OMG!! My dog just ate a dead...... Chloe went outside for a few minutes with me and hubby enjoying the warm sunny weather when Chloe grabbed a dead mouse. By the time I got to her she swallowed it whole. It was a small mouse but ewww, it is grossing my out. I called the vet to see if I should make her throw up or what. Thay said not to, just watch her and make sure she is able to have a BM. Anyone else had this problem. And what was the outcome? |
oh my gosh... that would freak me out a little too... but I wouldn't think it would be too harmful, that was kinda the purpose for the breed originally... I'd still be leary about her licking me anytime soon though...lol hopefully all is well and the yucky mouse will come back out soon!!! |
Oh my goodness!!!!! Hope the mouse comes out and she's OK!!!! |
Oh no. Do you know what killed the mouse? I don't want to add another worry but that was my first thought... was it poisoned or ??? Oh goodness, we'll be praying for Chloe. Let us know how she is doing! Peggy, Monkey & Maddie :daisy: |
There is a type of tapeworm they can get by eating infected rodents, so you'll need to watch for that. It is very easily treated/cured, so I wouldn't lose sleep over the possibility. |
I wondered about the mouse having been poisoned too. If you think there is even a possiblity of it, I would get her to the vet or at least call him. Did he ask about it? Her eating that mouse was definitely one of the EWWWW moments! |
Zoey did this about a month ago. All I found was the tail sticking out of her mouth and a tiny piece of fur. Called the vet and she said to watch her for diarrhea or vomiting. Nothing happened and she was fine. I don't know if she ate it like that or found it in that shape. I did ask the neighbor if they had put out poison and they had not. Good luck. Cherie |
Even if the mouse had been poisoned, there would not be enough toxins in the body of one mouse to harm a dog. Either way, that's just gross. Ewww! Kind of like the time Flash killed (and ate) a rabbit in the backyard and all found was the head. Blech! But, dogs are dogs--that's what they were bred for. |
Sissy is my hunter. I think the score this year is Sissy 4-moles 0. Last week I looked at her and saw a mole hanging from her mouth. Of course, I yelled, drop it, but she ran behind the bushes. By the time I got to her she had swallowed it. Yuck, no kisses for her. She got a good face wash and teeth brushing. |
I would make sure he is ok on his shots and call the vet and see what they say about it.... |
I knew my Rosie liked to chase things but I didn't think she would eat them. Yuck!! It is gross. I am sure you were totally yucked!! I am Chloe will be just fine!! Let us know that all continues to be well other than a case of yucky mouth! Also, I did not know that they would eat a rabbit! Rosie likes to chase them. I am so glad she has not caught one yet. |

:eek:EEEEWWWW!!! I know it won't hurt her but...EEEEWWWW! Mabel put a dead squirrel in my bed a month ago...While I was sleeping in it!! God knows how long I was lying there with a squirrel corpse!!! I threw the sheets away! I washed em twice in oxyclean and HOT water but still could not bring myself to put em back on!!!! Dogs love to chase/eat rodents, I guess that's just something we have to live with:eek:! But, we don't have to like it!!! (or sleep with em!) Hang in there one day you'll laugh about it!:) |
I'm glad everyone can't see my scrunched up face right now. I thought the whole poop eating was disgusting, i can't even imagine seeing the whole mother nature thing. I would certainly miss my yorkie kisses for awhile after that:eek: |
