Please put tags on your furbutts! On my way home this morning, my daughter and I ran across a very old basset mix female. She had a collar, no tags. We spent the last 2 hours walking our neighborhood with her trying to find her home. Finally, one of my neighbors said they 'thought' it might belong to another. We went to her house and they weren't home, but the gate was slightly open. The sweet girl walked right in and threw herself down on the grass! 99.9% sure we have the right place, I looked at my neighbors FB profile and there is a dog that looks just like her. Guess we'll see. The whole time I was walking, I was dreading needing to call animal control if we couldn't find her home. A small tag would have made things less stressful for both of us! I know a lot of people don't like collars on yorkies. But even a small break away cat collar with a name and # could make the difference between getting your dog back or not. *Steps off soap box* |
Thank you for escorting this little girl home safely!! I hope you left a note for the owners about their gate? |
Glad you found this girl and were able to take her home :) |
You did a great deed today! I wish my neighbors were like you. :) |
I have tags on Brandi that i bought from a local pet store and it fits right on her harness. Her harness is on 90% percent of the time because I am to lazy to put it on and take it off 3 times a day to walk her. So she almost always has her tags on. I don't think you really need a collar for tags. Brandi's tag is small with just her name and number on it and it doesn't bother her at all. My friend has a dog and I have been telling her to get a tag for her dog, while the dog is chipped, people who are non pet owners may not know to check for a chip. |
Thank goodness you didn't give up and got her home safely - what a good person you are! Agree completely with the tags - Rocco wears a leather collar and has ID tag and his rabies tag (with vet info) on 24/7. It's important to get them used to the collar and tags while they are still puppies. |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a pic of how I have Brandi's tag. As you can see from the pic the ring on the harness is big enough for me to attached her tag and her leash I don't have her rabies tags on just her id tags. |
That was very nice of you to help the dog. Many people just wouldn't bother. There were two dogs running loose in my neighborhood once and only one had a tag on the collar. I went to the address on the tag, but no one was home. So I put both dogs in the fence and made sure they had water. A couple weeks later I found out that only the dog with the tag belonged to them. Can't imagine what those people thought when they came home and found two dogs in their fence. :) |
Several years ago Bruce and I had been gone a while, when we came home there was a strange dog in the house. Was a little Silkie. Seems a little girl had seen it wandering down the street, thought it was our Yorkie, Penni, and she had her dad put it over our fence. And it got into the house through the doggie door. We did locate the owner, we called the humane society and gave them a description of the dog and said we would keep her until the owner was located, she wasn't wearing a collar or tags. The owner's husband showed up to pick her up - he said he wished she hadn't been found:mad::mad::mad: (His wife apparently was happy she had been found though) |
I don't generally have a collar/harness with their ID on my pups while at home...but just like a Visa card...."We don't leave home without it." I always have it on them when we travel...you never know what might happen. |
I dont leave the collars on all the time but if the front door is open for any reason even to get the mail the collars go on before the door gets opened either that or they get put in the gated living room i have a neighbor who hates me so im sure if mine got out i would not get then back with out paying a adoption fee but i still like to be prepared |
Thanks for the reminder! Levi wears his harness often (it has a small ID tag), and his harness plus his collar when we go out. His collar has another name tag, his rabies tag, etc. Everyone in my family thinks I'm crazy because Levi is frequently wearing two name tags! |
My boys wear their collars 24/7, except for bath time. Not only do they have hanging tags with their names, phone numbers, etc., we also have the collar tags that can't come off unless it is deliberate. I rigged up a lobster claw clip so I can attach the tags to their harness. Works great and can be purchased at Michael's for next to nothing!:D |
Aw your lovely for helping that dog. You should be very proud of yourself that u helped the doggie home. xxxx |
So glad you got this little girl home- she is so lucky you took the time to do that. I just got tags for my Keoki because we spend time at my moms in the country and I also got a breakaway collar- he looks so handsome- I would rather be safe than sorry and if it weren't for yt I would never have thought to keep a tag on him. It's posts like this that woke me up. |
