perfectly prepared ;) Can't wait to see pictures. Introduce her slowly to the winter cold, if you can. Make sure every time out in it is fun. |
I know the wait is killing you....that's exactly how I felt waiting for the time to be able to go get my Sophie. You are definitely prepared...a lot more than I was...lol. Can't wait to see pictures! |
Congratulations on your new baby! Beth and Taylor |
fon: Thank you! SweetZiva: LOL the anticipation will only get worse, trust me! I was so excited before this and less than a week is sooooo close! Ziva is a very cute name by the way. <3 boopster: Oh! Good point. I will have to do that this weekend (I have to clean the house anyway). I totally forgot about puppy proofing even though it was in my YT for Dummies book  I'll be sure to reread some key chapters before she comes home. Oh! I should also review my vaccine schedule and potty schedule pdf that I found here on YT (very useful stuff). I hope my experience goes well too! :) alaskayorkie: I will be sure to have pictures (well more than the little thumbnail I have now from her KS home). Trust me, I'm sure I'll have picture overload once she's home! I don't plan on having her outside the house AT ALL until she has all her shots (except to the vet to get her health check right after she comes home and for insurance purposes). That's why we have the potty patch so she doesn't have to freeze her tail off outside all the time :p. elemtchr99: That is reassuring to know :) I will post pictures ASAP after she comes home! |

CONGRATS!!!! Seems like just yesterday, for me. i could not sleep the night before. I picked up my Riley July 23rd. Two things I got which were really helpful were a Snuggle Puppy for him to sleep with..... it has a battery operated heart.... which beats... and a diaper genie for the potty pads. ENJOY!! :) |
Oh wow...have very exciting. Congrats! I know the waiting is AWFUL! Will be watching for lots of pictures and watching that little one grow up. |

I didn't see a bed in all this. Congrats and it's a lovely name too, can't wait till you post pics |
OMG you sound very prepared - but really all you need is a couple of bowls for food and water and somewhere for her to sleep and a couple of pads to pee and poop. Everything else you willsee what you need with time. I am so excited for you just reading this. I love that feeling. |
You sound well prepared!:D There is just one thing you forgot!;) A shovel in case you get three feet of snow!:D |
I'm excited right along with you. Ohhhh, a puppy around the house! I miss those days. I'm also looking forward to more pics of Rylie. Congratulations, mom! |

Oh! That sounds like a great toy/cuddle buddy. Maybe I'll pick one up. For now, I sent blankets that 1. smelled like me and our house and 2. so that they could pick up the scent of her mom and the litter. I figured that might ease her transition and anxiety some! A diaper genie is a great idea that I never thought of for potty pads, very creative. :) |

This community has been so great. There is so much wonderful information here and wonderful people. Seriously, YT changed my whole outlook on things and made me a better mama-in-training than I ever could have been. I've learned so many great things here. I can't even begin to count them! I'm so glad I ended up here in my bumbling initial internet searches. I love you YT! |

Oooooh that should be the best! Seeing her in person might only heighten your excitement though :D No problem. I just thought it was a very nice (and original) name. There are quite a few hanging around here on YT with some great names... that I did my best not to steal! Though I know now that there are other Rylie's. To be fair though, I stumbled on that one in a baby name search and thought it was darling. Then we had a poll and Rylie was not the winner... However, my mom and I decided it was my dog and we didn't care and named her Rylie anyway :p Shows how well democracy works in our domain  |

It is a great feeling... I have a feeling I'll be wanting another little baby in the future. These little love muffins are pretty addictive from what I can tell from this site, but that wouldn't be for a very long time (e.g. many years). I want to raise her right and not take on too much. In addition, I would probably wait until my Suki passes on... poor kitty is going to have a heart attack if she has more than one sibling I think :p Queen of the house is going to need to learn to share mommy! |

My mom is picking my girl up, so I'm in your boat for not being able to pick her up myself! (which means a longer wait to see my baby, ugh :p). No worries, I'm sure it will be...agonizingly slow! Ha! :D What is your pup's name? :) |

i have school that day and my boy can only be picked up in the morning. since it's my boyfriend's dayoff that day, he'll be picking him up for me. :D we're naming him buchi. haha. i know it sounds weird. its a chinese food that is so little, round and chunky. lol 'cas he's so fluffy and he reminded me of that. :D but even though with all the excitement and all, i am ashamed of saying that i am still not ready with his stuff. i'll be buying his bed right when i get him so he can be there when i choose it. any advice on what the most important ones to get before he comes home? :) |

Well you have most of my list in my original post. If I was to cut it down though I'd say the food, water/food bowls, kennel, and piddle pads are the most important things. The rest will come with need. Might I also suggest you don't take him with you to get the bed? If he doesn't have all his shots he could pick up something nasty at the pet store where other dogs have been. You really need to be careful even taking them to the vet if dogs with certain conditions have been there prior to. :( I plan to hold my baby at her initial vet appointment when she gets home and my mom won't be letting her walk in the airport. Too many strange things she could catch and I don't want her getting ill. They shouldn't even go outside for walks in places where other dogs may have been (and especially in poop areas as they could catch parvo). If it were me I'd wait to take him out, but that's just my opinion. If you want him to pick out something special with you, my suggestion would be to wait until he's older and fully vaccinated and then have him pick out a favorite toy or type of treat or something like that. Get the early essentials yourself. |
I agree. The day you bring him home will be very stressful, as it is, for him. Just take him home. Buy his things early and have them ready for him. They can't take too much stress. They are very little. So, don't drag him around. Just get him to his new home so he can rest and eat and play - the things that puppies do. Try to make his first week at home with you a quiet and restful time. The fun trips can come later. |
