| Please help me with Yorkie ID... Hello, I recently bought a yorkie puppy for my wife- she is a very energetic lovable dog named Tanny. However, i am new to yorkies and dont know much about them and ive started to notice that our yorkie doesnt really look like a lot of yorkie puppy pics on the internet. And to make matters worse, i ran across an article describing how yorkie-chiuaua mixes are being scammed as pure yorkies. I'm now not sure if ours is pure or not and its driving me crazy. Either way, we will love Tanny the same- I would just like to know. HEres some pictures- what do you think? Thanks! |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Hi and welcome to YT, from a former "Tulsan"! Tanny is adorable! You're in love with her, so I wouldn't worry now about whether or not she is a mix. If it is really driving you crazy, then get the DNA test kit as PenniesMom suggested.

| Tanny is adorable. She looks like a Yorkie to me. If you love her it doesn't matter if she is mixed or not.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | She's adorable no matter what her DNA says. There can be a wide variation in appearances due to not breeding to standard. But I understand your curiosity; no one wants to be sold one thing when it's really something else. Do the DNA test ( you can also find kits online) if it makes you feel better or to make you more prepared for future possible health concerns. In the mean time, give her a hug because she is adorable.

| She looks all yorkie to me. It seems her coat is breaking it's color already, which made Addie's hair look sparse for awhile. Tanny looks like she's a little long in the nose department, which is like my Dany. DNA testing will tell you what she is, I have friends who have used them.

But I wouldn't get a DNA test kit. I had a friend (well a couple, but this is a particular story) who KNEW she had a Longhaired Chihuahua. She does shows with her, her lines are great, she is from the best of the best! Yet, a DNA kit said she was GSD/Chihuahua/Basset. But i have quite a few people who tell me about these DNA kit rip offs. Especially ones you can just buy off the shelfs. | |

| Hey thanks all for the response. Tanny is about 12 weeks old and 3 lbs. Like I mentioned, we love her very much and will continue to do so regardless if she is a mix or not- but most of you sound very confident she is pure, so thanks. The main issue that was driving me crazy is that after we got Tanny I began suspecting that maybe she could have came from a puppy mill or been in the middle of a sham. The breeders was very nice and sincere over the phone, offering me the chance to see the parents and get copies of their papers. But a few days later when i was going to see the puppies, she called and said there was a family emergency and she was leaving the puppies with a friend for a bit while she took care of things. So I never saw the parents, or the breeders kennel. This is my first time doing this , so at the time I wasnt really aware of puppy mills and breeding fraud- so thats why I am looking for a second opinion. I'm not sure i want to go as far as a DNA test, I am just wanting to be sure so I can be aware of any health issues, and if there was a puppy mill or fraud involved, contact the authorities to shut it down. Tanny is in my lap right now- I'll give her a hug for you all... |
