I experienced the same thing not so long ago as I made my way to the gym. I arrived and was able to find a decent parking spot near some shade and sure enough there was a beautiful Yorkie inside the car parked next to me. The windows were rolled down about an inch but you could tell the poor little guy was in need of water & fresh air. I made sure to get the Lic. Plates & headed inside to tell the person at the front counter. It wasn't a big gym so the message was heard by all, turns out the owner had been inside for more than an hour. Things like these just sicken me! |
I saw on the news that when a man called 911 about a child left in the car, the police told him they are on the way but to break a window (far from child) in the mean time because they don't want the child to wait any longer than necessary. This should apply to dogs as well. I would love to break some people's window and stick them with the bill for replacement!!! |

Please don't get mad at me. This past Monday I had a puppy play date set with a friend that has a choc lab 12 yrs old, schitzu 10 yrs old and she just ended up with a Chiuawa (sp), 10 wks old. I stopped at the med. lab for a drug test for a job. Left my pup in the car, back windows down a little, and sun roof open part of the way, so what heat there would happen to be would rise. I ran in and asked how long, I also mentioned that I had one large glass of water and two cups of coffee waiting to come out. I also mentioned to the lab tech, I had my pup in the car. She got me right in. In and out in 5 to 8 minutes. If it had been 10 I would have left. All was alright. That is not what I normally do. |
Everyone knows how hot & humid it gets in S.E. Texas even in early spring. Imagine what a dumba$$ owner faced at our Spring Bark when it was announced that a Lab was locked up in a pickup...yup,police were called, animal control was already there with a booth. The truck was surrounded by very angry rescue people. The Lab spent time in the cool-down pool and got more Frosty paws than he could eat and the idiot left in handcuffs:D:thumbup: |
This happened to me about 3 weeks ago. My husband had to run in to our local Walmart for something. I stayed in the car as I wasn't feeling well. It was SO hot - in the low 90's. I heard a dog barking and barking, and finally went to see where it was coming from. There was a little dog in a mini van - ALL windows closed tight, except for the little vent window in the back. I couldn't even believe it. I went into the store to ask them to page the owner. They said they couldn't do that, and recommended calling the police, which I did. I had to provide them all of the vehicle information and they dispatched a cruiser immediately. I didn't stay around to see what happened. Why oh why, do people think it's ok to do this?!??!?!? |
I'm sorry but when I think about this it makes me sick- just a few weeks ago some people left their Maltese in a van while they had a picnic- it was so hot here- the dog died in the van- the man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. What is wrong with people? I would definitely call 911 if I saw anything like that- NY does not put up with it. Recently I was walking down the street here on a hot summers day and these people thought it was funny that their dogs feet were burning- I yelled " EXCUSE ME YOUR DOGS FEET ARE BURNING" they said" I know" and i said well do something or should i take your shoes off and make you walk barefoot- VERY LOUDLY- I'm sorry but I will always speak up for my furry friends- no matter what :) People don't realize dogs get heatstroke- very easily. |
I do feel sorry for people who go on vacations. There is not an easy solution to that one. I know for a fact that in some states it is illegal to leave your dog in the car. |
Shouldn't leave any pet in automoble for "any" reason. If I don't plan on taking mine in w/me then she stays home in AC. Also carry her when walking on anykind of pavement until we reach the store. |
