Can your Yorkie swim? This saturday was my brother's bday so we had a lil pool party. With that said, Mojo was in a party mood, got a nice bath, a little blue bow and smelling real good...when i least expect..PLUF!!! the lil guy is on the pool...i was soo worried, he seemed to be fine tho...later on when my bf jumped in the pool he jumped with him...he really seemed to have fun. I didn;t leave him in the pool cuz i was really scare of him getting any problems (like ear infections) But i think he really enjoyed... Do you guys take your yorkies swimming? If so, in a pool or at the beach? Do they like? What special care we need to take?? Thankssssss |
No swimming here yet. Its 20 degrees :) Just wanted to say how jealous I am that you are in a climate warm enough to swim in February! |
I'd say just to make sure they're not too cold, so have a towel ready and preferrably a hair dryer as well that you can use. They do get cold pretty fast. I hate to see a Yorkie shaking when they are cold. |

OOps...didn;t think of that...I know i am really lucky, here in sunny Miami saturday was a good day for the pool and Mojo e Gizmo (his yorkie friend) were all about running around and getting wet...sorry i didn't get pictures! When it got darker (and colder) I dried Mojo with a blow dryer...it was so unexpected that he jumped him, i wasn;t prepared...next time i will record it for sure:) I am thinking of taking him to a doggy beach but i was told it is dirty and has fleas all over it..:( Anyone know how doggy beaches work? |
My yorkie HATES to swim, but LOVES the beach. lol Odd, right? He can swim, but doesn't seem to like it much unless it's his idea to do it. But he'll run and run and run at the shoreline on the beach for hours. He loves attacking the waves as they come in and chasing them as they wash out. lol Such a funny little character! :aimeeyork |

We took Snoodles to Seattle when she was 6 mos. old. They had a pool, and I put her in with her harness and leash on (just in case) and was surprised how good she swam. She did get real cold, though, so had to dry her and wrap her in a towel. That's my baby! Pat |
I have been told by many people that their yorkie love to swim however, if I ever put any of my dog in the water I believe they would sink like a rock! |

Ohh, and when i say doggy beach i mean pet friendly beaches, i know a area that is more like a "bay"...it is like a side of a beach but doesn;t really have waves and it is pet friendly, but a friend told me it is always dirty (even dog poo) and fleas...i don;t want to take my Mojo there...i will do my own reseach tho.. I'll let you guys know and will try to get pictures!!:D:) |
I can't wait til this summer to see if he can swim :) Too cold nnow!!! But we are always at my sister-in-laws during the summer and I hope Luigi can hang with us!!! If not he'll have to stay inside and get tormented by the cats!!! She has 3 of them!! :animal-sm hahaha!!! :animal-sm |
Just keep swimming..... Hey luckily enuff its warm here most of the year(canaries) one day we took rambo to the beach and it was quite warm he went in really shallow water and my dad called him from the other side of the little rock pool.it was so sweet he swam over to my dad and almost looked like he was smiling and really pleased with himself. i would watch for the temperature tho, this little rock pool was quite warm. do you think it wud be better for our pooches to go in the sea than in swimming pools? wouldn´t the chlorine be bad for them? love vikki and rambo :aimeeyork |
Buddy likes to swim, but does not care for a bath. Jake can not swim, but love to bathe. I gues you can't have it all. |
I was going to ask the same question. I have a koi pond in my back yard and spring is just around the corner. My "Glory" is extremely bunnylike, very playful and agile and isn't afraid of much. I keep imagining her doing a flying leap into my pond to play with my fish. I'm glad Yorkies can swim. Thanks abunch! :) Mommy of Angel and Glory. [/I] |
that's a great point about the chlorine. i never would have thought about that. i don't have a yorkie yet, but i'm pretty sure that i'll be finding one for myself sometime soon. i'm going to be living in hawaii, though, so i'm wondering about the sand. is it impossible to get out once they get it in their hair? sorry if this is a stupid question and if non-yorkie owners aren't allowed. i'm just very curious because i'd love to be able to take my dog for walks on the beach in the morning. |
