? about registration I spoke with a breeder who was very nice. I asked her if her dogs/ pups were registered she told me that all of her dogs were AKC and CKC registered but she now registers her litters in only CKC because people were wanting to buy a dog would say i want show quality but never had any intention on showing. So now she just registers the litters in CKc instead of both. but all the parents are AKC. Does this sound okay? |
i dont know Dollar is ACA and I have no idea what that is? |
ACA- American Canine Association |

That is what some have said to me also "It's cheaper". However, it isn't a lot to register with AKC. You only run into bigger money if the dog is over 6 months old and hasn't been registered as an individual. |

It was $15 for Loki's AKC registration. AKC's "limited" registration is meant for dogs who will be pets, not show dogs and they can't be bred. That's why it's limited. What she said doesn't make any sense to me. |
Before I begin - I am not talking about the Canadian CKC registration, but Continental Kennel Club (CKC). If she has one that is AKC and another CKC and she breeds them - the litter can only be registered with CKC and that is after she registers the one that is AKC to CKC. This will make both CKC with one having a dual registration. I could be wrong, but what I know is that AKC will not easily or at all register a CKC dog/litter to get them registered AKC. And if she wanted to show her dogs why would she register them with CKC (continental KC) since theyare not into showing/confirmation yet. It doesn't make sense. All mine are AKC. T. |
i think it's a personal preference who she chooses to register with. akc is number one but should not exclude a yorkie from being considered any less of a yorkie if not registered with them. i would check to see if she has been suspended from akc and if not, i don't see a problem if her babies are healthy and raised in great environment. |

i'm a little confused. her buyers wanted a show puppy but didnt have any intentions to show. maybe i read it wrong. maybe they were wanting a breed quality but do not show? i can relate to that. i may be way off here, but i dont know the breeder you're speaking of so i cant say . |
Plain and simple..CKC does not make a breeder answer to anything. You do not have to keep records, DNA males, no permenent ID such as a chip or tatoo, never have to under go an inspection of records and dogs, parents need not be purebred for breeding and registering of litters. Now I am on my soap box for a minute... I read the other day in several commerical breeder forums that AKC is courting the commerical breeders to return AKC..they are holding seminars to invite breeders back. I am not a fan of the AKC because I have seen them say one thing and do another for years. It is all about the dollar and they have lost millions because most commerical breeders have left AKC for CKC and APRI. AKC thinks the show and hobby breeders will not find these things out and it makes me mad..having sadi that, AKC is still the only registry I will use, even with it flaaws, I think they are the only way to go.....BUT they are certainly getting a letter from me about this new stuff going on. |

pat you said a mouth ful. i can relate to your post very well. i am very very interested in biewers and i know i cant reg them with akc at this time if i aquire one or two lovely babies. i am going to need lots of info on the reg with the biewers as i do more research. akc has become so very political that it makes my ears hot. ckc in my opinion is a registry that is for those who aren 't into showing. (conformation) hobby breeders only. i have no problem with that. i am also a member and have no complaints. and i am the first to admit that millers have taken advantage of what could be a good registry. akc has been wonderful to me, as i have been affiliated with them for 10 yrs now. i have nothing bad to say against them just like the ckc. with all the new things out there that i for one am interested in and the akc will not acknowledge, i can understand going a diff route. (i'm not talking about mixes) i am talking about golds, chocs, biewers, ect ect. there is a registry for these wonderful colors but akc doesnt participate.( i think they do reg parti color?) ?? i'm an open minded person. my mother always said it would be my down fall, but i beg to differ. yes, i am very open minded and i say to each their own. yes ckc is cheaper than akc to reg with. known fact. but if they were the only reg out there i wouldnt be posting this thread. the ckc was a day late and a dollar short. akc has and always will rule in the show world. my step dad has beautiful, standard, healthy boxers that live in his home that he is preparing for a ckc weight pull show. i am going to be there with bells on. i guess it goes back to some of my other posts where i have tended to lean towards the norm. sometimes i wish i would just grow some balls. pat , i hope you know i love and respect your years of knowledge and your advice. i'd love to live near you and take in all your knowledge and know you. i guess i just understand that diff breeds, breeders, are going to need diff registries for whatever reason. i just dont look down on the individual dog because of that. i have heard so many times in posts and reading on web sites that ckc isnt worth the paper they are written on. i would hate to think that was being said about my puppy if i were a buyer seeking one puppy for a pet that came from a reputible breeder who was reg with ckc and had his or her pups in better conditions than any paticular akc breeeder who may have not been doing as good of a job as the other breeder no controversy intended. just my opinion. |
"She does not want to show her dogs. they are AKC registered. she said that she registered her past litters with AKC but buyers were wanting a show puppy but did not have any intention on showing the pup therefore she NOW just registers her litters with CKC. __________________ *DeKetra & Albert* " That still doesn't make sense - the buyers wanted a show puppy but had no intention to show - so the breeder went to CKC? CKC doesn't show yorkies for confirmation, so why would she go to a kennel club that doesn't show at all! If she wanted the people to show - she should have a contract and state that they would have to show. That doesn't always guarantee they will show. But her answer - just sent a red flag because she doesn't seem to know what she is talking about or is trying to give you a load of you know what to get you to believe her to buy one of her dogs. YorkieRose - you are so right! You go girl! I have heard the same from my club members at our meetings. :yeahthat: T. |
opinions Robbie...I am the first to admit I am a registration snob..I can be very open minded in many areas, but this gets to me because so many breeders lie about why they use a non-AKC registry. If I was buying a pet, registry would mean nothing to me...infact I would not care if it had papers at all. What it looked like and it's personality would be all that counted. Best wishes |
registration snobs are ok with me, LOL i was one of them at one time... i've just changed a little over time. i am still a snob in general when it comes to yorkies...and i am sure you can relate to that! i'm as snobby as they come when it pertains to my babies. probably another of my down falls....lol pat, i love reading your posts. you are the first one i look for each day. :thumbs up |
I was just wondering what is wrong with her now regeristering her pups with CkC if they are pet only and no one wants to show them. But just as someone said earlier since all her breeding dogs are AKC registered the pup can still be correct. |
since they're not showing them i dont guess there's anything wrong with it. i just dont understand fully why she changed registries if she has 2 akc parents. why was that nesessery? |
since they're not showing them i dont guess there's anything wrong with it. i just dont understand fully why she changed registries if she has 2 akc parents. why was that nesessery?[/QUOTE I do believe she did not fully change registries her parents are both AKC and CKC. But I wanted to know if it sounded okay for her to register a litter with only CKC if the pup is for a pet only. I guess there are alot of red flags afterall. |

Also check to see if she has been suspended from AKC for some reason...you can call them or there is a website to check. Sorry I don't have the link right now but search YT, and try "Breeder Suspension List" in google or other search engine. And ask for some recent references... Good luck and keep us posted, look forward to "meeting" your new baby soon! |
I don't know if this is actually true or not, but I have been informed (by a person at AKC) that if a pup is registered with the AKC, it can also be registered with the CKC, but nor the other way around. Meaning that the CKC recogonizes (sp) the AKC, but the AKC does not recognozie the CKC. I don't know what the cost difference is, but the $15.00 AKC registration doesn't sound to expensive to me. I register my "litters" with the AKC. The AKC does a great job with keeping records and such. I don't know what kind of "customer satisifaction" (for lack of better wording) the CKC gives. There are a few questionable things the AKC does, but for the most part, they're good. Suz |
i have heard so many times in posts and reading on web sites that ckc isnt worth the paper they are written on. QUOTE] Of course they're not worth anything if you come accross a dishonest breeder. But then again, the same could be said for AKC, now couldn't it? |
The breeder is sounding "throwed off" to me. What difference does it make if someone wanted show quality as a pet only? I thought AKC was to register purebred dogs? And I just registered my puppy Jagger and for $37 it got him his AKC papers and a life-long enrollment in the Lost Dog Reward Recovery Program..a minimal fee indeed. I think she didn't know what she was talking about and thought you wouldn't know either. |
It really doesn't matter if she uses AKC or CKC. That is her preference. But the point is that her explanation of why she changed is not adding up - it doesn't make sense. Just sounds fishy to me! Have you asked her to clearify more? Best of luck. There are honest breeders out there that will be upfront with their buyers. And if this one sounds fishy - what else is she not being honest with. You will find the right baby for you. :p T. |
Well said topknot. |
okay i also know that she has not been suspended from the AKC list. but i just found what she said weird that's all thanks for all the advice. |
