Since rescuing Happy our new Yorkie who was abandoned, I have learned some new things...

1. No matter how many pets you have you always have love for one more.

2. Yorkies are amazingly smart!

3. They seem to like snuggley beds...Happy has a basket he commandeered with a poster-pedic cushion that is covered with a fleece cover inside..and yes, I am a dork, I made him a matching pillow!

4. They are so resilient - regardless of the sever neglect he has suffered he is full of love and spunk!

5. Boy do they like to go for walks, not leisurely ones either! For a three legged dog he can really cruise along!

6. Although my grandmother and three aunts have and had Yorkies it never occurred to me to get one - however in just a short amount of time I don't think I can do without one ever again.

7. Walking two dogs is a challenge....Husband will be going with us tomorrow to split the walking LOL.

8. Wonderful "things" come in small packages!

9. He is very protective for such a small creature.

10. What I have learned most of all is that I didn't understand what I was missing until he showed up on our doorstep and I am so thankful and blessed to have him in our home and life!

That's a yorkie all right! They learn quickly. They are very active. Mine walks my legs off. (Good for her!) She loves to snuggle in a soft bed - usually mine!

They are so faithful, trusting, loving, and forgiving in their nature. It's hard to believe when one has been so terribly neglected/abused as yours was that they can be so accepting and loving and still try their hardest to please you.

Thank you all! I am getting ready to bring him into our bed for the first time. I have a wonderful heated blanket I need to use for a chronic illness I have and I think he too would enjoy the coziness of it all

I love the name Happy, everytime I read one of your posts and you mention "Happy" it makes me smile.

Terrific, and you are on target. If I could find a 30 pound Yorkie, I would have the best Hog catching, Personal Protection dog out there! Dynamite in a small package, and an attitude to match, but they do like to be dressed up and taken with you.

It is kind of funny to me to see such a little creature such as he is growl at our 17.5 lb cat! And to rush to the door to see who might be there before I do like he is protecting me - which he is of course

Ah -- it is great to hear how happy you are with Happy!

You have definately been a blessing to him and it is so nice that the blessing is returned.

For help with the walks -- invest in a coupler. It lets you walk them with one leash, attached to a ring with a swivel that then has two leashes on it. (Or you can get as many short ones as you need). It helps a lot and keeps from those tangled leashes when you have a separate one for each. Make sure you get the kind wiht the swivel -- it ensures no tangles as they can keep crossing each other but the coupler just swivels instead of wrapping around itself.
