Please Read And Answer!!!!!!!!!! What do you guys like better....stainless steel dog bowls with non skid bottom OR heavy colorful plastic. ALL OPINIONS AND ANSWERS DESIRED!!!!! |
I have the stainless bowls. They are heavier and can't tip over also I find that they are more sanitary than the plastic. |
I prefer the Stainless steel w/non skid bottom ... less bacteria build up. the plastic ones can accumulate bacteria after a while and you will have to replace it every so often. |
hmmmmmmmmm Hard question, we have so many bowls around here. I really like them all. Princess likes her glass bowl the most. I think the plastic ones are so cute. Mandy(our Rottie) has stainless steel bowls, because she picks them up and takes them outside. Poncho, (our Chihuahua) he could care less what bowl I put down, as long as there's food in it for him. LOL :D Sorry, I guess I didn't answer your question. |
Only stainless steel for water BUT Brutus won't eat his food off of anything but his Pfaltzgraff china dish! :animal36 |
I prefer,,, ceramic painted / with decorative writing on it..or monogramed.. before that he had a heavy plastic one. |
We use both!!!! I buy new ones all the time just because they are soooo flippin cute!!!! But mostly have the heavy bowls that aren't plastic or stainless. I think they are porcelin or something like that!!!! |

Ceramic!!! That was the word I was looking for!!!! Thats what I prefer!!!! They are sooo cute!!!! HAhahah |
i would prefer the stainless steel ones, but i have 2 glass ones i use,one for water and the other for food. they came with a iron dish holder. leopard. real cute.. |
Stainless with non skid bottom.Plastic can have a bacteria buildup even when you think they are clean. |
Stainless steel, non-skid. Plastic always gets spilled or turns into a chew toy (even if it WAS full to begin with). |
WELL...as most of you know i am going to be making some personalized water and food dishes and i personally like the stainless steel which i will be decorating up!!!! so.....if anybodys interested...let me know once i post them....i will have both the stainless steel with non skid and plastic.....not sure about the ceramic yet!!!! |

Me, too! I love all the cute ceramic dishes. :p I wouldn't try to sell the plastic. It causes dermatitis and that is what causes the pink spots on their noses and also problems with their lips. I wish they didn't even sell them anywhere. |
I use "pottery" for water and feeding dishes, I use to use the stainless, I never use plastic so many toxins in plastic  |

I prefer colored ceramic. |
Well my baby will drink water out of a bowl but wont eat out of a bowl I have tried every bowl there is she prefers to eat off of a plate! Really weird! |
I have stainless steal bowls for Thor witht the non skid bottom but when he get really upset (like he doesn't want to be left in his cage) he turns them both over, which means food and water everywhere!!! Our other dog (lab) has ceramic (made out of clay, I don't know if I used the right word) bowls which are really heavy, and I really like those. They tend to be more expensive, but they are good. Thor drinks his water out of them and he can also play in them and not knock it ove! JMO Hannah |

My girls have a crystal bowl for water and a shallow crystal dish for food. It's pretty and easy to keep clean... |
I have stainless steel bowls |
We have stainless steel bowls for both girls! |
Snoodles drinks out of a ceramic bowl. She was scared to death of the stainless steel ones. What? Saw her reflection, or what? I bought two really nice ones at the dollar store. Real heavy, and pretty big. I wash them every morning as I do my bird dishes. As for eating, I found a small round tube at the dollar store, and now she eats her dinner out of that. She loves to paw at it and get the pieces of food out of it. I think it satisfies their hunting or gathering for food instinct. In the morning, she eats out of a small plate. Pat |
Ok, Walmart just made a sale based on this thread! I use plastic auto feeders for Wickett but bentley has one of this small 2 bowl plastic cheapies right now while he's a pup. We don't have a pet store worth a crud here for stuff like that so Walmart is about it...but I just heard we're getting a petsmart...YIPPEE I am ecstatic, my husband is worried about having to get another job to support my spending once it opens (haha) No really, I replace the plastic every so often but I had no idea how bad they were...So I will probably get ceramic ones now. |
:) Stainless!!!! YAY!!! :yorkietal |
i have stainless but I dont think that dollar likes them...i think he prefers plastic! |

Here it is. I just thought this was fairly common knowledge, but I guess not. Hope this helps to keep some of those cute little noses their natural color. :D Plastic dish dermatitis can occur if the dog eats or drinks out of plastic or rubber bowls. It is triggered by a reaction to an antioxidant found in the dishes. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/nose.html |
