Why did you choose yorkie ? I was just wondering & wanting to hear why everyone chose a Yorkie/Yorkie Mix ? Like was there a specific reason ? Share your stories. :-) |
I love terriers. Finally decided to go for the smallest of terriers. I had experience dogsitting for a Yorkie and loved the personality and appearance of the breed. |
My boyfriend bought her for me for my birthday :) |
Because they are cute and really sweet. And I think that yorkies are really fashionable! |
I've loved them for years. We had friends with some when I was younger and I thought they just had the coolest attitudes. But I had to wait until my youngest was old enough that I would feel comfortable having a delicate dog around- little did I know that my delicate little flower would think he's a Rottie with short legs :) |

Because when I got my first Yorkie, I was looking for a small dog. First breeder I checked out was a Yorkie Breeder (she lived close to me and was known all over town as "the dog lady"), she had advertised Yorkie puppies for sale. My husband and I went to see her (after calling first) and I fell in love with the little darlings, especially one who left her littermates to check me out. We visited regularly after that day until Penni was old enough to come home with us. The breeder and I became good friends until we returned to the USA. :yorkiesar |
Do you really believe that you are chosing a Yorkie? Bah Humbug... the Yorkie chooses you and they do it by teledogopathy... Everybody who has a Yorkie is a chosen one and can count their blessings to belong to such an elite bunch of crazy doggie owners... ;) |

I honestly didnt go out looking for a yorkie, Roxie just caught my eye. I always had shorter haired dogs, so this was a huge stretch for me..lol..But I am in love with the breed and forever a fan..lol.. |
i wanted a dog all my life but was never able to own one because my mother didn't want dogs in the house. that finally changed when i was in my early 20s but there were stipulations. the dog had to be very small, not shed and not be a frilly foofy poodle (per my father lol). my friend has two really cute yorkies so i looked into the breed and finally decided to get one. |

Our decision for a dog was based primarily on size and no shedding. My decision for a yorkie was based on aesthetics. My decision for Bailey was based on love at first sight. |
:)Ok I am dating myself, first fell in love with them when Green Acres was on. Who couldn't fall in love! But loved their cute expressions forever. My daughter who is now 10 had it set in her heart to have a Yorkie. So I set out on a search to find a healthy, happy and ready to love us baby. Someway somehow I find a lady about 3 hours from Omaha who raised them. SHE was showing us other liters when the one she had planned on keeping kept coming to us and refused to leave us alone. WELL it is true she chose us so we had to beg to adopt that one. SO that is how Bailey's Princess Mia of Prairierose came to become our family member. She has become my best friend when I travel (I know, she is my daughters) and brings me comfort in the hard times in addition to helping share in the happy times. And is so good with all of the family. We laugh at the cute things she does, such as killing Hidee Squirrel and chasing the squeekie tennis ball, stalking bugs and mugging everyone if they aren't watching. She has some real spring in those little paws!!! I can't imagine life without her and gee we have only had her 4 mos. can you imagine how over the top I will be in 6 more? AND no one wears a cute little dress like her either. Have a sherpa can travel. |

I had wanted a dog since I was 4, but my dad said no because we lived in a crowded apt. I had to get my "dog fix" from my friends and relatives dogs. So, when I was old enough I started researching breeds that did well in apt living. I had narrowed it down to Westies, yorkies, malteses, and another breed that sheds a lot. When I was 20 I started volunteering at the SPCA's animal shelter. Low and behold, I'm allergic to anything with fur. I focused on "hypoallergenic" dogs, and decided it would be between a maltese or a yorkie. Then I found YT. I read all the stories, saw all the pictures, and I was hooked. I'm still allergic to Kaji  but my allergic reaction is mild compared to how I get after grooming the shelter dogs. As long as Kaji is his silly self, I can put up with my allergies. |
When I was in elementary school (I'm now in my 20's) I really wanted a dog... so I went to the school library and went through a book of dog breeds to see what kind I like best and the Yorkie caught my attention (small,low-shed, and cute ;))--I really wanted one, but even back then could justify asking my parents to spend the amount of money that they cost. So it's always been in my heart to have one. Since I'm stil cheap to this day I waited until I found one for the right price for me, as well as from a reputable source. |
My neighbors had one and I adored it. I started researching and foundx the wizard of claws site and was just enamored with the pups on that site. My Husband didnt agree to one untill about a yr after that. I found a breeder and ended up getting 2 pups. I found yt shortly after getting my 1st |
I fell in love with their pointy ears and gold-ish color ♥ too cute! |
I have to say I fell in love with the yorkie breed based on aesthetics. I loved their small, compact build and beautiful coloring. I also had researched their personality, and liked the idea of a terrier. I searched for months before I found Couver, and fell completely in love with the breed. We then added Khloe to the family :) Don't think I'll ever own a different breed! |
After being together 19 years (married 16 of those ) DH FINALLY gave in and agreed we needed a dog. He picked out the yorkie because it didn't shed ( I would have agreed to anything at this point!) and also because our former SIL had one and he is adorable! Both my husband and myself are addicted to yorkies now and wish we had gotton one sooner!!! |
It's the way they look at you.... those eyes. |
I was a cat person. I had never had a dog in my entire life but I was always an animal lover. I fell in love with the breed when I started dog sitting my neighbor's yorkie. My neighbor travelled alot with her job and for some reason I was the only person she trusted with her yorkie. I guess she saw how I paid so much attention to my cat, she felt that I would do the same for her yorkie. Boy was she right. The first time I dog sat, Jasmine (my neighbor's yorkie) was wearing me out. My neighbor had bought all of her toys over and all Jasmine wanted to do was play. My the end of the week, I was thoroughly and completely head over heels in love with Jasmine. She had me wrap around her little paws. From that moment on, I guess you can say my neighbor and I sort of started sharing Jasmine. She knew that I would take good care of Jasmine and she started letting Jasmine spend the day with me even when she wasn't travelling. Well my neighbor moved away to another city and I missed Jasmine so much that I started searching for my own yorkie. I now have Brandi, she was 7 yrs old when I got her and she is now the love of life. I wish Brandi and Jasmine could of met each other. Maybe one day they will. I still do miss Jasmine very much but she is very well taken care of and I don't have to worry about her. It is true, they chose you. Brandi selected me to be her caretaker.....little stinker :p. |
I just am totally in love with their apperance and their sweetness.I think they are the prettiest dogs out there , I love everything about my babies and I love how different the breed can be , My sister's Yorkie is 11 pounds and mine are both under 5 pounds . They are the sweetest dogs and so darn smart. I love how small they are , they dont shed , they aren't barky lap dogs ( at least mine aren't ) and they are great little companions ...I have always been in love with the breed since like another person said Green Acres and then my neighbor had one and I just couldn't wait to have one to spoil...and now we have 2 :) I dont dress mine or carry them around to show them off , but I love them and adore everyday I have w/ them :animal36 They are one of the biggest joys in my life |
After watching a dog show on TV and looking at how they strut their stuff on the floor. That little dog looked like it could take on the biggest dog their. And the hair..... I wish mine looked half as good.:D |
I always thought that they were cute little dogs. I got mine from a friend who I used to show horses with who had one male and one female (both registered) that she bred. She turned out to be even more amazing than I thought she would and now I am hooked and want another one! |
I just went to "look" at a litter of Yorkie babies, Maddie chose me. |
They should never be considered a fashion item. I fell in love with their looks & everything about them. They have been my favourite dog since I was 6, because I saw a show about them. I LOVE THE EYES. They make my heart melt.:aimeeyork |
I've painted portraits of them for years and heard many many loving stories from people who were owned by them.:) I've looked into the beautiful eyes of this breed and decided it was the right fit for me after my little Maltese Holly passed away. I now have 3 Yorkie Chloe, Claire Bear, and Baby I've had her for 5 days and still can't come up with a name. I thought Charm because 3 a Charm. |

Carly, Carrie, Cassie(Cassidy), Cadence, Candy, Caitlyn(Catie), Cameron, Caylie, Cali, Crista, Crystal, Charm, Cammy, Corine. :-) these are some 'C' names I thought of. Do you still do painting ? |
My Aunt had one years ago and I thought she was the most adorable little dog. So, I had wanted a yorkie ever since then. I just LOVE Jasmine. She is so very precious, loves to cuddle, so sweet and full of energy. Prissy, my poodle, is smarter, but Jasmine loves me the most, that makes her SPECIAL in my book and I make sure she knows it. |
