Is it all about the money??? Took my 3 babies to vet to get their shots. They are a little over 1 yr. old. I told them no lepto and they said it was fine. I told them I would prefer to wait 3 yrs. for next dose of shots. Vet said that was fine. She told me they give the 3 yr. rabie shots but, by law they have to have it yearly. I know the vets don't make these laws and they have to do what they are told to do.It just agravates me to no end when its good for 3 yrs. Just venting:rolleyes: |
It must be all about the money because Tennessee Law does not require annual boosters on Rabies vaccinations from what I have read. TENNESSEE Rabies Laws-My Letter to Governor & Attorney General - Dog Chat - Dog Forums - I-Love-Dogs.com |
Here in Michigan the 3 year is good for 3 years no need to get an annual booster. |

I guess it leaves a loophole for counties and cities to have a requirement for annual boosters, but the state itself does not require annual vaccination. |
My dogs get the 3 year shot and get it every 3 years. If my vet was saying otherwise, I would go elsewhere! |
Don't forget some states have more of a problem with rabies than other states. It does seem like yorkies shouldn't have to follow the same laws as outside working dogs, but they do. |
You only need the 3 year rabies here in Georgia. Are you sure you heard your vet right?? I would ask again. |
I have a question: All my family is in Canada and so we have and will be traveling there at least once to twice per year. I know I need to have a copy of my rabies certificate...does anyone know: does your certificate show if your dog was vacinated for rabies with a 3 year shot? And if so, do you think that is sufficient, or is it better to vaccinate yearly for the purposes of traveling. I don't recall ever seeing that Canada required a yearly vaccination, just that they required a current vaccination. (That doesn't mean yearly, does it?) |
In Michigan..a puppy gets it's first rabies shot at 4 months...and by law...it is only good for one year. They must get a booster after one year, and THEN they are good for 3 years. Could that be the case with your three...since they have only had the rabies vaccine as a puppy? |

It may be at the discretion of the county. So your vet is probably right. I'd be upset too though. With at least one company, the 1 year and 3 year are the same. So if your vet uses that vaccine, they could use it for either. It's all a bit ridiculous. The vaccine is good for at least 3 years no matter if a dog is at high risk or not. Makes no sense to me. |
hi in nj if its a 3 year rabbies its good for 3 years if i recall the 1st rabbies shot is only good for one year, then after that they are given the 3 year rabbies shot, I have my dogs go to the vet 2x a yea for ck ups and of course if they are sick or need the vet but my dogs get titers not boosters, its much better for the dog and i think most states accept this the same as if they had the booster. |
i know all vets in our county require a yearly rabies shot.......so i just dont take mine in but every 3 years....lol............they are not outside dogs......and go no where that has strays.........so i feel im fine. |
