Yappy Ankle Biters!!!! I am sooo annoyed  The moment i tell people i have a furbaby who is a yorkshire terrier they start to LAUGH, which is bad enough, but they roll their eyes and say '' little ankle biters'' or they say '' oh their really yappy dogs'' or they even come out with '' ugh the ones who look like little rats''!! Its annoying and upsetting to have people say this about my baby. I find it very rude! Its normally the male drivers at work who make these comments but even a few girls at work say they same thing! Its upsetting! I wouldnt make comments like this about their dogs or children!!! :thumbdown So after calling my baby insulting names the continute to tell me ''oh please dont dress it up in little clothes thats animal crulty'' Or they say '' oh your not going to carry it around in your hand bag are you thats terrible'' They ASK me is she spoilt and of course i say yes because she is. They then ask me to list the things i've got her (why shouldnt i buy her nice things even if they are pink) and they mock me even more laughing at the fact she has a pink collar and pink carrier and pink hair bows and a big pink piglet toy. Shes a girl she need her pink like her mummy does! I feel like i am a bad person for picking breed like a yorkie and wanting to put her in pink lovely dresses and pink collars and harness and having ALOT of pink accessories for her. I made sure i have EVERYTHING i need for her and i bought her the best puppy insurance. Does this make me like a paris hilton type of person? I did not get Poppy because of these reasons i got her because i wanted her but these little things and accessories are the perks of having a girl yorkie which i love! SHE IS NOT MY FASHION AACCESSORY She is my baby and i want to spoil her. She is not a yappy dog, and she is not a little ankle biter (just a toe biter:p) and she does NOT look like a rat!!! Does anyone else get these nasty nasty horrible comments off people? They are really upsetting me! :( xxxxx |
Just let it roll right off. That's what I do. |
Yes I have but you just have to ignore them. Yorkie owners are a breed of their own and march to a different drummer |
Natasha Just feel sorry for them. They just have no idea what they are missing. Yorkies are super special furbabies and deserve the best. If they were suitable enough to be Yorkie owners they wouldn't be saying such things, but it is obvious a Yorkie has never chosen one of them to adopt. |
Blow off their comments. They obviously have never had the pleasure of knowing a really great yorkie. My dh fought me for years about getting one because of the "yappy" fru-fru dog image he had in his mind. I persisted though. Now he's the first to tell everyone about how cool Rhett is. He calls him "little dude" all the time. He's about the last guy you would think would like a yorkie in clothes, but I showed him FL Tink's pics of the NFL jerseys and his first response was "order it!" |
I know i should its just its people t my work and i feel like i cant even mention Poppy name without them jumping on the fact she is a yappy dog etc. I am excited about my Puppy Poppy so i want to talk about her and share the amazing things she does but they wont let me which is such a shame for me :( Some people are just really rude i guess xxxx |
Not yet, I usually get "I hope you didn't pay a lot of money for that little dog" and I always say "I didn't pay enough :D" but so far the people I'm friends with are huge animal lovers and think the dog reflects the owner. As long as your puppy makes you happy, then just let them be jealous, because we all know they are :D Who wouldn't be, just look at these little yorkie faces :D |

(People who are jealous can be rude, and they are probably jealous that you have Poppy and they don't:)) |

Haha yes i never thought about the fact a yorkie has never picked them. :D Guess i am one very lucky lady that Poppy picked me :D xxxx |

don't listen to the negative knuckle-heads....We also have 2 shelties and they BARK and YAP at everything worse than my Piper, just ignore these people, they seem to fall into the same category as the people who just don't understand how special all our furry creatures are. Look at it this way, our dogs are better off not being owned by any of these negative people....it's true these dogs pick us. They are our owners :D |
I would say oh no I have trained them to go for the balls. I think that may stop the comments at least from the men. |
They are just ignorant people who misses out on having something so precious and loving. They will never know that the love of a yorkie so unconditional that you cannot help but return the sentiment with everything you got. You should feel sorry for them for missing out on such great treasures. By commenting on something they don't understand, they don't deserve to have such a gift in their lives. We are the lucky ones!!! |
Just say" "You are absolutely right, dear!" With a very sweet and knowing smile. It'll shut them up. I bet you my 5 against your 1 that if you would have the opportunity to take Poppy to work with you they would all fall all over themselves with "how cute" "how adorable" and so on... :D |
I agree, just roll them off. Im a guy in the Marine Corps and i want one:), just imagine the comments:thumbdown. |

My dh had a Yorkie when we met. He raised her all alone from a puppy and he is NOT a softy but one of the most brilliant scientists in the world and oh so macho macho... |

Thank you for your service:):) |
I always get " they are yappy, right?" Um, No. But I do think they look like rats. Especially after a bath. I have to say that most people say "awww look at that dog, it's so cute". |

i think yorkie looks more like cat than rats lol and i always thought pom pom and chihuahua are more yappy lol my little one was ugly (well i thought he was ugly), but then he grew up, turned out to be a beautiful hairy boy, lol it's your dog, your baby, who cares what other ppl think |

Thanks for your service also! :) |
I know what you mean. Alot of people (usually men) say that they are yappy dogs or that they look like rats. And some people I know will laugh at me when I dress Poppy up or have her in her carrier. I dont care, my baby is happy and so am I so everyone who wants to make snide comments can go play with traffic. :D |
I've gotten some comments, as others have said, ignore the negative ones. I had a co-worker tell me a while ago that I had a "sissy" dog. Yes, I was really upset, but after considering the source (and reading the replies from yt) I decided it was not worth the energy. Just last night at work a co-worker (different one) asked me if I had a stroller for Prince. She said it as if it were a joke. I said not yet, but am seriously thinking about it. I told that yorkies are so little, they tire easily, and since Prince has CT, he's not able to walk long distances. She said that she never thought that...she thought people who would put a dog in a stroller were "a little over the top." |
We have this macho guy at work that used to make jokes about small dogs. However, his wife and daughter insisted on buying a chi and he was outvoted. He complained and complained at the beginning and said things like he will go around with a sign that says the dog is not his. However, he admits now that he is putty against the dog. He loves it to pieces and she has him wrapped around her little paw. He buys her cute dresses and jewelry and take her everywhere to show her off. All this from a big, bald, macho guy! I agree with Mitzis Mom above that you just need to show them your precious baby and they will all fall in love. After all, yorkies are far cuter than chis....okay okay...I may be just a little bit biased :D |

check out mine :p |
I no longer stop and talk to people on the side walk cause I'm fed up with "oh he's suck a cute teacup!" that's another one that annoys me. You're right, I've heard the rat joke, and everyone ASSUMES that because Harley has long hair that he's a girl.... I don't dress him and he doesn't wear bows... why do you assume he's a she! I've given up... I just ignore them all, and I've threatened my friends if they ever call him a "Rat" I'll sick my "ankle bitter on them" lol |
You're thinking of this all wrong. You should pity people like this, after all they don't know the love of a yorkie. They don't know what it feels like to have a friend that loves you so unconditionally and brings such joy to your life on a daily basis. Maybe someday if they are very lucky they will get that chance, but the chances are good that they will go their whole lives not knowing that joy. They deserve your pity, after all you know what they are missing, they don't. Just enjoy the gift you have been given, smile to yourself when they make these comments, you know the truth and so do we. Come and share all your stories with us, we want to hear them, and just forget those who don't get it. And by the way all girls should own pink. |

Thanks every one. I'm typing with one hand because Poppy is asleep on my chest with my arm around her, we are wrapped up in a blanket, i keep kissin her head shes soooo cute :) Thank you all for you responses. your ALL right i am very lucky to have her and that she picked me. I like to spoil her and have pink stuff for her because why not. Your all right they are probs jealous that no yorkie has picked them :D when shes able to after all her shots i will be taking her to show them all at work and i bet they'll love her to peices but come'on who wouldnt love her hehe. It is rude of them to call her names like rat etc but i guess some people dont have much thought on other peoples feelings. i understand some of u may think your yorkies look like rats but they were not saying it like you where, they where trying to take the micky out of her to be mean. guess i have the last laugh tho because i love her to bits an we are both happy. Gotta admit the pics of the wet yorkies did make me giggle cant wait to see Poppy look like that haha.... very cute. and to the macho males who posted.... thank you, its wonderful to hear that there are macho men out there who love yorkies, i think its fantastic. go you :D :D xxxxxxxx |
