Fabric vs Leather Couch? Just wondering what you have or what you like better? We are trying to decide what to get when we replace our current fabric couch. We are worried about scratching as our dogs are allowed on the furniture, but would love the no smell that fabric likes to hold onto....... |
Dogs = leather. We've had leather for years...no smells, easy to clean, doesn't scratch, toenails don't go through...love it! :thumbup: |
Bump. I'd like to see what others say. I've had leather seats in one of my cars. I hate how sticky they get when it's warm. Do leather couches do the same thing? |

We have leather too. No scratches on ours either. Mine is black if it makes a difference. I plan to stick with the leather having 3 dogs and 2 kids it just cleans up nicely and makes my life easier. |
Leather here also. The cats have put a few marks on it but the dogs don't. |
stupid question. Almost 40yrs ago I had a beautiful leather easy chair. It wasn't very old when it began to crack etc... Back then it seems that leather needed to be continually treated, kept lubricated etc... Does leather still have to specially treated? |
Love my leather couch. I have a yellow lab and she sheds like crazy...it's nice to be able to just use a swiffer duster on the couch and be rid of the dog hair....the old fabric couch was a mess because she would jump up on it and sleep at night and her coarse little hairs would weave themselves INTO the fabric, so the lint roller and vacuum wouldn't work. Also, if you get a softer, distressed looking leather, you won't stick to it...just the smooth shiny kind of leather. |

Is leather more expensive? If things work out well for us, Kaji and I will be moving into a house by the end of the year. I want to foster, so the easy cleaning of leather is appealing. BUT, I have to honestly say, I'm not a huge fan of how leather feels. Are there no pros to fabric couches? I was thinking washable sofa covers. Maybe? |
Yea leather is more expensive but I do think it lasts longer and is way easier to keep clean and not smelly. My Mom has had her leather living room set for over 10 yrs and it looks fabulous. It came from Lazyboy. You can always throw something on a leather couch if you don't like the feel of it but not with the microfiber one I just got. Like I said, wish I would have put the money into the leather. I will next time. And I have noticed when people post pictures here - a lot of them have leather. :thumbup: |
I LOVE leather; have one leather sectional in the living room and another in the family room. Perfect for dogs. Keep pets nails trimmed & filed and scratching won't be a problem. There are different grades of leather, but all are better than fabric and so easy to clean. |
I would say that leather is more practical because it's easer to clean, but I prefer fabric for comfort :) |
