I paid $700 for Tucker and his girlfriend that I am getting in November is $700 as well. I feel lucky to have found Tucker as he is the best puppy ever..He is 13 wks and weighs 1.9lbs. The breeder kept his sister and she weighs 3.5lbs at 13 wks.. They are all different and I do not think that any breeder can guarantee the weight of a dog. I mean I cannot guarantee that my children won't be overweight just because I am not. I love them no matter what. If you look through posts about sick Yorkies, you will notice that most of them are the tiny ones.. I think your new girl is beautiful and you should be proud to have her... Give her a chance and you and your other baby will fall in love.. |
She looks like hes a yorkie to me, so does her parents. I wonder if his ears will stay floppy because both of his parents are. Hes a cutie! ;) |
Looks all Yorkie to me! Just more to love. Sue |
You were prepared for a smaller Yorkie and obviously, that is not going to be the case. So, you have to make a decision about whether you are gonna keep her or not. If you decide the answer is "yes", you will have a sweet and loving larger Yorkie. To me, her face looks like that of an older girl but it is a sweet and open face. I would talk with the breeder and let him/her know that you had been led to believe she was gonna be much smaller. Why do that? To let her/him know that you are aware that they were not totally honest with you. |
Awww, your yorkie is very cute! Sully was 3.2 pounds at 10.5 weeks when we adopted him....and he's almost 9 pounds now, definitely fully grown of course. |
I am from San Diego. Your yorkie is adorable. Who was the breeder? |
I bought her in Illinois when I flew there for the summer. How old do you think she is? The lady said she was born Aug 18th. She posted an ad for her brothers on yahoo. She looks nothing like them. http://classifieds.yahoo.com/detail....0120424-835721 |
looks like she kind of looks like a yorkie poo mix! |
I HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM --- But I found out the hard way that yorkies come in all different sizes. I got my first yorkie and she was only 6 pounds. Then I got a little boy who grew to be close to 11 pounds. I thought he wasn't a yorkie but found out they can be all different sizes - the best way to find out there size is looking at the parents - and even then it's not 100% accurate. Katie |
Looks like you've had an overwhelming response that the puppy is a Yorkie. One problem you may have with two females in the same household is that one of them may take on an alpha-female role. Between the two, my guess from the information you have given - it will probably be the smaller one which may cause problems down the road when you are attempting to break up a potential fight between the two. Doubling the size at approximately 10 -12 weeks, as others have suggested, is what I also find pretty accurate. I doubt that your new puppy will be a giant though. I hope that your smaller pup warms up soon to the idea of your new addition. Best of luck to you. The new puppy looks like a sweetie! She looks like she has a lot of love to give. Also, about the ad for her brothers.....I don't think they look like they came from different litters, they really do have many similar features. Again, best of luck. Tracy |

Is she AKC or CKC registered? Or some other registry? |
CKC. I am really sad you guys. The new puppy has really changed Brandy's attitude. Brandy growls and bites me too if I try to hold the new puppy at the same time. Brandy's attitude is different. She seems stressed and very jealous if I pick up the other one. I thought Brandy would be happy if I got her a playmate. I guess I was wrong. Brandy used to be more cuddly and only is if she's not around the other one. |
ruh roh. sounds like the old Alpha Dog syndrome. :( |
Well I don't know if this helps or not, but I was in Petsmart the other day with my family and this couple that had 2 yorkies stopped to admire Tucker. They told me that their older dog Benjamin was 5yrs old and they just recently got Franklin who was 11wks at the time. They got him at 6wks and they said that it took Benjamin about 3 wks to fully accept Franklin and start playing with him..I had asked them about this because both were boys and I thought that the older one would have been Alpha.. It turned out ok for them!! As for the weigh your puppy looks and her size, I am not trying to down CKC because I know that some people register them CKC because the fees aren't as high, but they do not have any requirements to register a dog other than that they are a dog. The picture of the father does not look like a purebred and dogs do not have to be purebred to be CKC registered. There is a great chance that she does have Silky in her or something else, but then again she could also be purebred since being large does not mean that she is not a Yorkie. I think she is precious and you should give her a chance to become friends with your other one... |
tucker is 7 pounds and he out weighs his mother and father. the breeder was wrong to tell you that the pup would only be 4 pounds, they can't know that for sure at such a young age. you will just have to wait and see. in the mean time, enjoy, what a pretty baby you have |
My little guy was supposed to be around 5lbs full grown. His mom was 5 and his dad was 2.75lbs....JD will be 1 year old and he weighs 12lbs. I think you definitely have a yorkie...he is just on the bigger side like JD! She is adorable! |
It's just not looking good. I think the person talking about the alpha female was right. I wish I would have known. |
Cheryl, Fagan was 3.7 lbs at 9weeks and he is 6 months old now. We had him neutered 2 weeks ago and he weighed 5.9 lbs. He still seems very small and I know he's not done growing yet, but he's still a good size. I love him to pieces and would at this point no matter how big (or little) he was. The pictures show an adorable little girl and you got a great price as far as I can tell. I paid $725.00 for Fagan. Good luck and I hope you have many happy times with your baby... ;) |
[QUOTE=kewtee]She looks adorable! And VERY much yorkie! I think she will be a very healthy big yorkie! Ig she gets over 12 lbs she could be what you call a silky terrier - looks ezactly like yorkies but are bigger. is this correct? yorkies over 12lbs are considered silkies. i have never heard of this. i thought silky terrier was a different breed. where did you get this info from? i would like to read more on this. |
Well, in Denmark a "real" yorkie must be between 6 and 12 lbs to enter competitions. And from the books I have read on the breed I can read that the only difference from yorkie to silky is size. I have no clue to the standards in the states, but I do know that the standards of YT is that if it's cute it's a yorkie - and honestly I like that standard much more than any other :) |
My adult boy, 12 lbs and adult girl, 7 lbs, had an accidental litter and their pups are now 7 months old and range from 4 to 12 lbs!!! And from what I've read on here a very small male and an average size female can still spurt out an occasional 12 pounder. I don't think it's true that a yorkie over 12 lbs is a silky. I know there are pure bred yorkies on here that exceed 12 lbs. A silky is a totally different breed I think :) |

this site explains that there are three diffrent typed of terrier breeds. it also relates the silky terrier to the Australia Terrier since they both come from australia and the yorkie came from scottish background. i printed a phrase to maybe clarify this you can read futher if you go to the site Because many terrier breeds are closely related and have maintained similarity in size, color, temperament, and other characteristics, it is efficient and helpful to profile them together. Thus we have the Yorkshire Terrier, the Australian Terrier, and the Silky Terrier, each with the same bold, bright terrier demeanor but with slight differences in history, temperament, health, and suitability for particular families. http://www.canismajor.com/dog/yosiau.html#Intro hey val help us out !!!!!! i know you know the answer to this question you always seem to have the right answer. whats your take on this. are silkies and yorkies the same except for weight. |

This is what a Silky Terrier is Basically the only difference between a Silky and a Yorkie is that Silky's coats don't keep growing and they are built a bit more solidly. This breed too, is non shedding. Silky's are considered a "Toy Breed" and there snouts are bigger and longer. |

Size Maybe Syd just had strange growth spurts...but she was 2.75 lbs when I got her at 8 weeks and she grew to be 6.5 lbs full grown. Your yorkie may not be huge. Maybe just 7 or 8 lbs. But she definitely will not be 4-5 lbs like the breeder told you. Honestly a 6-8 lb yorkie is a good weight. You won't have to worry about her being as fragile. :) |
In defense of amanda350, I had to register Bitsy CKC because I got her as an adult and long story short, I couldn't get her AKC papers from the lady I bought her from. I can tell you that it is very easy to get CKC papers. All I had to do was send in pictures of her and I got her papers. There wasn't any way we could get AKC papers because they required more proof that she was indeed a yorkie! AKC and CKC are different and do have different standards and rules for acquiring papers! |
