Does anyone have any experience with Wee R Yorkies Her name is Sandy Grizzel, just wondering if anyone knows anything about her. Would love to hear from someone who has one of her pups. |
I don't have one of her pups but have seen them at the Southern California shows and they sure are pretty babies!! Good Luck on your search!! |
Have you asked this lady about the guarantee that she gives with her puppies? How long do you have to take the puppy to the vet for a well puppy check-up? If the vet finds that it's not a healthy puppy can you return the pup for a full refund? Would you have to take a replacement pup? Does she guarantee against hereditary and or congenital defects for at least one year, preferably two years? What is your recourse if the pup does develope such a defect? Is her kennel clean? Will she show you her dogs or does she want to meet you someplace to show you the pup (a big red flag)? More than breeding cute dogs you need to find a breeder who offers an excellent guarantee and will work with you and be there for you if you have questions or problems. |

I called this breeder about 3 years ago in my search for my first yorkie!! She simply stated if I did not have 2500.00 to 3000.00 to spend...she was not the breeder for me!! So with that statement I continued my search!! |
Thanks for the help, just checking things out. Still looking for a friend for Sofia, it's not very easy to find the right breeder and the right pup, but we'll keep looking. |

That's not something I would like to hear from a "reputable" breeder. It's like money was the only thing on her mind when you called.:thumbdown:thumbdown[/QUOTE] Sandy is a reputable show breeder and $2500-3000 is not out of the ball park for a show dog or a well bred dog in California. |

Also, I prefer a direct and upfront approach because if you don't have the money for the expected price then you are wasting not only the breeder's time, but your own as well. I'd personally rather know the price upfront, but that could be my businesswoman side talking. :D |
My sister, Lori, lives in California and didn't know where to begin to look for a Maltese, so she asked me to do some research for her. I only spoke to Sandy when I was trying to do initial screening of people for my sister. She was recommended to me for either a Yorkie or Maltese by a couple of people that I spoke to. I live in New York, so I didn't go with her to get her pup. Lori got her Maltese from Sandy almost six years ago. She was four months when she got her and has been healthy ever since. Lori was very anxious to get a puppy, since her Bichon had just passed away and her other Maltese seemed to be so lonely. I wasn't fully comfortable with the amount of research that I had done since it was so rushed, but Lori has been very happy with her little girl. I wish I could give you more details than I am now. I'm sure my sister would be happy to speak with you if you wanted to. She maintained some contact initially with Sandy, but I don't think it was for long. I hope you are able to find a healthy pup to help you and Sofia cope with the loss of your baby. |
I have personally been in Sandy's home and the smell alone would keep me from purchasing a dog from her. Also every dog that she showed me was filthy, even the champions. She new a week in advance that we were coming and still the dogs were dirty and it was quite obvious that they were terrified of her. I have never seen dogs cower from their own owners this way. They would roll on to there backs and act like they had been beaten. She had several that had been debarked and the males were kept in her garage, while the females were upstairs in her home. The whole house smelled so bad of urine that it burned your nose. We got out of there as soon as we could and my husband and I even changed in our garage and went directly to our showers. We just could not believe that anyone who showed her dogs would keep them like this. After talking to her we found out that she uses a handler and as soon as they are championed they are brought home to breed. These are not pets and do not get treated like pets at all. This woman was rude and I found it very uncomfortable to even be around her. This was not a loving environment for animals, I found it quiet horrifying. |
That sounds awful, and I'm really glad that you posted this. Since it was almost six years since my sister got her Maltese, things might have changed. Lori went to get her pup with a friend, so if there were many red flags there, I think her friend would have advised her not to get her pup. I don't think they loved Sandy's personality, but they were impressed with the pups. Lori's dog is beautiful and healthy, but she has a problem with tear staining. She asked for advice on how to deal with it, but I don't think she found it or Sandy very helpful. Sandy had kept my sister's dog to use as part of her breeding program, but changed her mind and sold her to my sister at 4 months. I have looked at the website, and it has not been updated in a long while. There used to be a nursery section that is no longer there. Lori never raves about Sandy, but she doesn't complain either. She will often mention things to me about one of her clients getting a Maltese much cheaper over the internet that seems to be fine, so I don't think she's fully onboard with trying to fully investigate a breeder and getting the healthiest puppy. Not knowing about puppy mills in the past, she still says she got a number of nice dogs from pet stores. Her Yorkiepoo Greta was given to her by her neighbor's son who bought her from a pet store and decided he couldn't keep it after 3 days. I was the one to push her to try to get a dog from a recommended, reputable breeder. All of this took place over a two week period, so there wasn't time to fully investigate things. Hearing what you have written, I would never go back to someone like her. I was wondering if she was even breeding sincc the website hasn't been changed in a long time. I read a little on a Maltese forum about her, but didn't find much written about her. |

I'm not one to say bad things about people. Mom taught me if you can't say anthing nice don't say anything at all. Well I did this for a while but, every time I hear of someone looking for a puppy in Socal, I feel guilty for not warning them about Sandy. Though I can't imagine anyone missing that smell. I'm surprised the neighbors havn't shut her down. This happened just this past summer, so it is pretty fresh insight. I would incourage anyone who doubts me, go there see for yourself. Bring a mask though, the smell is overwhelming. |
Hi Cathy, I saw your post and noticed that you're looking for a second baby in the CA area. I don't know where you are at in Ca but my husband and I purchased our Jack from Betty Arch almost 4 years ago in Northern Ca. He is the perfect little guy; however he doesn't have the straight hair but instead has more of a wool coat which I'm sure some of you have seen. She gave him to us at a discount because he didn’t exactly meet the show dog standards. He is nonetheless beautiful and solid. My husband and I have actually been looking into the possibility of maybe getting a baby sister for him. Can you tell me where you got your Sofia? She’s all around gorgeous! |

She gave him to us at a discount because he didn’t exactly meet the "show dog" standards. She is very knowledgeable and has been breeding Yorkies for 30 something years. To this day my husband and I will call her every now and then with questions or advice pertaining to the breed. Jack is nonetheless beautiful and solid. We have actually been looking into the possibility of maybe getting a baby sister for him, MAYBE. Only thing is she doesn’t breed very often so it’s kind of hit and miss. Can you tell me where you got your Sofia? She’s all around gorgeous! |

Hi Jacks mommy, Thank you for your compliments on my little Sofia. I'm sorry to tell you but Sofia's breeder does not breed anymore. Good luck with your search. If you like your breeder that much I would wait for her next litter. Talk to her maybe she will put you on her waiting list. Quote:

I can't see why anyone would doubt what you wrote. I have since then gathered information about breeders in California in case my sister decides to get another Maltese. My sister's little girl just turned seven, and luckily she is healthy, happy, and very well adjusted. All of what you described is really heartbreaking. I can imagine how awful you felt going there and seeing those babies treated and living like that. Thank you for sharing this and sparing others the heartbreak. |

Now this Sandy person does sound like a less than reputable breeder, but I seriously think some people's noses are just too sensitive. I can't imagine having a bunch of dogs in your house --- puppies with their occasional accidents --- regardless of how well you've cleaned up after them, the house not at least having some odor. I think a lot of people are "house blind" - meaning they don't notice their own house odors but smell it when they come into someone else's house. But dirty pups knowing someone is coming to see them is another thing. But things come up and maybe she didn't have time to bathe them. I know I was planning on bathing all my dogs today, ended up in the ER for 5 hours due to a kidney stone. So now I'm recouping laying in bed with the computer. The best laid plans... of course they all had baths (except one) last weekend, so it's not like they're "filthy" or something...I just love a freshly bathed and perfumed dog! The point is there is always more to the situation than initially meets the eye...though the dogs being afraid of her is quite an issue to be concerned about. A pup needing a bath would be the least of my concerns. |
I undertand what you mean about peoples noses being sensitive, but this was not just that. The floor of her kitchen and family room, which is tile, was sticky with urine. It was bad, not just a little. The dogs were not just dirty, they were filthy and smelled, but the worst was the fear. I know that if you raise your voice to some dogs they will roll over and act scared, but this was so bad they rolled over and peed on themselves, and she was not raising her voice. They tried to hide from her, no dog should react that why to their owner. And this was her Champion stud, he should have been very comfortable with her and just about anyone else. There were so many red flags, you could have painted the whole place red. Debarked females upstairs, the males in cages in the garage, dogs that had not been bathed in a while. Not wanting to show where the puppies our actually kept, not wanting to show any other puppies, always having only for sale a pup that she was keeping but changed her mind, so of course she or he is show quality. I have never heard of a breeder that only has show quality pups. This was not a nice person, and that showed in every aspect of this visit. I know people have off days, but this would have to have been an off several months. As for my nose being to sensitive, I have raise 5 human children, and I can tell you my nurseries with full diaper pails never smelled like this, yuk. My 20 year old son went with me and he does have a sensitive nose and stomach, he through up in her trash can in her front yard. He can't take any strong odors. I recommend anyone who has doubts go see for yourself, if you can get by the ruddiness on the phone. QUOTE=kjcmsw;3396720]Things are different now-a-days --- I would never assume someone would want me to come to their home to see a pup. Like it or not people have to be more careful these days. At least for people that work outside the home, you're setting yourself up to have all your dogs stolen or worse as soon as the person has cased your place and dogs. Now this Sandy person does sound like a less than reputable breeder, but I seriously think some people's noses are just too sensitive. For anyone in Southern CA interest in yorkie or maltese, I got Mocha from Cindy Landry and she's excellent, very patient with all my questions and always promptly answers them with very useful suggestions months and months after purchase. She's on the YTCA website or you can check out her site at Scruffy's toys Maltese Yorkshire Terriers Puppies Show Dogs |

I have purchased four of Sandy's pups (2 Yorkies and 2 Maltese) over the last 15 years and been in her home many times. The most recent in April of this year. Her home is IMMACULATE as far as I am concerned. I have been through her entire house and have seen nothing like you are describing. Sounds like sour grapes to me.You are obviously lying! I'll continue getting my pups and recommending her to everyone I know that is looking. |

All I have to say regarding this entire thread is caveat emptor, buyer beware. Everyone needs to do their OWN research and decide for themselves. |
So how can I find a good breeder? I've seen your posts. So how can I find a good yorkie breeder in my area? I've been looking but everyone seems to be very far from here. |
