Grrrrrr  So I have a female that finished her heat cycle in early July , I have male that is 6 years old...well Dallas during her heat cycle would try and hump her and then once her cycle was over he would leave her alone and if get annoyed when she came around him, but again this week and last week we are noticing he is trying to hump her again, she is getting so annoyed w/ him that she now growls at him when he just looks at her....why would he all of a sudden be on her again like this...I mean he acts like he has no brains...She can't be in heat again right ? There is no blood ..her vuvla is there of course but I am not sure if it's swollen , I have noticed she eats more and is super lovey dovey .....what are your thoughts my fellow Yorkie Lovers? I thought maybe she was prego but her belly is normal size and by now she would be showing ... |
You need to have your female spayed and Dallas neutered. It could be a "dominance" thing with Dallas. |
...I know they need to be fixed so if anyone else responds save your fingers the typing .....Thank you for the insight but he is acting really insane for it to be dominance , but time will tell. |
Maybe this is just one of the problems you get with intact dogs. |

Ya know it's hard to read if there is sarcasm in this replies , I certainly hope not I thought this was a great site to turn to for helpful advice ...However since you want to judge let me help you judge even more,.. when I can financially take on the expence I will...you dont know my hardships so before you judge think twice....these are my babies I love them as much as my children ...came to the site today to see if anyone else had experienced this not be lectured b/c I thought this is what the site was for as it has been a great resource in the past for me ..Dallas hasn't been fixed b/c he has other health issues and the Vet warned against it ..and Philly will be fixed ...but again when I can take on the financial expence .. |

Is there a low cost spay and neuter clinic in your area?? |
You know AGAIN ...this discussion is not what my post was about ..stick to the post or as my Mom used to say if you dont have anything nice to say dont say anything at all..... Just so you that care to judge know I am getting private messages from other Yorkie Owners saying they have experienced this but never posted anything b/c they were worried you " that judge " would rip them apart ..is that really the purpose of this site...Very Sad !! ..if you dont have anything helpful to respond ..other then get her fixed I would suggest you not respond ..save yourself some time and energy and give your " expert " opinion to someone else.Good grief !! |
Have you taken her to the vet for an examination to see if she is pregnant? If she is pregnant, you need to begin to prepare NOW. Don't wait until the pups are due to get yourself prepared for whelping the puppies. Your baby's life & the life of her puppies will depend on you. BTW, how big is your girl? |

Hi JDS , I appreciate your concern but she isn't pregnant there is no way , there were measures taken to ensure that didn't happen for many reasons number one her being just a baby ...but my precious Philly is about 6.5 pounds is what I would guess anyways she hasn't had to go to the Vet for about 4 months now since she is up on all her shots , Dallas is 4.4 and she is a bit bigger then him ..here is a thought ...maybe he has short man complex...he is trying to show her who is Boss..LOL How old is your baby or babies? |

I am sorry that you aren't getting the answers you were hoping for, but people are just giving you their honest opinion. |
Hey Furbutt ( Love the name ) I got Dallas and Philly both at 12 weeks , Dallas is almost 7 though and Philly Ann is almost a year now ... I appreciate your tone and your email comes across much nicer some people on this site are ready to bash you as soon as you post something and they find out your dogs aren't fixed ..man they jump you . I feel like I have to give a disclaimer if I post anything before my head gets biten off~ yikes! How old are your babies?or Baby? |
We're not trying to judge you. We're just saying that when you fix them, they won't have the issues that come with being intact. You won't have to deal with Philly having her TOTM or Dallas trying to mount her - when she goes into heat. If you can only handle getting one of them fixed, I would choose Philly first. If it were me. I know that the SPCA in my area offers a FREE spay/neuter clinic once a month. I would contact the one in your area and see if they offer the same. I've never had any issues like this as I've never had males and females together when they were intact. Mostly, because my animals have come from the SPCA before. Good luck and I hope you can find something that will help you. That, and you can stop being so defensive. The people that post that you need to get your pets fixed are just passionate and they care about the wellfare of the animals. Sometimes, a little blindly, with regards to the mother/father of the animal. As I said, good luck. I hope everything gets worked out and you're able to go back to having a happy life with both of your babies and not worry about Philly growling at Dallas or Dallas trying to mount Philly. |

I really dont think anyone is trying to come across like that, i think they are just trying to help you. My poppy is just 7weeks old a very small little baby. She is soooo cute tho :D She can be a little tinker at times but i am having fun with her at the moment trying to potty train her haha! I cant really help with your problem because i dont have two doggies just the one. Hope you get it sorted xxx |

Whether or not you think you took enough precautions with her during her heat cycle, you owe it to her to get checked. Even though you say she is a baby, she could have still gotten pregnant even if it was her first cycle. A successful tie only takes a few seconds. Diapers, crating and just watching them aren't enough to be absolutely certain they didn't tie. You say she's not showing, but she may not with a first litter until just before delivery, so don't let that be your only guide. As to why your male is still trying to go after her- she's peaked his interest. He's unneutered and has hormones flowing 24/7. He's gotten the idea from her previously being in heat that this is what he is SUPPOSED to do. Can't blame a boy for trying. . Even if you were to have him neutered now, chances are at 6 years old he's still going to try and mount everything around. The neutering will help, of course, but the habit is pretty ingrained. Sometimes it's a dominance thing, other times it's just pure stress relief. You can try removing him every time you see him starting, and redirect his energy on to something else. He's got to learn that it's not acceptable and if the behavior continues it will get him separated. Not sure if you've ever seen this link: Spay Virginia | A Project of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies Good luck. |
Thanks for all your insight , Philly is not pregnant and that wasn't the reason for this post ...of course Dallas is going to mount but the point to the post was he hasn't mounted in over 4 weeks so why now?...He is acting like she is in heat again ...maybe he is over jealous all of a sudden but something has triggered him to act this way again b/c he lost complete interest in her before ...yes I know I wouldn't have the problem if they were both fixed but they aren't so for now so some thoughts on why he would behaive this way would help ..... *** I am still getting private messages w/ folks saying sorry about the rudeness of some of the comments left to be "helpful" today so maybe you dont think your being rude and maybe you really aren't but the way it comes across isn't nice and if you didn't know when you respond in a post b/c people can't hear your tone you have to be careful how you word things...so maybe it was all innocent but w/ receiving 13 PM's today w/ people feeling I was being " judged" I dont feel I was being " defensive " at all ***** |

I frankly think you have been pretty rude too. However, as to your question, maybe there is a female in heat somewhere within a few miles of your home and Philly is just the lucky recipient of his affections. I'm serious when I say this just may be behaviour you are going to have to live with now. Not trying to be rude, just realistic. The dynamics between your dogs have changed now. |
I think you should get the dogs spayed/nuetered asap as well, but with that being said, boys will be boys..lol...And he is going to be relentless until your female is fixed; JMO of course =) |
Pot....meet kettle..... Rude begets rudeness |
A Big thank you to the private messages I keep getting about all the posts I received today ...Thank you for YOUR support :) Not going to post anymore b/c this has turned into something silly and I have better things to do but thanks for all the meaningful replies to this post and I hope you have a great night , going home to give my babies hugs and so so many kisses! |
Just a thought On another forum when someone was getting the responses they didn't want to hear they would always post "Thanks for the PM's supporting me" When in fact there were never any PM's. So, when someone posts they are getting many private messages saying how judgmental the people are on a forum, I take it with a grain of salt. |

LOL!! Seeing as you have been the only one to be rude...I can just imagine who they are:rolleyes: |
Yep Beamers Mom thats what I am doing ..LOL |
You know, I was going to leave this alone but when I saw this this morning, I just couldn't. You came on here, knowing FULL WELL that people would tell you that you need to get your dogs fixed. We've given resources and different ways to help and you've ignored them, saying that we're being judgemental and rude because it's not the advice that you want. Your female went into heat, your male noticed. Their dynamic as a 'couple of dogs' in your household has completely changed. He now KNOWS that she's a female and ready and nature has told him to, please, step up to the plate. This behavior isn't going to go away AT LEAST until after they're fixed. Then, he'll still probably try to hump her. It makes me very frustrated when people come on here saying, "Oh, I have to intact dogs and the male keeps trying to hump the female... How can I prevent it? Why are they acting differently?" And then they get mad when you answer their questions. This forum isn't about being judgemental. It's about being helpful and being honest. When you want lies, go find somewhere else to whine. We've heard enough. |
I said I am done with the conversation , guess you missed that post ..your insight is mute |

Umm so the Q is Humping > 4wks Why is this so? Let's start with an obvious: 1. Your female has gone into heat again. There is something called split heats, although usually not so close in timing ie : one month apart 2. Your male has smelled other females who are either close to heat or actually in heat. Most terriers have a good sense of smell and those smells can travel for miles. 3. Most females do NOT want to be humped by male dogs. The snarling, lip curling and growling, are their way of telling the males keep away. And the older the bitch gets the more likely and quickly she will respond this way. They are called bitches for a reason:) Your female is trying to teach this one to NOT hump me Nope noway don;t like it. And she won't stop until his behaviour changes. Nb: real life today story to elaborate: At training today, a full female who my full male has not seen for awhile was there. he adores this female, always has, looks like he always will. Our trainer said because Magic man was showing a lot of interest in her, oh she's going into heat Oct. After about 5-8 times of pulling my male away from her, I said well Ilona you might want to rethink when she is going into heat. Una the female, took exactly one or two sniffs at her butt, and then it was snap, snarl, and growl at Magic. Magic hadn't even started to hump her yet. But every chance he got, he did his old male thing of posturing. Gawd do they ever look fantastic when they do that. Chest out, head high, muscles bulging, testosterone roaring. By the end of the hour Magic just had to look at her, and her lip curled. This is a dog that could do serious damage to him, if she took it into her head to do. Did my boy care? Nope not one little old whit. 4. You need to train your dog not to hump your female. That means every time he goes to do so you interfere. Lure him away with a treat. Put him on a lead and tug him away. Discipline him when he does the humping business. Preferably interfere before it gets to a hump. just look at humping as any undesirable behaviour you want to curb/control. Then do the appropriate discipline. You've already got other advice about spaying. Some links that maybe will pan out for inexpensive spay/neuter clinics, so I truly hope you can avail yourself of some of the suggestions here. |
