VERY UPSET about coworker's daughter's maltipoo...HELP A coworker just came up and started looking up stuff about puppy's normal temperatures. Having worked for a vet i offered that it's usually 101-102 or so if it goes over 103 it's not good. I asked what's up. She finally mentioned after i notice her search trembling and shaking in google that the pup was not fed all day long since they ran out of food and that it's shaking and inactive. i told her it's prob. hypoglycemia and that first i'd get some syrup, karo if yuo have it or maple if you only have that and put an inch on a finger and let it lick it off. then i promptly would rush to the vet because this stuff can take em' down fast and they can die from it. she told her daughter all i'd said and mentioned wetting the food to try to get it to eat something and possibly syringing water to it. i told her if the gums are white it really should be going to the vet and hurry. hope they listen but she keeps wanting to try things first....i'm so upset right now. why do these people keep getting dogs that they can't feed or care for :( :thumbdown:mad::mad: |
bc google is free and vets are not. poor dog. :( |
I'm sorry. I can totally relate to the frustration of trying to educate and feeling like everything you are saying is going in one ear and right out the other. It hurts to think that most people don't think of a dog as a family member, to them it's just a dog :( |
Omg !!! Poor baby !!! I hope it makes it !! they should rehome that poor thing, you're right 110 % , Why , do people do this . If u can't feel a pet you should really stop getting them. How do they pay for it in the first place ?? Please made a collection at work and feel the poor thing. I'm glad I don't know them , I would not be nice at all !!! Hope u get good news on that poor dog. bark@later !!!! manina, miley:aimeeyorkmax:aimeeyork |
They ran out of food??? really....really... there.are.no.words. |
well the maple syrup helped i guess now it's up following her around. i suggested if it won't eat the kibble trying boiled turkey or chicken even ground beef or rice, mashed potatoes anything you have to get something in it's tummy that's bland. the owner fed it bread and i thought about peanut butter. that has protein and a little sugar kick. so i mentioned peanut butter but not very much just a lick or two. but still strongly suggested going to the vet if it seems at all lethargic or throws up anymore...pray that the little one is going to be alright since it's obvious no vet is in store tonight.. :( |
btw the mother whom i work with also mentioned her dog's fav. treat is green grapes :eek: |
I'd starve and sell a kidney before I let Teegy go without food and water |
For real? I mean "FOR REAL?!" Is it that ran out of food and forgot or that they can't afford it? I mean if worse comes to worse you can get a small bag of PetPride at Kroger for like 3 bucks! That is just irresponsible pet ownership! Poor baby! Kudos to you for giving her some great advice though! You probably just saved the pup's life! |
God people like that make me SICK. I bet THEY didnt go without food yesterday!! Even if you couldnt afford to get anymore dog food you would atleast use common sense and give it some people food, Im usually against giving dogs people food but if my dog was so hungry it was throwing up and shaking I would atleast TRY. These people shouldnt be allowed dogs if they cant even afford or be bothered to give them the basic care that they need. You gave really good advice lets just hope they take it! :( |

This entire situation just screams irresponsible breeding, irresponsible pet ownership and who suffers? That poor puppy who did not ask to be brought into this world. If the lack of food and hypoglycemia doesn't kill this poor puppy the grape sure will do the trick. What a total moron! |
i know it! hopefully it made it through the night without the vet. i'm hoping the maple syrup and some bread and peanut butter was enough to boost sugars and proteins and keep him alive. poor baby. trash is as trash does. |

They ran out of food. Ok, then they should go to the store and buy more!!!!!!!! And they should not be feeding the dog grapes. Grapes and raisins are not good for dogs. My heart goes out to this poor pup! |
They ran out of food? Seriously? Give the dog a freaking hot dog or some meat!! Seriously, what is wrong with people? I am so tired of hearing about people get dogs and then not caring for them. Both my dogs came from neglect situations and I hate to think of what they had to endure before they came to live with me. Ugh. At least you're there offering advice. Good for you for speaking up! |
This really is one of those slap situations where you want to slap some sense into the person too dumb to feed a BABY dog. A BABY for pete's sake. Scares me to think people like this could have a child. |
How totally sad for the dog. Some people can be so stupid and insensitive. One thing of note, we have a diabetic black lab and the best thing to do for a dog that is suffering from low blood sugar is corn syrup rubbed on the gums. It is most quickly absorbed into the dog's system that way instead of having to go through the digestive path. We have seen our lab come around in a matter of minutes with this technique. |

most Friday morning my mom feeds her pugs two hot dogs because almost without fail she forgets to buy dog food on Thursday (i think she forgets what day it is) I kinda thought she was the only person in the world who thought about substituting hotdogs as a breakfast snack. (by the way im seeing about having her dog food delivered on Thursday afternoon) |
If you run out of food wouldn't it be common sense to make it rice and chicken? Or at least give it some PB and apples?? They're obviously not opposed to giving it human food if they're feeding GRAPES:eek:. This is ridiculous. Any chance they'd surrender it to you? |
There are 24 hr grocery stores they can go too  |
what the h ll is wrong with these idiots, I would go without food before my chester boy, would , he comes before me, they depend on us to take care of them, cant take care of them give it to someone who will and please hope they do not get another dog |
There are just too many really upsetting and sad posts on here today! What's going on? Would this person forget to feed their baby? There elderly mother? Maybe so! I wish there was somewhere to go where you could report abuse of animals before it got to bad! People just don't think about what a dog or cat can or cant have. I never knew that grapes were bad for dogs until I got RU, then I researched everything I could about little ones! I hope this little one makes out ok! So sad! |
Saying a prayer for that sweet baby hope he makes it through the night!! Poor thing, breaks my heart. |
Any news on the Maltipoo? Hope the little one made it and the "people" got some food for the poor thing! I couldn't get a post made yesterday as my words were not coming out constructive at all. Now that I can type without using prohibited words, I am wondering about the baby. My dachshund lived to be 17 1/2 yrs old. During the first 10 yrs, she had a diet of Alpo, Pedigree, Iams and Science Diet (and others). I thought I had moved up with the last two. I never even realized all of the dog foods available outside the grocery store & Walmart! But she lived a very long, healthy life, always a shiny coat and great teeth. I use the quality foods now with my yorkies but this kid can easily get by with some discount food -- much better than putting the poor thing through hypoglycemia, starvation, or death. You can feed so cheaply with these foods and there are loads of coupons online too. Maybe their mom could buy a large bag of kibble and donate it to the pup to get them going -- along with a sternly worded lecture about pet responsibility. If this happens again, I would not hesitate to call the authorities. ASPCA, Humane Society, anyone who would make a visit and put a scare into them at the least and take the dog from them at the best. |
Tell them to give the dog chicken and rice's until they get dogfood, many stores are open 24/7 so its not hard to get one little bag of dogfood!!! These people do propably don't care about theyr dog if they dont even go to the vet or buy dog food. Chicken and rice is my advise, until they get dogfood! and to not give her grapes. |
Checking back to see it any word on the little one yet?? |
:thumbdown i hate this..... |
So sad, poor baby.....if things were that bad here, my lil Shay and Harley would be fed first, they depend on you, just like your skin babies...you call family or friends, ask for help...............NEVER...EVER not feed them,,IT IS NOT AN OPTION... this is upsetting... |
