Welcome to Yorkie Talk newyorkiemom! :) I'm so glad you've joined us! It sounds like you are doing a great job nursing your little one back to health. This forum has SO much information, it's crazy! I find myself reading back through the archives a lot! We'd love to see pictures of your Yorkie, too! |
If Yorkie Puppy Won't Eat I know this sounds gross, but mine ate Mighty Dog beef flavor in the pouch. They love it, and he would eat nothing else. Eventually I added the good dry food and now he eats Wellness dry food exclusively. :aimeeyork |
This sounds really scary!! Two things: First, do you think its possible that this pup isn't 9 weeks old but younger and is traumatized to leave the litter? She still should be eating, but my point is, when they're that young they really need a lot of cuddling and warm snuggling. Bo came to me at 6 weeks, was a happy little guy, but loved to snuggle! I would wrap him in a Turbi-twist and he'd lay snug and warm for long stretches perfectly content. They will sleep curled up in a ball the first weeks. This seems like a pup that you're going to have to devote some quality time to. Second, if your vet is not familiar with the needs of toy dogs, SWITCH VETS!! I've seen too many posts on here of loving owners who have watched their babies crash with hypoglycemia. Good luck, your baby will be in our prayers. Bo sends puppy kisses!! :aimeeyork :kiss2: |
Thank you Aimee for the welcome. I have always had poodles until now (I still have a 6 yr. old one named Hershey), but I absolutely LOVE Tinkerbelle. She is just like a baby. I love Yorkietalk because I don't know a whole lot about Yorkies, but I am learning every day! She seems to be on the mend. Thank Goodness... I will post a picture of her later today. (I have to figure out how to :( ). |
Thank you fasteddie for the welcome. I don't think the broth is too salty. It is from the chicken I boiled. I did not add any salt. If you look at the broth it is almost clear with a little fat. I do wonder how long boiled chicken can stay in the refrigerator? I may need to boil it 2x a week. Since she is so little she doesn't eat very much at a time. I do have a question for anyone that may know.... Tinkerbelle shakes quite a bit. She has done this since we first looked at her. Then we thought she was just scared. Now almost two weeks later, she still does this. Are Yorkies naturally nervous? It can be as quiet as a mouse with no one else around and she still shakes. I do not think it is nearly as often as at first though. The breeder said maybe it low blood sugar, but I don't agree with that, especially since some of the time she has just eaten or within the hour. She definately isn't a chicken either. She barks at the black lab behind our house (and a fence) like she is going to eat him up. She really doesn't know her true size! Thanks for the help! |
Welcome Clemantine and newyorkiemom!! Sorry your babies aren't feeling well. It does take a little time for them to adjust and settle in. I barely let Toto leave my arms for days when she first came home with us! I also found that it takes a great deal of time and committment. You will find as you go along, all the little timesaving tricks you can come up with! When they are picky eaters ... there's lots of little tidbits that you can freeze and offer them without a lot of timeconsuming preparation for every meal! I would also take out little portions for Toto of pasta, turkey, potato, etc. that I would be cooking for us ... before any seasoning is added. You can spread it on a cookie sheet and when it is frozen, break it up and put it in zip loc bags and just take out little bits at the time! Also, fresh broth can be frozen in those tiny ice cube trays and kept in zip locs in the freezer! There's lots of things that Toto loves straight from the freezer ... sweet potato, apple, baked potato, etc. Good luck and do keep us updated on these sweet babies!! :lovewings |
Pictures of Tinkerbelle 2 Attachment(s) Here are two pictures of my Tinkerbelle. She is more like a Stinkerbelle! |
