I just can't even comprehend that kind of reasoning:mad::confused: Someone needs to step up and say something. I wouldn't care if they were offended or not. I'm offended by what they're saying. |
Is this legal? |
I think some Vets will put a dog down for any reason healthy or not. It costs a lot around here and money talks....... I had a neighbor once that had a great Lab. He was only two years old and she'd had him from a puppy. She started feeling like he was too much for her to handle and wanted to put him to sleep. I asked why she just didn't re home him.... She said.. "If I can't have him, I don't want anyone else to have him" She had him put down.. If I were a Vet, and someone came in with that story.....I'd just make him look like he was "asleep", but really only be "sleeping". Then, I'd rehome him in another area. |

Oh, that breaks my heart! Lady has been diabetic for eight years and is still going strong. It can be expensive to treat and a big commitment because they need two insulin shots twice a day at the same time each day, but well worth it. |

My vet dose do this. she is a great lady and will charge you something $80 if you come in with a complaint or want to put your dog down for no reason. if your dog is sick or in pain then she will charge $5 for the medical waste disposal i only know because when our sheltie got old(almost 15) we asked her about it our dog was in a lot of pain and she could hardly breath the vet said she would give her a muscle relaxant and see if it helped she told us if we id not want to give her medicine it would be $80 well we took her home and gave her the medicine and she made it another 3 months when she could not stand up and she was struggling to breath we took her back in and the vet charged us $5 to put her down when we asked her about the astronomical difference she told us she dose not put down healthy dogs i would imagine there are a lot of vets who do this without you knowing she said she sends the dogs and cats to a shelter in Utah wear they always find homes |
*UPDATE* I was told she's bringing both dogs in today to be put down. I got in a huge fight with my mom and sister over this whole matter. I wanted them to give me the phone number or email address so I could suggest some other alternatives. Both my mom and sister didn't want to get involved. My sister didn't want problem between her and her friend. Putting down a healthy dog should be against the law! |
Oh no!! That is so sad. I would rather get involved and be known as a pain in the butt than the other way around. Remember the girl in NYC who was stabbed to death on the street and all the neighbors heard it but no one did a thing because they didn't want to "get involved"? Her name was Kitty Genovese. |
That must be so frustrating when you can't do anything to prevent such a tragedy from happening. |
i'm sorry ryan ... you must be so frustrated ... especially to have to fight with your family over it....:( you've done everything you can, so feel good about that.... |

and my sister is suppose to hang out with this girl this afternoon...right after they put down the dogs...how sad is that!! |
This is horrible, I know you are upset also especially when you can't help. My vet WOULD NOT put down a healthy dog, it is hard enough when a dog is old and has health issues. I had 2 cairn terriers that were raised together, Deion died at age 14 and Champion lived 2 more years. He was very sad and lonesome but we just gave him extra attention, love and food. He also died at 14. I have my 3 sweet yorkies now and that way they aren't lonesome. |

I feel like this is just an excuse to get rid of the other dog because it is old. Selfish people!! They wouldn't be my friends! No way. |
