Am I nuts, or would this upset anyone else?
 

K, so I go to pick up my Taylah from the groomers after I drop my husband off at work and all, and she's being held by someone I don't know AT ALL! I can see if it was staff or her groomer or something holding her, but NOPE, this just was a random *customer*. I'm kinda bothered that the groomers/managers were just so easy to hand over my Taylah to her.. sure they may know her, but how well? and I DONT know her! It doesnt really bother me when they told me she was never in her crate, as she was being passed around and cuddled by the staff... but giving her to a customer or a stranger kinda does. I mean, if this person was evil and had bad intentions, it would be SO easy for them to just snatch her and leave and not come back with her! Plus, I dont want to be rude, but we don't have fleas, and I know its a chance everytime you take them out and to a place like that, but what if this lady's pet/s had fleas and they were on her and they jumped on Tay? This just so unsettles with me. :( The flea thing doesn't even bother me as much as these managers were just TO trusting! All it takes is 1 person to even think about running off with my baby! And what is even more maddening to me, is that this is the only person non-staff that I seen holding her, who knows who or how many others they let love on my baby! :(

You have EVERY right to be angry and upset! I would be furious! :mad: I've heard of people having their dogs stolen from groomers before. It's sad but true! Whenever I bring my pooches to the groomers, I stay there and watch the entire procedure. I even help them hold my dog because I've seen groomers be too rough with dogs before and it pisses me off. These tiny dogs are fragile and if a groomer jerks or pulls them, they can really hurt them and maybe even fracture or break a bone. Maybe I am OVER protective but I have to be! Our dogs can't talk and tell us if a groomer hurt them or if some stranger picked them up. So we have to be extra cautious with our babies!

Are you going to find a new groomer?

I would be very upset. I doesn't matter if they knew the person or not. What if something happened when they were holding them, God forbid they dropped him. How well do they know who this person is? Anything can happen. I would find another groomer.

As much as we hear about Yorkies being taken, it would upset me too.
When I leave Princess, they don't crate her. They take her right away,
and call me 15 min. before she is done. I would tell your Groomer she is not to be held by anyone who is not on staff. I know a lot of people just love Yorkies, but they should ask the parents if they could hold them. I would never put Princess in risk at any time.

I guess I'm too trusting because I don't think it would have upset me. What would make me uncomfortable is worrying whether my puppy's shots have had time to protect him from the "nasties" he could pick up at the groomers.

I guess Small Town USA really does have its advantages. I live in a town with population of about 2500; everybody knows everybody. My groomer has 7 yorkies of her own, so I never worry about my 2 when they are with her. She has her shop set up in my vet's office, which makes it double nice. I drop JPop and Taz off on my way to work at 8 and pick them up at lunch and take them home. Wish you all could be as worry-free about your groomer as I am. I am very protective and don't know if I could handle the "big" places. :) Isn't it sweet that we all love our babies so much! :D

I can honestly say I would have been furious! Like you, I wouldn't have minded the staff .... but a stranger is out of the question :thumbdown I'm not saying I would never let a stranger hold my dog, but it would have to be MY decision.

I don't think you are Over Protective. My Mother always said she was Over Protective, (She was a NYPD and VERY protective of us) But she also always said, the only thing in life she can't replace is someone who has a heart. And we all know how big Yorkie hearts are. :)

Oh yeck NO!!! I would have been one very upset person. I took Gus to the Groomer once and and never went back! I am still learning but I do all grooming myself.

I would have raised all sorts of he** in there! In front of the other cutomer, even. They should NOT have done that. There are too many bad people out there that would have taken off with the pup and then what? Who would have paid for a replacement? I'd never go back there AGAIN!!!!!

I can't help but keep thinking about this! :( It breaks my heart to just THINK of what could have happened..

Unfortunately this the only groomer, and we also live in a small community of about 2400, but still, again it only takes 1 person to take a baby like this in this situation! This just urks me..

We have a Petco about 24 miles from us, and I may end up taking my girls there.. sure its more inconveint, but Im not going through this again!

:thumbdown If you have to continue to go there, I would call while its FRESH in your mind and advise them... that You dont Appreciate your dog being passed around to STRANGERS like a ragdoll,and would insist that this doesn't happen again. They have no right to do that,, its like daycare,,would they do that at a daycare, I dont think so. In the end, they are liable for what happens at THEIR business. :thumbdown

Yes, I can see how you would be upset. I HATE when people pick up Ginger. They’re all in her face letting her give them kisses on the lips (ew), where I will be, no doubt. And who knows where their hands have been…. Yeah, I can totally see your point. But I’m almost certain no one meant any harm. That stranger probably had no idea she offended you.

I'd learn to do it myself. There is NO way that I'd go back there.

I just called them! Its still urking me in my mind! I got voicemail as they close like an hour for lunch or so, so they better call me back! I know they will, as I kinda fibbed and told them that I had to set up an appt. eeek!

Let us know what happens! You definitely had every right to get upset! You entrusted your baby with THEM, not other customers. They have the duty to protect your baby in every way possible while in their care and therefore should not be playing a game of pass the pup! :mad:

I would have been very upset as I am extremely picky about who holds my babies since if they are dropped accidentally, they are seriously injured, and they could be stolen. I would never leave mine unattended at the groomers. I have my groomer come to my home and I am there. If you do not have one who will do this then ask for an appt where they will take her immediately and you can stay and watch and wait until they are done and take her with you.

This avoids them grooming her wrong too whch happens all the time even when you write the instructions down.

I just don't trust people and have heard too many horror stories about abuse and accidents, especially with yorkies. It's not worth it imo.

How dare them....I mean i dont want to sound selfish but sometime I dont even like people I know holding Dollar...does that sound bad? So yes, i would be very upset and I think you have every right to be. these are our precious babies!!! :mad:

I think that the issue is not a replacement as there is NO WAY a replacement could take the place of any one of my babies.

I agree with Never going there again.

Even if they didn't try snatch her - most people don't know how to hold onto these wiggly little sugar boogers! Even when you're used to holding them it can be challenging. Especially if they get excited, like I'm sure she got when she saw you!!

The Groomer should not of passed your baby around.

I heard back from them! I voiced my concerns and how I felt very uncomfortable with them doing that and so forth..

They apologized but told me straight out that they never thought of it that way and apologized for offending me and so forth... They seemed really nice about it.. but Im still edgy on taking the girls back there. BUT if I ever do I want it to be when I can be there and watch to make sure no one gets them like this again!

I'm glad that they at least apologized. But I personally would either learn how to groom them and do it myself at home or find another groomer. I'm just not a trusting person. You know the old saying: fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on ME.

You are NOT being overprotective! I'm sure that if something had happened to your dog, the groomer would have said that they weren't liable for it because that person wasn't their staff. Better safe than sorry. Their management should know better than to do something like that!

You mentioned thinking of Petco for grooming. I have never used them (I do it myself), but have heard NUMEROUS horror stories on here about Petco grooming :eek: ! There is a thread right at this exact minute (HELP!! The groomer hurt my baby) where they cut off part of a Yorkie's tongue at Petco today....please view it and others before taking yours!!

yeah I just read that one before! :( How awful.. I only said that cause that is the only other one I know of around here. :( WE are very sheltered in this kinda of stuff.. I may do some digging to see whats near us, even if it is 30 or more miles...

Is it something you might consider doing yourself? It really isn't hard....though you may end up with a few bad hair cuts at first (but maybe not if you only take a little off at a time). If it seems like too much (nails, ears, cutting, bathing) to do at once, break it down into a few days. I do the ears while they are in the tub so they can shake the excess solution out and not have it all over them AFTER they are bathed. I also started clipping the nails while they are in the tub before they even get wet. Anyway, just an idea to toss around.

OMG, don't take your baby to Petco or Petsmart! :thumbdown Go to Gen discussion and read "Help, the groomer hurt my baby" !!!!!They don't have to be certified to groom your baby,they can walk in off the street and start working with YOUR baby!! I took Satch to PetSmart and thought the girl did a good job until I raised a brush and Satch went wild!! I have no idea what she did to him bit I will never let him go there again!!!!You might just explain your feelings to the groomer and that you don't want anyone else holding your baby.I hope it all works out for you.Good luck!!

Well I tried to do this to Trixie the yorkie we had before, as she was a mess when we got her! And she looked better, but also worse. haha I coudl attempt it, but Im so afraid I will hurt her cause of how tiny she is and make her look soo bad. lol
