Crazy mean neighbor! Has this happened to you? So Taycie and I have our daily morning routine... we wake up, or rather she wakes me up and we go on our morning walk! I live in a basement apartment so most of the time we are using the "toilet" facilities as we are walking. Now maybe I am the one being rude but I was so annoyed with the neighbor that lives two houses down this morning! There is a GIANT park litterally a half a block away so that is normally were we walk so she can go potty and its really nice and quiet! There is hardly ever alot of dogs there so we can both walk and enjoy ourselves. BUT we have to walk to get there... Well this morning we are walking up the street to go to the park and usually she will potty on the front lawn immedietly... I don't blame her! She held it all night long! But to get her to go number 2 it takes her a minute so that is why we walk... Well AFTER the entire buisness has been taken care of and we are walking home WITH MY Poop sack in hand she starts to walk on the CRAZY neighbors lawn... There IS NO sidewalk on the block that I live so yes... sometimes she does end up in other people's lawn and if she does EVER have to go potty I ALWAYS clean up after..... Anyway... I noticed him the other day while we were walking by he was standing inside at his door but just looking through the glass... I didnt really think much of it and we went on our merry way .... well this morning she started walking on his lawn and opened the door so fast and glared at me like we both had a diease! So basically I was shocked! I have my poop bag in hand its not like she is going in your ugly yard anyways... I was SO annoyed!!!!!!!! I wanted to open the already used poop bag and dump it on his lawn and yell.. HAVE A GREAT DAY! Take a chill pill! You UGLY OLD MAN! We weren't even doing anything wrong... what am I supposed to do walk in the middle of the road and risk something awful to happen so she won't happen to walk on your Lawn???? And what would a 4pound dog do to your ugly lawn anyways! So maybe I'll just start taking poop bags in the middle of the night and start dumping them on his lawn! UGH I am SO ANNOYED! |
Some people don't have anything else to do - just think, maybe you and your pup are the highlight of his day! Just give him a big friendly wave - could you imagine if he called the cops how dumb he'd look??:D |
I had a similar problem last night! I live in a townhouse that backs to a beautiful bike trail with a mud puddle some people call a lake. But because I have nerve damage in my ankle, Crickett and I can't go down there to walk very often. So we walk around the sidewalk in front instead. (Which is more like a park). She never pottys in other peopls yards because we go BEFORE the walk. I always carry a bag tied to the leash "just in case". I do however let her smell around the sidewalk and yards. We never even stop long enough for her to potty in anyones yards! Yesterday I waved and said hi to a neighbor as we walked by. (Normally we have a very friendly community.) The guy yelled under his breath, "(something, something)... Damn Dog, I don't even like you anyway!" WTH?!?!?! Some people are just truly grumpy people and NOT yorkie friendly. Poor souls. I feel sorry for them. They are missing a true blessing in their lives! Anyway when you walk past the guys ugly yard, just try to imagine how miserable and unhappy he must be instead of being mad. :D |
Not to take sides but maybe he's had to clean up after dogs in his yard...where one goes others will follow and it can be very frustrating. Maybe he just wants to discourage all dog walkers to stay off of his yard whether they are carrying a potty bag or not. You never really know what the other person is feeling or what they have gone through so it's always best to try to understand and be considerate. |
LOL!!! I don't know him or even seen him. But I can picture an old man peeking through the window like a weirdo! Instead of droppin the poop in the lawn.....do the classic poop prank....put it in a brown paper bag....light it on fire, ring his doorbell & RUN! ( Make sure not to actually burn down his house....because then you'll be an arsonist :( ) |

Well I can also see both sides, maybe another dog has been using his yard as a bathroom and that dogs owner does not clean it up, maybe he will realize that you are a great responsible owner that does pick up after your dog. But to stand there and just stare at you is ugly. |

Very well said, and I should have read all comments before I posted pretty much the same thing you said..lol.. |

I can see your point and I'm not trying to sound inconsiderate of his feelings I was just frustrated! That is why we walk to the park.. so she does not use other's property! I think I will just walk on the other side of the street from now on... It's just really akward when all of the sudden some strange man is glaring at you and unforunetly there is no sidewalk so that doesn't help... And there is a house with little dogs.. chi's and poms that run all over the neighborhood and I am sure they have gone in his yard... I just wish if he was going to watch and be onery he would yell at the ones that ACTUALLY use his yard |
It sounds like you live in a townhouse like me! We go down to the end of the road where they do their business on walks if they don't go in the backyard. There are people that do just let their dogs go on peoples yards (thank god not on our street) which may be why your neighbor is so upset. I know I'd be mad if I stepped in another dogs poop on my own lawn!! You would think having the poop bag in your hand would show him that you are a responsible pet owner who cleans up after your dog but you never know. |

I was thinking the exact same thing. I have never walked Prince on other people's private property, and I don't want anyone to walk their dog on mine...size doesn't matter. |
Problem with even cleaning up after your dog responsibly is that other dogs will catch the scent and need to mark it. And the next dog may not be accompanied by a responsible owner to clean up after it. Also - the ammonia in the urine does burn the grass. If he takes any pride in his lawn, he won't appreciate any "recreational" use of his lawn. How about trying to be cordial? Smile and say good morning. Tell him he has a nice yard and you won't let your dog mess it up. Maybe he's lonely, or sick, or both. If you give him a little respect, you might be surprised. Sorry to go on a rant but I spend a lot of time with old people and think it's shameful the way we let them be abused and neglected. There are a few people who are just hopeless, but I've found that the really cranky ones are usually frightened or ill, and a little kindness goes a heck of a long way. |

Humm thats weird my OH always tells me size DOESNT matter? Anyway back to the point lol, i have to agree that maybe walking on the other side of the road might be best. My Dad used to freak when dogs came onto our lawn and poo'd and wee'd and i think i would too. I understand your fustration on getting your little girl to the park tho. Good luck xxxxx |
hmm..... I guess if she was using his yard I would be annoyed too... no I wouldn't want someone or some dog using my yard either but she NEVER has POTTIED in his yard!! NOT ONCE! |
While I do not have a yorkie, rather a lab and four children, I was searching for people who have had bad experiences with neighbors and found your post. People can be terrible. You should read what happened to us with our nasty mean neighbor this past week. Bad Neighbors - Get off my F#$%ing Lawn!!!! | Day to Day Woman |

Seriously, there's a lady on the next block with a big german shepard that would let him poop on my (nice) yard...he was on a leash too. Then she'd just up and walk away with him. After several times of that I finally ran out and said "here, (offering her a plastic grocery bag) take that with you." My hubby came out and said to her: "How'd you like it if I came and sh** on your front steps?" (I know crude, but really...think about it...what would be the difference? Which excrement would be the ruder of the two?) Haven't seen her since. But she looked shocked at the time - like she thought I had some nerve. People are weird. |

If he's so concerned I think you should show him what you're carrying in that little baggie. :D |

This doesn't excuse the man's language -- I would be very upset about that, too. |
cdahle - I read your link...unfrickenbelievable!!! The old neighbors in my last subdivision were so hoity toity and persnickity about their grass they literally trimmed the edges on their knees with scissors!!! Neighborhood kids, including my own, were afraid to retrieve a stray ball from their yard. Now I live in a wee house on a couple of acres, with a private school a few lots down. Kids will walk home from school & cut across my yard and I am thankful for it...thankful that these kids are not walking on the edge of the street (no sidewalks) where they could be easily hurt or abducted. I hope to God I never become a miserable old person that values a lawn or a shrub more than children. Can you imagine...thinking on your deathbed...I was a complete jackass to children...but I kept a nice patch of grass??? |

You will be old one day. Treat older people the way you would like to be treated. :) |
I can also see both sides. Your little dog will leave a very little pile, and you clean up after your baby. You are a good pet owner. However, years ago, we had three neighbors with dogs, and I had only an indoor cat. Every time I mowed my lawn, I had to shovel poop from big dogs (or step in it). It was so frustrating. Also, one neighbor walked her dog up the street to the dam (where everyone walks dogs), and he would pee on our bush. Well, every other dog going by pee-ed on that bush too, and eventually we lost the bush. Well, we no longer have all those dogs in the neighborhood, and now I am the dog owner. I really try to respect other people's lawns. But, it is hard. |
I can understand that the man might be upset because other people (not you) let their dogs poop on his lawn. But he is being unfair to think that you are one of those people, especially when you are carrying a bag for the poop. Maybe he was having a bad day. Kill him with kindness. Smile and wave when you go by and maybe he will see that you are not an irresponsible pet owner. |
Potty Your Dog, Not on Private Property I never let my dogs go on anyone's private property, and I do not want anyone's dog going on my property. No. 1 Respect for other people's property. No. 2 You do not know what dog or other animal has used the same property. Has that dog had his shots? Is the wild animal sick?:aimeeyork |
Some people don't like dogs. (Shudder) Or children. I have seen many people go crazy over dogs or kids in their yards. Sad but true!!! So sorry about your mean neighbor, if you were my neighbor I would welcome your baby in my yard!!!!!! |
I think I posted this thread in June/July? I am not sure..anyways I have found out many neighbors have also had the same reaction from him as well, apparently he does this to many people walking dogs by his house. I have since taken his reaction at the time with a grain of salt and moved on. I am obviously not the only one. And.... in November their house was put up for sale and in early January I saw moving trucks and he has moved. |
I am new and a little nervous at this but wanted to do my first post. I have had Yorkies since 1978 and LOVE dogs so don't think I don't understand ugly neighbors are such a pain. Still, I can't blame them for not wanting unsolicited dogs and/or possiblefeces and urine in their yard, though I don't understand it. I don't think owning my dog gives me the right to infringe on any of my neighbors' yards, sidewalks, etc., even with my little 5.3 lb. Tibbe who is cuter than anything! Many people just do not "get" dogs and think dog owners take liberties - and so many do. My older neighbors are especially grumpy about this but I try to figure maybe those poor people have something awful going on in their lives and maybe just one more little thing is too much. So, little Tibbe and I are the best of neighbors and I pick him up when I walk in front of some neighbors' houses and try not to think too badly of them. They smile more now that I have a pattern of doing this. They know Tibbe will never soil their lawn. I personally do not get the problem with a bit of poop on the grass but still try to understand and tolerate their sensibilities when their property or its environs involved. We're making friends that way! |

If you invested in a nice car would you like it if someone ran a key down the side of it? Probably not. If that happened would you like someone to say, "oh they probably just don't like cars..." "you can always just paint over it" If someone doesn't mind dog poo and pee on grass then let your animal do his/her business on your own lawn...don't bring it to another person's lawn. All that being said if I saw a doggie bag was being carried by someone walking their dog, despite I wouldn't want their dog's feces bacteria on my lawn, if their dog did go and they immediately picked it up I wouldn't get too bent out of shape; however, I would if they did it daily, because clearly they have their dog's business down to a good time and they can let 'em go on their own lawn before they go for a walk. But I was raised in a different time where - for example -- as a child if our ball went into someone's yard, you rang the bell and got permission to retrieve it. Those days are long gone... |
Crazy mean neighbor Agreed, Kendra! |
I would probably smile and ask him how he is. Usually people are soft in the middle when you get through that hard shell. Otherwise it may escalate. |
