scammed out of a baby my wife and i are looking for a baby ... we were recently scammed out of 1200.00 dollars .. we contacted a lady over the internet she said she would send us a puppy if we sent her the money and we did nothing came .... we are a little bit wiser and a lot more carfull the only thing is she took all the money we had saved for the baby. its a shame what people will do for money.:fallen: |
So sorry to hear that happened to you. There are a lot of internet scammers out there. :( |
thanks.. yeah there are i hate to say it but they should all be put in jail for a long time ... its not just the financial but the emotional part you have to get over... we thought we would have a new yorkie but i guess we will have to wait |
If you are comfortable with it, you might want to put up a thread in the Breeder Review section detailing what happened. That way, if someone googles the name, your experience will come up and be a warning for them. |
Im sorry you were scammed. You have to be very careful if you buy over the internet. I hope you find your baby soon |
I'm really sorry what happen to you. That is just aweful. 1200$ is ALOT of money and to get nothing in return. I can just imagine how devastated you are. Please don't let this set you back because there are good breeders out there who won't take advantage of you. YOu need to build a relationship with your breeder first and make sure they are established. My Lola was a rehome but Zach came from a breeder. We talked back and forth for a month before I took him home. We got to know each other well and she was so helpful. She told me every detail about him and he was everything she said he was! She even gave me references from previous people who got puppies from her. We still talk very often and I send pictures of him to let her see how he is doing. It's true you buy your breeder first. It's so nice to have someone to email or call if you have a question about your new baby. My breeder even says she will take him back if for any reason EVER I can't keep him. That's a good breeder! |
Im sorry to hear that. There really are some horrible people out there who will do anything for money, and there are so many scams on the internet its hard to know who you can trust. Hope you find your perfect baby soon, have you tried rescue? |
havent tried rescue thats not a bad idea just have to sell it to my wife |
A lot of members here have a rescue yorkie :) Im sure they will be able to give you some more information on it! Good luck :D |

In the future, thoroughly research a breeder before committing to a purchase. Never pay the full price of the dog until it is in your hands. Breeders typically require a deposit of less than half the purchase price, usually a quarter of the price. |
already done.... no trace of this ladythe address she gave there is no building there the numbers are disconnected and cant find the origional post any longer |
I am so sorry that happened to you. :( I can't imagine how horrible you must feel. There are so many internet scams out there and I have gotten messages even on YT that have been scams. It's amazing what people will do. |
I'm so sorry you were scammed... My advice would be to never buy online. Purchase from a reputable breeder where you can visit her home and see both parents and the puppies. Also, rescues are great places to search for yorkies... There are a lot of dogs out there searching for homes :) |
So sorry to hear that happen to you...I too looked for my bella baby on the internet and seen all the scammers out there, same as you they wanted me to send my money and they would send me a puppy...I never would do that cause I wanted to see and pick out my baby and have my baby in my hands before they got my money...cause you don't know what kind of puppy they will send you or as you know if you will even get one...there are alot of breeders out there that breed for the money and not the health of the pup...I didn't want a so called teacup puppy that wasn't going to get over 3lbs thats a runt that will more than likely have a lot of health problems and won't live that long...my advice is find a good breeder that breeds standard Yorkies 4-7 lb or bigger go to him/her house visit with them get to know them see how they live and how well they care of there dogs...any good breeder will invite you over no problems and answer all you questions and than some...I drove 250 miles 4 hours just to see the puppies and see how she lived. I got luck that day and came home with my Bella baby...Bella was 10 weeks old when I got her she weighed 3.5 lbs and now she is 2 years old 8.6 lbs very very healthy :) girl. Hope this will help on you next search good luck! |

the name of the scammer if its her real name was amber johnson. we paid with a money order which i know we shouldnt have done but we did... she seemed very legit but like i said we are a little wiser... and will never buy anything off the internet again or from someone selling something off the internet. i think we are just going to have to put our hopes for a yorkie on hold for a while since most rescues want any where close to 450 per dog which i understand but just cant do right now |

If I were you I'd stick around and gather as much info as I can. Learn as much as you can, and educate yourself so that when the time is right you know exactly what to ask and what to look for. Who knows maybe you will find that yorkie on here. Even if you save a bit of money and put it away, or put a deposit on a pup. I found my yorkie on YT and I am so happy with him and I didn't pay a fortune for him, he was a year old and neutered right before he came to live with me. |

My little guy Vinnie was also adopted from the DC shelter (he was probably around 2 when I adopted him). The most recent addition to our family, Alex, was adopted from a local rescue group (Rescue Me - Yorkie Rescue: Rescue Me Yorkie Rescue). He has been through quite a few homes, but he's here to stay with us forever. |
Hi, I wasn't even looking for a yorkie but there he was. I adopted him 2 years ago from our local animal welfare. He cost me $150. He was on meds for ear infection, lyme disease, had 2 teeth removed, neutered and microchipped. Now that's a deal!!!! He was only 2years at the time. He is the love of my life. No one that meets him can resist him. He loves everyone. And when I tell them about how and where I got him they can not believe it. There are so many wonderful dogs just waiting for homes. So many people have had to give their pets for so many reasons. It couldn't hurt for you and your wife to start there while you save for a puppy.. but who knows you just may end up with the one that makes your home complete. |

Take your time and look around. Some rescues do have higher fees because they are spreading out the cost of the vetting for all of their rescues. Other members here have found their yorkies through the good old humane society and paid less than $100.00 in adoption fees, which included spaying/neutering. We've got a houseful of rescued yorkies between my mom and myself. They all came to us at under 4 months of age. We love them to pieces, and if we decide to add anymore, we will return to looking at rescues again (but maybe a slightly older dog 'cause all this potty training is killing us! LOL) As for the scammer, did you contact her over the internet at all? Any emails exchanged? If so, there are federal laws against what she has done. Even if she has closed down that email address, the authorities may be able to track her down through ISP addys. I know there are some online forms to fill out, maybe one of the other members here remembers the site off the top of their head. |
You really should consider adopting a yorkie from a rescue organization, i think all you have to pay is a small rehoming fee, not only is it less expensive but you are saving a life :) I am thinking of adopting one myself so my furbaby will have a sibling. |
Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home That is the website for reporting internet crime to the FBI. I saw a short piece on ET tonight where a celebrity is helping take small dogs from California pounds/shelters to Edmonton, Alberta CA. They've taken 300 so far. One was 2hrs from being PTS and was adopted by the private jet's pilot. Evidently there is a huge overflow of small, lap size dogs in California pounds and so they are being euthanized at a phenomenal rate, however there is a shortage of adoptable lap dogs available for adoption in areas of Canada. So, this lady uses her jet to gather up dogs in CA and transport them to Canada. Amazing that she sometimes gets these babies just before they are about to end their lives and takes to where they are wanted and given new chances. BTW, the celebrity that was helping was Kevin Costner, not my fave...but... |
We got Bentley from a resue. he was $350 which included all shots and neutering. That alone saved us over $500 from the vets because shots and a neuter are NOT cheap. We have never been happier and he is the most well rounded adjusted dog on earth. He's sweet, he's cute and he's well behaved. He loves all dogs and people and he just fits in whereever he goes. He's a wonderful pup so i'd save the money up again and when you have enough i'd go to www.petfinder.com and find me the perfect match!! :D |
That is such a sad story. When you are ready again, go to the breeder and do not pay until you see the puppy, fall in love and go home with it that same day. I am so sorry you had to go through this. You should spread her name around on the breeders' board, so others will know. |

scammed out of a baby I'm so sorry for what happened to you,but i to almost got scammed. I went on line as well not knowing you should never buy online. . I was speaking to a lady who said she was from africa from camaroo to be exact and she did not want any money for the puppy all she cared about was that the puppy was going to a good home. the only thing she would ask was for airfare because she wanted to know that the puppy was going to travel safely. I knew it was to good to be true but she had already sent me a picture and i had fallen inlove with her.the good thing was that, that same day i had gone to my friends house and told her about my new puppy i was getting. much to my surprise her husband told me he had seen a scam on 20/20 about people scamming from africa especially from camaroo. he also told me to never send anything western union because there was no way of tracing it back. so when i told them i was on to them and that i had reported them to the police they started threatning me telling me they had my info and they were going to kill me!! needless to say i will never ever do that again.:( |
Sorry you were ripped off, do not give cash until you have baby in your arms |
