What was your first impression of your dog? 4 Attachment(s) Love at first sight.... or did you have a moment of 'What did I DO?!?!" I remember going to get Jackson. It was just from a BYB..... some chicks dog had puppies in Baltimore City. My dad drove with me because he didn't want me driving into Baltimore by myself. So I go into her house, knock on her door, she welcomes us in and I saw 2 little male puppies she was carrying in her arms. They honestly both looked exactly the same. And then... this other chick comes in the house to pick a puppy too! Argh. It was sooo awkward because I'm like holding one puppy and am like "uh, ya wanna trade?" hahah. Like I didn't know how to act or what to do since there was 2 of us there choosing between the final two puppies. So basically Jackson was "puppy #1" and the other was "puppy #3". So I swapped puppy #3 for puppy #1 and then I did kind of know. I had that feeling that he was mine. He felt comforted in my arms, whereas the other was like scared to death. So anyways, after I make my decision, the 'breeder' goes on to tell me that "puppy #1 gets car sick! He's gotten sick both times to the vet". I was like, oh GREAT. Sure enough, we get him in the car and he puked all over me, LOL. I thought I had picked the wrong dog for sure. He was sooo shy, he seemed scared, but once we got home... I knew I had made the right decision. He settled right in, he LOVED my dads dog, Lily and was really comforted by another dog being there. So basically after that car ride home, I was 100% sure I loved him already! Although I did have another moment of 'what did I do?!?!" when he SCREAMED/cried/barked in the car for the first 3 weeks I had him. This was the first few minutes we were home: Attachment 330322 Attachment 330323 Attachment 330324 Attachment 330325 |
I knew when I got both mine that they were the ones! Charlie from the moment I held him I knew he was totally mine and the perfect puppy. He became totally mine and no one else's in the house. When I first saw Natalie, I thought OH how adorable...I've got to have her and I hope she's mine. she was this little 5 lb furbaby (she was 10 months old) with spunk. I am so lucky to have them! They are my pride and joy!!! |
It was LOVE:2hearts2: at first sight for me. Fancy was the last puppy left from the litter - someone had came the day before and choose her sister. So there was no choice when I came. I picked her up and she licked my face and gave me lots and lots of love. The breeder said she didn't show any affection to the other people yesterday when they came to choose between the last two and that is why they decided to go with the other girl. So I like to think Fancy choose me! Fancy threw up on the way home too! She out grew it though, I kept taking her with me in the car (with lots of baby blankets) and now she goes everywhere without getting sick. She had me wrapped around her paw from the first kiss!:hearts-xx |
Loved your story!!! And Jackson is a cutie. I also think you made the right choice :) |
My reaction was love at first sight. I actually found Sophie on the internet, and her little face in the picture had me hooked. I had searched and searched until I found the one that just "clicked". |
We went to see Harley when he was two weeks old. I knew from the start this was going to be great. If you ask anyone around me when I got Harley they probably thought I was acting like I was pregnant, not Harley's mom... lol I was sooo excited. and worried sick when I found out Jazz had a hard time delivering (but all ended good). I didn't know which I would get a boy or a girl, because there were 4 puppies and I was 3rd down the line on the waiting list. Matt really wanted a boy, So when Shauna called me and said I got second pick (she wouldn't let me have the super tiny boy). I got Harley. I got to hold him and his mom when he was two weeks old. It was sooo awesome, and the breeder basically had to peel him out of my arms to let him go nurse with his momma. The day we took him home, he cuddled in my arms, and because he knew us well already, was calm and loved us, and he was so cute in his play pen. But he really stole my heart from the first moment I held him. He was the size of a hamster, and just fell asleep in the palm of my hand. (BTW we did not take him home when he was that small, he came home at 9 weeks, just had permission to visit almost every week until he came home). |
First of all, I love the photos and videos of Jackson! I too, got Roxie from a BYB, didnt know any better. Her picture was posted online, and she was already about a year old, had had a litter of puppies via c-section, and then the vet made them spay her. They no longer had use for her, long story short, when I say her gorgeous face I was in love. I called them and they were at the beach, and we made plans to meet the next day, and when I first saw her, I just wanted to love her and kiss her, I knew we would be together forever. I think those people took good care of her, except for the BYB part, and breeding her so young, anyways it was def. love at first sight for me!! |
I loved Louis from the moment I first held him. He was so tiny and sweet!:) Thank you for sharing your video of Jackson. Who would have thought that he would have grown up to know so many tricks?:) You too make a great pair! How did you pick his name? What is his full name? |
When I went to look at Lexi I had no intention on purchasing her. She was an older puppy, and I was kind of hoping for one a little younger, plus I wanted to purchase from a breeder, see the parents, ect. But as soon as I saw Princess (her original name) I fell in love instantly. I brought my boyfriend for support so I didn't make an impulse purchase but I brought her home that night. Never regretted it, not once. Thanks for sharing your story. From your posts Jackson actually reminds me of Lexi, it is too bad we didn't live closer as I think they'd make a great pair. ;) |
Honestly, I was shocked that the breeder wasn't as reputable as I originally thought. First thought was get back in the car and drive far away. But I had my 6 year old daughter with me who and I felt compelled not to leave without the puppy I promised her. Troy was adorable and still is! Little Guy is full of fun and loves us! |
I just love this...I found Hailey now known as Bella on-line. I had also found another that was in Nashville TN. Emailed both owners and only one emailed me back. We went on vacation, I stayed in contact with the owner of "Hailey" and when I got home I went to see her and she greeted with so many kisses and love. I have sucker written all over me. I fell for her and brought her home. She was 16 months old and got sick all the way home in her crate. I felt so bad for her. But she's all mine. For the past couple of weeks I've realized how much I love her. I'm so glad I have her. |
It was definitely LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! Gizzy was so curious, his eyes sparkled and those ears ~ definitely fell in love with those ears! He was so gentle and smart. An amazing being full of life, humor, compassion and love. He was the love of my life for 14 wonderful years. No aggression or usual 'dog' issues and I truly believe that he was not a 'dog', just a beautiful being that God gifted me. We miss him terribly ~ one can only hope to get that blessed again.:cry2: |
from the moment i saw her picture, it was love at first sight! when Opi came home, i couldn't let go of her. still every morning when she wakes up and every day when i come home from work it is love at first sight again! :) |
Well 10 years ago I was a "big dog" fan. My wife an I lived in an apartment and I said that we should wait until we got a house because I felt bad for the dog not having a yard to play in. She wanted a "little dog". One day she came and picked me up from work. I should have known something was up because she was on the passenger side waiting for me. I got in the car and halfway home I could see something moving out of the corner of my eye. She was wearing a black dress and had her left arm over her chest towards the door. I said "Well hon, unless you have learned how to make your pecs move up and down, I suspect you got that da**ed dog didn't you? Because normally your bust doesn't move on its own" She then held him out and said "But isn't he cute!" I didn't tell her, but it was that moment that my heart melted....10 years later....he's still my baby boy.....along with 4 other brothers and sisters (all Yorkies). What happened to that big dog thing? Well, you can have more little ones and they still weigh less! |

I had contacted a breeder and was approved for a pup. Well then I got quite ill and had to cancel the pup, it's not fair to a little fuzzbucket that requires my undivided attention in the first few weeks together. Well a few months later, my friends Jen and Lisa went on vacation and I had their two girls (Yorkies) for the week. They came and picked them up on the Friday and boy did I miss them. Next morning I'm in the kitchen and the door goes and it's Jen and Lisa "trick or treat, what do you want first" I said my treat of course. Jen turned around the bundle of something she had against her chest and there was Teegy. Well I lost my mind and burst into tears. I was at this point back to the peak of health and on 3 weeks vacation at home. Jen had contacted a breeder checked out the facilities, met the parents and done all the research. All I had to do was pay them back. I was in love immediately, I couldn't believe it that I finally had my Teegy, he smelled of cedar and his little hairy paws caused him to skid all over the wooden floor as he tried to get his barings. I phoned my dad and mum and told them, I posted his pic on facebook so all my friends could see him and I called my friend Lane and asked if I was still invited to dinner because I would have to bring my new dog, the reply to this was absolutely. He's my love, he's my annoying little pest, he's my snuggle monster and he won't leave me alone to study or do my homework when I'm taking courses. But I can't imagine life without him any more |
When I went to see Cali, I had not had a yorkie in 8 years. My husband and dtr wanted a pom. I had recently been forced to take early retirement so I decided it was time for a yorkie again. My husband drove me 2 hours to go look at her. She was a BYB and I later found out not a great one. Cali was the only one available as her 2 litter mates were taken. SHe was 6 weeks old and so tiny and cute. I fell in love the second I held her. I put a deposit on her and got her a few weeks later. She was a very easy puppy and still is an easy going girl. Then I decided heck I want to have 2 yorkies and started looking for another one. I decided to get one a little older. SInce Cali had such major health problems the first 8 months I decided I wanted one from a show breeder. I really had a certain look in mind. It took 6 months, but Kim (Yorkiepassion) RIP told me to call Stardust Yorkies. So I called Susan and talked for 45 minutes. After talking for awhile she said she had this little girl who was too small to breed or show and I could come look at her. So on a cold January evening I called my sister up and she said let's go. My DH said here take this money with you just in case. I wasn't going to but took it with. When she brought Pixie up I was in love. She was exactly what I was looking for. So Pixie went home with me that night almost 4 years ago. Then a year later, Susan called and said she had a little 6 month old that was just like Pixie and would make me an offer I couldn't refuse. So I called DH at work and he said what are you waiting for go get her. I went a couple days later and when I took her out of the crate she had this cute christmas bow in and was the cutest little thing. So Dixie went home with me. Sadly, 5 weeks later she was diagnosed with congenital kidney failure and nothing could save her. Susan and I cried together and I knew she would have never sold her if she had known. So a month later Susan called me to see how we were doing and said when I was ready she had a little 4 month old male that was another Pixie. I didn't want a male so she said she had his sister but she was going to be bigger. I told her I didn't care about size so we went to see her. Roxie came home with us that day. She just turned 3. Then I took in Nikki when his owner had a stroke. I am done for awhile. |
Bella Rose, Our First Dog, EVER! My husband and I WERE NOT "dog people". In fact, we held dog people in disdain and didn't understand their need to take their dogs everywhere. Well, I guess God has a sense of humor. Bella entered our lives and now WE ARE dog people. It all began with a simple phone call from some dear friends. They had acquired Bella through a family tragedy. She had been living with them for about 8 weeks. The family was moving in to a new home and had many errands to do. They wondered if we would "puppysit" for about 6 hours. Sure, we said, since she was only 1.8 lbs. How difficult could it be? Besides we didn't like dogs and we were doing them a favor. Well, 2 years later, her we are, totally in love with our little yorkie. She had us wrapped around her little paw in the first 10 minutes. We spent the entire 6 hours playing with her, cuddling, and watching her every move. Our friends had already decided they needed to rehome her and we would be just perfect. (She was just too small because they had two toddlers at home) We laugh now as we put on her sweater, take her everywhere with us, brag about her like she's a human child, buy her special presents, spend $$$$$ in petsmart on toys and treats. She is now the center of our daily life and we rejoice in the happiness she brings to us. It was defnitely love at first meeting. She entered our lives and we learned about a new kind of love . . . dog and family. It's wonderful. We now get it. We understand. We celebrate. She is OUR dog and we love her very much!:aimeeyork:thumbup::):) |

With Maddie, I went to the apartment where her "breeder" lived. There were Yorkies running all around the living room, a litter of 6! I picked up a few but they were so wiggly I could barely hold on. Maddie came and sat at my feet and I picked her up. There was something about her that just felt right. She laid into me and was totally relaxed. I knew that was Maddie. It wasn't until the next morning, around 2 a.m. the, "What have I done?" sank in. ;) |

I wanted a Pug or a Boston Terrier.Max just seemed too small to me when I first got him(only 2 lbs.)There were times during the potty training, that I almost wished I never got a dog!!!!But now,he is potty trained and doing great!!He's my buddy,he goes almost everywhere with me.Definetly worth the effort!!I glad I got him!! |
1 Attachment(s) We had our yorkie Baby for 16 years and when she passed our hearts were broken. We waited about two months and decided it was time to search for another little female yorkie to love. We were contacted by a reputable YT member/ breeder who knew we were looking for another female. We first saw our little girl when she was two weeks old, fell head over heels in love:love:, thought she was the cutest little puppy we had ever seen and just knew she was the one!. We named our soft little bundle of fur Sophie and her name fits her so well. She mended our broken hearts and fills our lives with joy every single day. We can't imagine life without her. Here's her photo at about 9 weeks old. |
Well, it was love at second sight for me! The puppy we originally picked out from the litter was failing to grow and thrive and ended up with liver shunt and died. We had had her picture for weeks and we were so sad. BUT, even the second time we visited our puppy - I noticed my Lucy. She was so bouncy and curious and friendly while the pup we were there to visit (the one that was sick and we didn't know it yet) was so quiet and just crawled up in Matthew's hands and fell asleep. So he was in love with her. I agreed to pick her but all the while kept remembering Lucy's bouncy playfulness and thinking about how she might be a better fit for my active Ringo. When the breeder sadly told me the first puppy died; she offered us Lucy and, of course, we accepted. I still feel sad for the little puppy's short little life; but Lucy has fit into our family so well. She entices Ringo to play with her - even when he's tired and cranky; she just hounds him until he does what she wants. She was so tiny when I picked her up; smaller than what I expected; I was almost afraid she was too fragile. She slept on my bed from Day 1. She turned out to have some health issues of her own; but I think all that taking care of her when she was a puppy - only brought us closer together. I never thought I could be as close to any dog as I was my very first dog - Casper, my maltese. But, it turns out that I can. |
1 Attachment(s) All of mine have been love at first sight, but my most recent was definately not planned to be. I had recently lost my first son, and was trying to cope with no avail. I thought about rescue or even fostering as we knew we had the love for another, but just couldn't move on. I have a great friend and member of YHR who told me that things would happen in their own time, and I would know when it was right. A little over a week later,I was driving down a major 4 lane road and saw a yorkie in the middle of the road. I looked in my rearview and saw him limp. That was it, I slammed on brakes and sent my best friend out of the car to go and save the yorkie. When the little boy ran to her, he had an uncanny resembalance to Fletcher, my first son. I called my friend and told her that I had found a yorkie and he might need to be placed in rescue, but maybe I was supposed to foster him. She said okay and met me at the vet the next day. At that time, I knew he was not going to be a foster, he had already found his home if we didn't find his owners. Buddy Jo has added so much to our family and all of my friends and family are convinced that Fletcher lead him to us. Attachment 330370 |
It was definitely love at first sight with Tinkerbell. She was the last puppy and only girl from a litter of 5. All of her brothers had been sold and she was almost 14 weeks old when I went to see her. I was actaully looking for a little larger puppy, but as soon as I saw Tink I knew she was coming home with me. I never realized a dog could steal my heart so fast and so completely, but Tink sure has. :) |
I have to give my mom credit for choosing her. In fact, thinking back, it was my mom that chose Muffin!:D Oh, my goodness! I'd nearly forgotten. Anyway, so I picked Kacee up from the playpen full of puppies and we sat down for awhile. She was so little and she seemed comfortable with me, too. I've told this before, but while we were sitting there talking, she told me to look at Kacee. I looked down at her and those cute, bright little eyes were watching me so intently and it was so cute! So, yes, it was love at first sight for both of us. It was so hard to have to leave her there. She was too young to come home with me. Now, we're inseparable. We are almost always together.:) |

Well, the moment I saw Kaji in person I couldn't wait to hold him. He had a 5 hour flight from Missouri to Los Angeles and I couldn't wait to get him out of his kennel. I was told he was a 6 lb boy and that day was his birthday. I thought great! We'll celebrate and I won't have one of those tiny yorkies (I really didn't want a tiny one). So I get there, sign for him, and rush outside. He was so far in the corner, as far away from me as he possibly could be. He looked so small, I thought he was really only 3 lbs! He was so incredibly terrified and he already acted like he hated me. He wouldn't let me touch him, he wouldn't take my chicken. Really, I was a bit heartbroken. 20 mins later, he was eating chicken and finally let me hold him. We sat on that airport bench for a while before I put him back in his kennel and headed home. I drove sooo slow hoping not to scare him any further. We got home, I gave him a bath, and I didn't put him down for the rest of the day. By the time we went to bed, he knew I was his mommy and I knew he was my baby. You should have seen how happy he was when I went to get him from his ex-pen the next morning. Now, he and I are inseparable. So much for hating me on our first meeting. That didn't last! |

Gracie picked me. I sat on the floor and the only quiet shy puppy came and got and my lap and stayed there, while her siblings ran off to rough house with each other...same thing happened the second time I visited. She looked at me with eyes of love and I fell in love. I thought how nice, a little quiet puppy to go with my quiet laid back life... hahahahahahaa..as soon as she got home away from her domineering siblings she came into her own. Demanding little thing always on the go! Kendra |
