VERY hyper puppy Hey folks - well, this is the first of MANY "help me" threads that I'm sure I'll be posting over the next week or so... I just got my baby girl today from the breeder. I brought her home at around 7pm - since then she has been running around and playing with her toys like a possessed dog! LOL (over 2 hours now) I know the breeder had her on a schedule of staying in a playpin, then she'd get out for an hour, then get put back in. I'm not sure if she's just hyper because she's not used to being in a new place, or because she's "free" and feels that it must be play time, or if it's something else. She also isn't letting me "love" on her. If I try to pet her she playfully "bites" at my hand, (to which I have to say "no"). I know I've only had her for 2 hours, but I'm really hoping that someone can give me advice (and hopefully reassure me that there's still hope that she'll be a calm loving dog eventually. LOL) Thanks for any posts to help. I'm a first time mom & this is my first puppy (if you couldn't already tell). :) |
LOL it's normal they calm down. Just have lots of patience! |
Congratulations. Sounds like she is just being a typical puppy. It sounds like she is adjusting well and already feeling comfortable with you. I would put her where ever you plan on keeping her when your not with her, like a crate or ex pen and let her calm down. You want to get her use to her sleeping area. As far as the nipping, some can be pretty nippy as puppies and what I did was, say No sternly and stop playing with her. She will settle in and have calmer periods. |
Congratulations on your new baby. You will so so enjoy her. Just like everything in life - it takes time. She will get used to her surroundings and in a few days you will see what her true personality is. I don't think you can tell yet. There is so much great information on this site - so you will get a lot of help with whatever questions you have. She is beautiful - congratulations again! |
Sounds normal to me, she will calm down, just make sure she doesn't get to worn out. You might want to get some nutri-cal, just incase she over does it and her blood sugar drops. Sometimes they can have problems with there blood sugar when there little. |
OMG - Y'all are brilliant! I put up a baby gate at the guest bathroom doorway and put her puppy pads on one side, and her food, bed, & toys on the other side. Then I put her in there. She "barked" a bit at first... but only for about 45 seconds. Now she's completely calm! :) Maybe she's just not used to having so much room to play & run around. Thank you so much already - please continue to have patience with me, as I will continue to have patience with her! :) Do you think I can take her for a walk tomorrow, or is it too soon? Also, do I put food with her tonight as well, or just water? LOVE YOU ALL!!! :) |
Hello and congrats on your new baby! How old is she? If she is not old enough that she has had all her shots, you'd best not take her for a walk yet...unless you hold her! You just have to be careful that she doesn't pick up any germs. Once she's completed her series of shots, she'll be good to go! Best wishes to you with your wild and crazy yorkie puppy! You'll find that she does calm down some when she is older, but that may take a while. Enjoy! |
I wouldn't take her out for walks yet because of Parvo. She needs to be fully vaccinated and 4 months old. I was so relieved when Milo finally became old enough to go on walks. We go out every day now and we both love it!! Congratulations on your new pup!!! |
I would wait until your new baby has had all her vaccines before taking her out on a walk. I am glad she has calmed down . She sounds like a very healthy little one. Congradulations :) |
Congrats on your new baby! she sound healthy and happy!!! I like to keep food and water available for them 24/7 :) |
Congratulations on your new fur baby girl. How old is she? What have you called her? xxx |

Before you do take her out for a walk if you don't have one already get a harness, don't walk with a collar as it could hurt her trachea. |

I want her to be able to go on walks and get fresh air. |
I just gently introduced Lulu to her harness...put it on & let her wear it for a short time, repeated this many times until Lulu wasn't picking at it anymore. Please be sure to wait until your puppy has had all vaccinations before taking her on a walk. How old is your baby? |
