Read the following http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-answered.html After you read this, read the Yorkshire Terrier Standard: YTCA.org After that, be prepared to spend another $500.00 in tests for your girls. The boy has to have these tests too. And be prepared to spend another $1,000 on whelping equipment and meds. Oh! and have another $2,000 in the bank for that unexpected emergency that may save your girl's and puppies lives. And last but, not least.....find a mentor. |

The 25lb rule is one that you should definitely follow. But, if you don't here are a couple more things to consider. #1 is the shape of the pelvic opening. If it's not wide enough for pups to pass through then a c-section is a given. #2 is the number of pups a small bitch conceives. If she is carrying a large litter, 5-7 pups, her uterus can rupture before she carries the pups to term and she'll die. What do you know about the bitch's history? If she came to you with breeding rights then most likely she came from a back yard breeder or puppymill. They usually breed large bitches who have large litters. The number of eggs ovulated is hereditary. Are you prepared to let you little girl die so you can have puppies. Do you want to pay $1000-$2000 for a c-section. Are you able to stay home 24/7 to supplement pups if needed and care for your bitch. I'd rethink this plan. |
