I agree the demand is there. People are seeking 'purse dogs', and a lot of people will pay a lot of money for one. I'm with Rachael on this one; as long as people will pay, breeders will price their pups at unrealistic prices; and it will have nothing to do with quality. Tiny scares me; 7 lbs. is still very small to me. People who aren't naive will see "$8,500, not including the potential vet bills associated with having a smaller dog that is more prone to accidents and may not be as healthy" IMO.

6 more days til the stitches come out. She hates the antibiotic so there is some trauma twice a day the poor thing. But her spirits are great and she hasn't touched the stitches. She is so good.

Small does not mean more money. Sorry, no reputable breeder would sell a tiny puppy. They are placed in qualified homes. In homes that are familiar in caring for a tiny and understanding that there maybe additional vet costs . No reputable breeder will sell heartache.

Apple heads, excuse me.......the eyes of these dogs and pups are very telling. The possibility of open fonts and hydrocephalic puppies is preveliant in pups such as this.

The entire website has red flags all over it. Advertising is done in such away to fool the unsuspecting/uneducated public out of their money.

I would love to know who would want a dog that little when grown? My new baby is 12 weeks and 2 lbs and he is very tiny. You have to be so careful not to hurt them. I have to watch my hubbies 9 lb Toy Fox Terrier to make sure she doesn't get to rough when they play! I can't wait til he is at least 6 pounds!

I didnt say that there wasnt a demand for them of course there is, I said in the post before yours that as long as there are people with more money then sense willing to pay these prices then these bad breeders will produce the pups.
What Im trying to say is that some people simply dont bother to do any kind of research on the breed, if they did they would be running for the hills from breeders like her.
And no I dont think her puppies are adorable either.. I think they look quite ill. Which is VERY sad.

I don't understand when you say that you are with Rachael on this one. Rachael (I believe) disagreed with my statement that I thought Starlight's yorkies were adorable. I don't think she disagreed with anything else I stated. I don't think she disagreed that there is a "Supply and Demand" for these types of puppies. I don't think she disagreed that there are people out there that are specifically looking for these types of dogs. I am by no means condoning this - I'm just stating the facts.

There are people out there with money and are looking for tiny, tiny, tiny yorkies. And.......there are breeders out there that breed for this specific tiny dog - for the people with the money - as a business - and not to better the breed. Supply and Demand.

Some of these did not look real and some looked like the ones a OK breeder use to advertise but hers was in the $2000. range some a little more but a lot

Your key word here is "reputable". We are not talking about reputable. I, however, do disagree with you that small is more money. Whether this should be or should not - is not the case. People out there are looking for tinies and are willing to pay for them. These so called breeders are not going to advertise that the tinies have health issues. They are just selling what is demanded - tinies.

Its insanity, and really very scary.
Poppy is 12 weeks old and 3.5lbs, I couldn't imagine a fully grown dog weighing the same :eek:
And people like her are cashing in on it, it's disgusting.
Some idiot will look at that and automatically think because it's more expensive that smaller is better .... YEH RIGHT :rolleyes:

So way back in her bloodline she had a champion GGGrandfather.
And just because the GGGrandfather was a champion doesn't mean diddly squat.

They sell their puppies between $2,000 and $3,000

So, $8,500 just because it has a GGGrandfather who was a champion is just plain outrageous.

She disagreed with thinking that they were cute on Starlight's websites. She disagreed with the principle on paying more simply because a dog is smaller. I understand that if there is a demand, someone will try to supply it. We all agree that it is a naive approach; to search for a companion based on it being tiny. But if someone wants to pay more for smaller, that is their choice. Not the choice I'd make, but whatever makes them happy.

Also about her breeding rights...
At the bottom of her page she says that all puppies are sold with limited registration (they are sold as pets NO breeding rights).
Yet on the same page she is selling breeding rights for $2,200???

Wow I thought Pixie was expensive at 2500. But she was spayed, her father was a Stardust champion and she was exactly what I was looking for, But that was my limit. I do think some of her yorkies are adorable but then I like the baby doll face even though it's not the standard. JMO

My Piper weighs the same as your Poppy and is the same age. I have to be honest, initially I really wanted a "teacup" even after doing my research but I realized it totally wasn't right and totally wasn't worth it. I'm so thankful I got Piper because I can't imagine having something smaller. We've had a couple mis-steps and I've been scared out of my mind we hurt her. If she were any smaller it would be a nightmare. Even when she is full grown, I'll still be able to tote her around in a doggie bag.

First of all, that made me fall off my chair I was laughing so hard. What's even funnier is that people buy those tiny puppies without knowing its a PINTO disguised as a Masarati!!!!! In a matter of time, BAM!

And no, I don't look at those pics and think, "oh how cute." If I may be completely honest my first thought was, "What's wrong with that puppy?"

Yep even yorkies who are 7lbs are still small :)
