Recliner warning
 

After a long day out in the heat I was pooped when I got home. Had supper and sat down to rest with Wolfie for a nice evening in front of the tv. Our loveseat has a recliner on each end. I was sitting with my feet up and slightly back when Wolfie jumped down. He ran around behind the chair and into the back thru the lil gap. Something he has NEVER done. I sat up but didn't put the foot rest down when he screamed. My heart was in my throat when I jumped up and looked under. His lil head was stuck in a tiny area and if I had closed the foot rest...well we know what would have happened. I screamed for my husband and he ran in and grabbed the flashlight. To make a long story short... I had to cover his head and neck with Dawn, say a prayer and had to lift his body put his head down & force his neck thru a small one inch gap. I was afraid I would kill him but had to do something. After 15 minutes stuck in the chair as soon as I got him free he started running around like a wild child, as if nothing happened. He was never without oxygen, just stuck. I am so very thankful he is fine. I cried like a baby as I washed out all of the Dawn.

Please do not have your recliners opened out when your lil ones are out running around. In just a split second I thought his life was over and ours changed forever.

Another reminder of what these little ones can get in to. So glad Wolfie is ok.

Thank god everything is ok. I also have a love seat recliner would never even thought that could happen. I do always make sure before I put the foot rest down that no one is under it. Tell me what size is your dog? Maybe my guys are to big for that to happen. But my girl does have a small face, I better watch her.

OMG! My heart rate went up reading this... quick thinking with the soap... unbelievable what these little ones can do... glad all is well! He's so cute!

Wolfie is almost 20 weeks and I weighed him this morning. 3lbs on the nose.
And I thought raising kids was hard!! Yowsa : )

All those apparently not wasted hours watching "Rescue 911" and Animal Planet! I don't know what I would have done had I been home alone. I could not have held the chair up and gotten him out by myself.

They are like having a baby that never grows up. Always getting into trouble:eek: But mine are bigger then 3 lbs. a lot bigger.

oh my god I hate recliners. last year ago my mothers pug was playing with Gatsby and my dad had he foot rest up Gatsby who at the time weighed about 4 pounds run under the recliner and right out the other end Suzie (my moms pug) was at the time 14 pounds and she got under the chair but then she seemed to have gotten stuck she started to scream and my dad put the foot down on the chair to see what was wrong with her and she screamed louder then we realized that she was stuck under the chair my dad lifted it and she run right out
it was then we realized that her eye had been dislocated (it had popped out) she had to have her eye removed and it took months for her to recover she still is not the same

a few other things to watch out for
the gauzy covering on the bottom of furniture and box springs-it can get torn and when you baby is playing it can wrapped around there neck.-i remove it when i get the piece of furniture,but you could also just watch carefully and remove if it becomes damaged or repair the lineing.
computer and entertainment stand cords-can either be a strangulation hazard or if you have a chewer they can electrocute your baby-i put all cords in fish tube to avoid chewing and then zip tie them together so they are not a strangulation hazard

recliners are not safe for small dogs
 

My neighbor had that happen to her dog two years ago. the foot was put down when he was under it. He sreamed bloody murder. We took him to the vet and he said he was ok. Next day Amy come running over crying that Joey being nasty and biteing. The only way we could pick him up was to throw a towel over him.By the time we got back to the vets he was frothing at the mouth and throwing up and still trying to bite. They did xrays and said his skull was mashed into his brain at three different spots well to make a long story short Joey had to be put down.I do not use my recliner any more ,my four fur kids use it with them being small they can"t get it down. They lay on it all the time.

So glad Wolfie is okay.

Having had cats for many years, it's a known thing in our house as cats are notorius for climbing up into recliners.

Oh, I'm so glad he is okay. I've had a pillow shoved in the back of my recliner for about a year and a half. I know it looks dorky, but I didn't want my little ones to get under there either. My problem is the front now. I don't recline it, but my husband does a little. We just make sure we have a headcount before he closes it.

SO glad you posted this because all my chairs in my living room are recliners. Im about to tape those bad boys up with GOOD OLE DUCK TAPE!:D

Oh my, how scary!!! So glad he is ok!!

We have recliners, Mya used to go under them but she is too big now (thank goodness). I always do a headcount before closing them too, it's so easy for one of them to run under and me not know it!!! They are definitely dangerous, especially to those with smaller yorkies.. makes me glad mine are both now too big to crawl in, they can only go under.
