Abandoned Yorkie now named Happy! Two days ago my husband found a three legged Yorkie, he brought him inside immediately and called me at work. Once I arrived home, I could see that this wasn't a "lost" dog. Although he had on a clean coat (go figure) He was covered, and I mean covered with fleas, grunge etc. His dew claws were close to an inch and a half long and one was torn quite badly around the skin. He was hacking and I knew immediately what he most likely had was a collapsing trachea. He is not neutered. The worse of all of this? His severely decayed teeth - all of them sadly. We brought him to the Veterinarian office yesterday and he had a full work up and check up you could say. She said that this was one of the worst cases of neglect she had ever seen and she documented this so we could make sure that should any one attempt to come forward regarding him we could be sure he would stay with us instead. She fully was backing us up. Her guess is he is 10 years old and has spent much of his life not very loved. He is getting neutered next week and he is also having his teeth extraction done at the same time. My husband and I adore our three legged little baby, we have named him "Happy" and he has a nice new harness, coat and bed. He gets along well with our two cats and our other dog Zachary. He is on medicine for his coughing and hacking due to the trachea damage and it makes him a bit sleepy. :aimeeyork Thank you for letting us share Happy's story with you and I hope to get to know all of you and your babies in the future. You did a wonderful thing taking him in and giving him a happy home bless you and your family |
:welcome4: to YT! I am so glad that Happy found you!!! Sounds like the poor little soul has been through a lot and you and your husband is just what he needs. Please post pictures of him whenever you can. We would love to see him. And let us know how he is doing with his procedure next week. How big is he? What kind of dog is Zachary? Boy am I nosy :p LOL!!! Peggy, Monkey & Maddie :daisy: |

Thank goodness for you and your husband's kind hearts! Little "Happy" may not have lived much longer and surely would have continued to suffer if not for you two! Now he has a clean, warm bed; medical care; and good food -- but most importantly he has love in his life! I cannot imagine what possesses people to mistreat and neglect such sweet dogs. They want nothing more than to be loved and love in return. They can add so much to our lives if we just take care of their basic needs. I know this little guy is truly living up to his name at his good fortune! Bless you all! |
How wonderful that Happy now has a loving family! God Bless You and Happy! |
You are a wonderful person for taking Happy in, thank you on behalf of all abused/neglected pups out there. |
How can people continue to own a dog and let it get in the condition Happy was in? Obviously they cared nothing about the dog or don't know how to love, because if they did, they would never have let Happy get in that condition. It's so hard to hear that poor little dogs suffer like this. Obviously, you and your husband have the love and compassion Happy desperately needed. Surely it was fate that your husband found him. I am always to happy to hear when one of these babies lands up with angels like you two. :angelhalo |
Welcome and:bravo::bravo::bravo::bravo: to you and your husband. |
Good for you! It always renews my faith in mankind when I read stories like this on YT. Thank you for investing not only your money, but your love and time in Happy! Good Luck with him and keep up posted on how he's doing! |
You are an angel for giving Happy a chance for happiness during his senior years. I can't imagine anyone neglecting a dog. They give so much love, it would be hard not to return that love in return. Please keep us updated on Happy's progress. |

You are not nosey at all :) |
Thank you so much - All of you!!! He is snuggled next to me right now on the couch - he and Zachary just went for a little walk outside. Both were suited up in coats as it is a bit chilly here in Vermont today. I have never walked two dogs at the same time LOL, what a challenged that was! I will keep you all updated on his progress as we go along! |
What a HAPPY ending to a sad story. Hope you will post some pics of your two dogs. |
You are an angel to take Happy in. Nikki was a rescue found on the streets and he had to have all his teeth pulled and gum surgery because his teeth were so badly neglected. Once he healed from all the extractions he was like a new dog. I know Happy will feel so much better after his surgery next week. I would love to see pictures. |
Such a beautiful story. You and your husband are wonderful people |
what seems really sad to me was that at one time someone loved him enough to have his leg amputated unless he was born that way but them who that would neglect would get a three legged dog i had a three legged cat once and she was a lot of extra work |
I was so happy to read your post about Happy, hearing all these reports of abuse its nice to hear about good citizens like you and your husband. I hope you keep him since it sounds like he is in need of good loving home. |
I am so happy for this little man to be so content.. you have a terrific hubby to bring him home like that.. I am sure he is so happy he does not quite know what to make of it all yet.. |
So glad that Happy has found you both. I don't know what possess ppl to leave a wee one abandoned. Yet he had on a clean coat; someone cared somewhat for him, but oh why not bring that guy into the SPCA. The angels were looking after Happy that day he found you. Hope everything goes well with the neuter and teeth extraction. Bless you for caring so much |
Your story brought tears to my eyes. How can someone treat a baby that way! I am thrilled that you have the kindness in your heart to take this baby in and not only name the baby Happy but now it can be happy. Kudos to you!!!! |
how lucky he is to have you now |
WOW....your beautiful story, brought tears to my eyes....what wonderful people you are.... Please keep us informed on Happy...I will keep him in my prayers as he goes through his surgeries... |
Bless you for taking him into your home.... |
How wonderful of you to take him in and give him the love and care he deserves. I can't wait to follow his story! You and your husband are great people. I just can't imagine that sort of neglect. It sounds like he is enjoying the love he's receiving. |
Happy update! Hello everyone! I have posted pictures of Happy in the picture forum, I don't see my post yet but I am sure it will be there soon. He is doing great, the Hydocan is doing wonders for his trachea and he was just outside enjoying the sunshine. I am making him a coat right now, it will be adorable. Thank god I can sew and I am crafty :) Zachary is our dog is very protective and concerned for him. While Happy slept in his basket last night Zachary laid right beside him on his bed. Zachary is a wonderful brother and to think he hasn't ever had another dog living with us. Our Siamese Musa and Happy get along just fine, but when Bogey our orange white comes around it gets interesting....he chuffs and growls at him LOL. Mind you Musa is 16.5 pounds and Bogey is 17.5 pounds. When he sees Bogey come near me and he is laying next to me it is like the sound track from "The Good, the bad and the ugly" is playing!!! |
