pregnant and not sure what to ask for puppies my yorkie is going to have puppies. Both she and the dad are full blooded but we have no papers on them. What would be a reasonable amount to ask for the puppies when they get old enough to leave the momma? Also, this is her first litter, and last, and how many do they usually have? Any advice would be helpful!!!! Thank you |
oh no. was this an accident? i'm not sure about asking prices, but I would find you someone who is a really reputable breeder either on here or someone nearby on the YTCA website and practically move in because this is going to be a long ride. dog pregnancies can be much more complicated than even human ones and we wouldn't want anything bad to happen to your girl. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club find someone to help with this time in her life so it goes smoothly and you don't loose her or the puppies...after everything goes well and no lives are lost then i would start to think more about giving them to the best homes you can find. note that i said GIVING them. i don't know if you should be selling them off, but again i'd ask a professional reputable breeder about this as well. thanks and good luck i hope it goes ok. i would defin. spay/neuter after this. esp. ur male so he's not doing this to another person's yorkie out there. |
How many pups depends on the how the breedings took. Could be 1, could be 7. When she is around 50 days, you will need to have her xrayed. This will give you a guesstimate (not exact) as to how many pups and also give you and your vet advanced warning if the pups look too big for her to free whelp. You said last year, after she accidentally tied and gave you a pregnancy scare that you were going to have her spayed. :confused: Obviously, you didn't, eh? Given that the dogs are unregistered, I would sell them for what it costs to cover the price of the vet bills for your female and the litter. No more than $200-300. Quote:

You have a long way to go before you even THINK about how much you will charge for these pups. The health of the mother and the pups should be your priority right now so make sure she sees a vet. You say this is her last litter? are you planning on getting her spayed? How much does she weigh? if she ends up needing a c-section you should ask your vet to spay her then. Hope all goes well. |

I had not planned on her having puppies at all. She is my baby and I do not want to lose her and she weighed 7 pounds last vet visit that was before my husband brought home the male. I want to keep the pups. Esp if they are like their momma. I am def planning on both getting fixed now. I have appt for her to see vet again next week for xrays. |
I hope you do get them both fixed. I know you don't want anything to happen to your baby and there is a big risk with breeding. Alos, there are way too many yorkies/dogs being put to sleep each day to add to the problem. Since it was accidental you may want to find good homes if you can't keep them all. As far as cost, I would give or sell them to well screened owners for a minimal fee. Maybe you could get your male fixed now so you won't have to deal with it when the puppies are born. I hope it all works out. |
You said you were having her spayed last year when you thought she was pregnant with the Jack Russell terrier. You say now you plan to keep the pups, yet you asked what would be a reasonable amount to ask for the pups. These pups will not be registered, the dam and sire have not had testing for any genetic problems. How are you going to guarantee the health of the puppy to anyone considering buying a puppy whose pedigree cannot be proven? May last year when you thought she was pregnant you said she weighed 4 lbs, in June she miraculously weighed 7.3 lbs. I am sorry, but in my opinion, someone who doesn't plan on a dog having puppies and even after a pregnancy scare, doesn't get the dog spayed is irresponsible. Sorry if this seems harsh to you, but you put your little one's life at risk last year and didn't prevent it from happening again by having her spayed. |
I must be confused, a little more than 4 months ago you said she weighed 4 lbs, now you say she is 7 lbs. Also, don't they go into heat about every 6 months? So how is it 4 months later you are having another pregnancy scare? |
