Fun thread How did you decide on your Baby's or Babies Name? Daisy is named after a train on Thomas the train. My 5 year old daughter named her. Hannah and her best friend Ollie both got yorkies as their wish though the children's wish foundation. Ollie's puppy is named Rosie after the train from Thomas. |
It's kind of funny how we named our little one. We wanted to name her something that we had never heard on a child. So, we took one of our baby books and went through names! We really like Gabby, but my 4 year old has a friend named Gabby. We started saying Gabrielle and somehow got Bri. I have to say, now that we're having an actual baby our #3, I'm having the HARDEST time picking a name! Now I see dogs on here that have names we liked HA!! |
Jackson originally came about after watching Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. He has a song called "Jackson" and my mom suggested it since we loved that song from the movie, lol. I thought it was soo catchy. But then I'm also a Michael Jackson fan, so it ended up fitting! |
Zekie got his name from the bible. The people we bought him from have biblical names for all their Yorkies, so I looked through the bible for a male name that I could pronounce, and came up with Ezekiel. |
Duke- he was the largest in the litter and the breeder's husband called him Bear, but I didn't like that, so Duke (like from a king's court) just stuck. Jax- I told my boyfriend if he would let me get a cat, he could name it. So I got the cat and he named him after a bottle of cleaning detergent named Jax Piper- I looked over many lists of names and it came down to Piper and Sage...Piper just stuck when I saw her. My parent's cat that I name is called LILY. I got it for my mom for Mother's day and it stands for Lori, I Love You. I didn't like the name MILY, so I couldn't use mom, instead used her name. |
Well, we decided to name our maltese/shih tzu Max because of my granddaughter and then our yorkie came along and Ruby was just natural. (for those of you who don't know, Max and Ruby is a children's show):) |
We thought long and hard about what to name our yorkie....it just came down to a few names and I picked Trixie from them.....I guess I had heard it from the Honeymooners show and it just stuck with me. :animal-pa |
I had a pretty good list of names before I named Sophie. So I put them on the board at school and my classes voted....(I think I would have chosen Sophie even if it didn't win ;)) I never could come up with a middle name, so her name on her registration ended up being La Belle Sophia (The Beautiful Sophia - in French). Love my Sophie!!! |
My husband and I decided even before we got the dog that he had to have an ITALIAN name LoL The main reason was because the majority of the people in my family are Italian..and really butcher any name that isnt Italian. For instance, my husband's name is Ed...they call him "Head" LOL So we decided on a VERY Italian name..Pasquale....Glad to say, noone in my family has butchered him name yet lol Very easy for them to say! |
had to be something really Scottish I was gonna go with the name of an island. My mum's last name is McTigue (McTeeg). Their nicknames as kids were the Tiguees. So I asked dad and he said it was a great name and we have Teegy. |
Gracie's name came about because the name I wanted (Lolly) got vetoed by hubby and son. I had thrown out Gracie as an alternative and days before we were even sure we would get her they brought home a little pink doggie shirt, a pink collar, and a rhinestone "G" --- what else could I do? Carly came about from my son and daughter liking the tv show, "ICarly" - I wanted "Harlow" but all vetoed that one too. In a fluke I ended up meeting the owner of "Harley" who turned out, we found after puppy discussion, was Carly's brother (small world)...would have been weirder if we had in fact of named Carly "Harlow" So since we're getting another soon...I told them this time I'm naming her. I still lean toward Harlow, but when you call it out like, "Here, Harlow" it doesn't sound right and Lolly flows. Anyone who wants to suggest some names for our new one feel free to let me know as I can't think of any other ones. Stuck on the Harlow or Lolly. Would consider something different. Kendra |
I was going back and forth from Chloe to Zoe. Niece wanted Chloe, daughter wanted Zoe...since Zoe was my grandma's name I went with that. |
I apologize if someone has read this post on Taycie's name before.. I know I have posted her story before... I named Taycie after a childhood favorite book called Betsy~Tacy. Its about two little girls who become best friends and the series goes all the way until Besty gets married! My grandmother and mom loved them so much so of course when I was 10 I recieved my first copy! I remember Tacy being my "favorite" and those books have always had a special place in my heart. I knew the MINUTE I picked her up her name would be Taycie... I did modify the spelling slightly only because that's what moms do!... But her name fits her and she is a doll! |
I had a list of about umm 20 names for Nala.. Growing up and even to this day Lion King was my all time favorite movie and since Nala was the female lion (Simba's girlfriend) name I just decided to name her Nala.. I like the way Nala Nicole sounds so thats how she got her first and middle name |
We got Couver and had no idea what we were going to name him. One night, we were hanging out with some friends and they brought up the fact that my DH is from Vancouver, B.C. (but we live in WA) and that we should call him 'Couver' short for Vancouver. I liked it and thought it was unique, but would be easy for people to say so it stuck! :) Before we got Khloe we searched for cute city names and could not think of any that meant anything to us... so we decided to go with a cutsey name and spell it a little differently. We decided on Khloe Mae after talking about it for days. |
Mines name is Jenny. Have no idea how she got it, as she had the name when I adopted her. Fits her well tho. |

Rizzo reminded me of a muppet, so I started looking up muppet names and Rizzo was the little "Jersey-Italian" rat with an "attitude" lol, so it worked for me because I wanted him to have an Italian name for my landlords family's sake. Plus my favorite cafe near work is "Cafe Rizzo" :D actually didn't notice until after I named him, but I figure I might have to aquire one of their cups before I leave Italy. |
I named my first one Milou form the Belgian cartoon Ten Ten and his dog Milou I named my second one Jean because from the day she came home she was always scratching her nails on my jeans. Off course if I new from the beginning that I would have to Yorkies, I would have named the one Gin and the other Tonic or the one French and the other Fries Maria |
Our girls are all named after major league baseball fields: Crosley Wrigley Camden :) |
Lexi, I got from the internet, I just searched dog names and baby names. I also liked it because I like the girl on greys anatomy who plays "lexi" Except I dont know, but i spell it with an "I" at the end. Almost called her pebbles LOL |
Arabella Lilliana When I lived in Montreal I would watch The Road To Avonlea, there was an episode that had one of the sisters come home, you guessed it her name was Arabella. The name stuck with me, I don't know it is a good old fashioned name that you just don't hear now a days. Well, 14 years later I decided to get a Yorkie and instantly knew what her name was going to be. My daughter came up with the middle name. She was looking through Italian baby names and came up with Lilliana. It just flows together nicely. Plus, Bella knows that if mommy uses the full name she'd better start using the "I'm sorry and I Love You" face. |
I had lots of names picked out for my little guy but didn't choose any before getting him. I still hadn't decided on a name on my way home with him in the car. I was thinking if he was a girl I would have named him Tiffany because of all the things I bought for him before bringing him home. Then I got to thinking of expensive cars and Bentley came to mind like a light bulb going off. So, my handsome boy's name is Bentley!! |
My male Maltese was a Christmas gift from my husband so we named him Casey Kringle. So when we brought home a little girl Yorkie puppy we decide to stick with a C names. I wanted to name her Charm and no one liked it and I couldn't come up with anything that fit her. She went a week with no name and in the middle of the night my husband woke me and said Chloe and it fit her perfectly. When I got my second Yorkie pup I again wanted to name her Charm and got vetoed again. Again it took about a week when sister suggested Claire and I loved that name and my granddaughter added the bear after Care Bears, so she became Claire Bear. When I got my 3rd Yorkie I was firm and put my foot down and said 3's a Charm and that is her name. She is a little Charmer and it fits her personality. |
In our family, it is tradition for my husband to name our dogs. He takes his job very seriously and always comes up with names that we love. He named our first dog 'Keesu'. She was a Shih-Tsu and Keeshond mix so her name was created from her breed. Kee-su Then he named Skye after the Greek word for 'dog' which is 'Skylos'. When we adopted Milli, she was SO TINY. So, he decided to call her Milli as in the 'millimeter'. Her middle name is Jewel - after the actress Jewel Staite. |
Great stories everyone . I guess I never really explained why Hannah named Our Yorkie Daisy when Hannah and her friend Ollie were in the hospital , they seemed to be the 2 that spent the most time there they both love Thomas the train and would spend hours playing trains together ,at night Ollie and his mom would usually come for a visit before bedtime Ollie would climb into bed with Hannah and they would snuggle and watch a Thomas movie. When Ollie got Rosie Hannah , decided that is what she wanted for her wish too , and follow suite and Named her Daisy. |
Great idea for a thread! My husband loves to choose names but from what I understand he found the most ridiculous names when he had pets in earlier years. So when we got our fur baby I was quite concerned with his suggestions. I had a long list of names but finally settled for "Merlin". Hubby didn't like it at first but when my girlfriends all were on my side he agreed and now he thinks I chose well....as always, just takes him some time to realize it ;) |
Beamer had his name when we got him. The breeder's son had a BMW and he named him Beamer. As he a year old when I got him I kept his name as Beamer. (And he is as close to a BMW as I'll get LOL) With Lil Bit, she was a puppy and were thinking of names for her. I had none in mind. The name has to fit the puppy, and I knew her name would come to me. Then I decided on "Bonnie Blue", and my husband said she is just a Little Bit, so then and there and ever since she has been "Lil Bit" |
DH is a big Snoopy (from Peanuts) fan, and when I was thinking about getting a puppy, DD thought that naming a puppy Snoopy would help convince DH that a puppy would be a good idea. It worked, and now DH and Snoopy are inseparable. :p |
Simple There is no city greater or more fast pace (like me) then NEW YORK CITY! So Brooklynn was perfect and her last name Kouture was because i consider myself to be very fashionable ( and i thought it look cooler with a K LOL! |
