Has the runs Lexi has had the runs since thursday Not all the time still going the same amount but the stoll is really soft and runny. Tonight it had a bunch of juice like clear stuff in it, what is that. I don't think it requires and emergency vet visit, but it still worries me. Still eating, drinking, playing that same but has soft poops. What can I do? thank you |
When My Mickey and Minnie got sick They had that too. I gave them rice and Pedylite and it seemed to help. |
Hi Laura, Did she have a different treats this week? Maybe you can add some rice or cheese, just a little, that might help. Please keep us posted. :) :) |
pedylite? What is this? never heard of it, but I am a first time yorkie owner. Will rice stop the poops? I don't want to seem stupid but if i cook up some white rice will it help? |
im not really sure with her but . but one time misty had soft stool and i took her to the vet and he gave her some yellow stuff for the runs. it went away for one day then it came back.it turned out she didnt have the runs its that she needed her glands to be pressed  |
yeah i have heard of the glands expressed thing before we thought we would have to do that when we first got her, she was about 4 months at the time but eventually it passed itself. I just feel bad for her, she is draggin her tush on the floor and walking like she has hemroids. Can I do anything until monday when i can take her to the vet? I gave her a nyla bone this week which she usually only gets on occassion and the day after the poops started so i don't know if they are related or not....since it was a day later. I just want to stop the poops, i feel so bad for her. She is still playing and eating so she should be fine till monday right? I am basically looking for reassurance!!!!! CAN I WAIT? |
Im so sorry your little one is sick with the runs. You can give her boil chicken and rice. You will find Pedialyte in the baby dept. is electrolytes for babies when they have diarrhea or are vomitting. If she still playing, drinking and eating keep an eye on her and if she keeps having the runs next week I will take her to the vet just to be safe. Please keep us posted. |
Def. give pedialyte in her water (you'll find it in the baby section at the grocery store. Make sure you get the unflavored one, mix 1/2 part water and 1/2 part pedialyte). Only feed her plain chicken (boil it, without salt or any seasoning) and mix with white rice...feed her that until her stool becomes hard again and the runs stop. I would take her to the vet if I were you. That happened to my Louie and he became really weak...and yorkies will play and keep acting energetic no matter how sick they may feel (at least that's the case with my pup). Good luck and keep us posted on how she's feeling. |
thaks for the advice i took her off solid food yesterday and put her on chicken broth for 24 hours then re-introduced her food again today and she scarfed it down and now has the runs again. She was off dry foor for about 18 hours should i have gone longer? Should i take the solid food away again? I can start the chicken broth thing, and how about rice? I have pediylite in the closet, so i guess i will start that again. Thank you I don't have to rush her to the vet tonight or anything right? she is playing, and eating just the poops |
I would do away with the solid food until her stool becomes completely solid again. Try just feeding her the chicken with the rice and water with pedialyte-no treats, snacks, etc. Give her more rice than chicken, rice binds you and it should make the pooping stop-however when I had this incident with my baby, nothing was helping, not the rice...nothing he continued to poop. Towards the end he was pooping every 15 mins. and it was a clear water and he scooted his butt as well. Keep your eye on her, make sure she is drinking her water so that she doesn't become dehydrated. If I were you, honestly I would take her to the emergency room-but I'm a nervous nelly. And you know your baby best, I just saw that Louie was very week and the pooping was getting to be more and more often and I couldn't take it anymore. They gave him a shot in the emergency room to stop the poops. I continued to give him chicken and rice until his stool was very solid again and then I mixed a little bit of his kibble, chicken and rice and every day weaned him off the chicken and rice a little more. How is she doing now?? |
Pedialyte Solution unflavoured use to quickly replace fluids and electrolytes lost during diarrhea and vomiting to help prevent dehydration in infants it is also good for dogs. |

Here is a link of how to treat diarrhea. |
So i had some pedialyte on had and tried to put it in her water but she caught onto that trick with the first lick so i gave her 3cc through a medice stick. I will continue to do so for the next day or so till I call the vet on monday she should be fine right? |
Boiled chicken and white rice should do the trick. Make sure to give lots of water too with the Pediolyte!!!!!! Even when the runs stop, you have to re-introduce solid kibble very slowly, mixed in with the chicken and rice or you may go back to the runs. good luck and keep us posted, and of course if you try this with no luck and the runs persist, a vet trip would be advised. |
No worms in her poops, they are just really soft and smelly. MOre juice stuff in her poop then anything. So when you say rice is it white rice, like the instant rice in a bag. I gave her some pedialyte a few minutes ago, and we are going to go to bed soon, should i make her rice now or wait till the a.m. |
Loki has had food related diahrea and giardia. We are experts. :-) For food related give rice and chicken (more rice than chicken). According the vet it was OK for Loki to fast for 12 hours (he's 8 pounds). I would skip the chicken broth. Give LOTS of water. If it doesn't clear up soon head to the vet. They will do a fecal smear and see if it is something like giardia. I have NO idea where Loki got giardia from when he had it because he is walked on a leash at all times. The vet said they can get it from the sidewalk even, and then lick their paw. You never know. It was SUPER gross though, I KNEW something was wrong. If it looks slimy, egg whitey, liquidy or mucusy head to the vet monday morning or sooner if she gets lethargic - could be worms, giardia, or something equally icky. If it looks normal in color but it's just soft, just try the rice - it will probably clear up. Also, the vet can do a fecal smear and still give good drugs even if it's only from food. Basically doggie pepto with a little extra to help clear out whatever is causing it. If it lasts more than a few days they can get dehydrated. Keep an eye on her and it will probably clear up before you can call the vet. |
How long ago did she poop? And when was the last time that you fed her and what did you feed her? Seems to me like she scarfed down her kibble because she was hungry...you said you had only given her chicken broth and then introduced her food again after 18 hours, right? |
White rice is fine, even the instant kind. I would only give a little, and make sure you take her out in the middle of the night (set an alarm) or you will wake up to a mess. I gave Loki a little bit of rice at a time, maybe 4 times a day. I don't know if that is right, though. I just didn't want to give his tummy too much at once. |
I fed her about four hours ago, just her normal kibble Royal Canine for puppies and a few cheerios (3) which she always gets for treats. She was on chicken broth yesterday and I gave her food back today but i think it was too soon. I have given her pedialyte in the last 15 mintues and am going to introduce white rice tomm, but will have to run to the store for some chicken. I am going to call the vet on monday but wanted to know what i could do in the mean time so we didn't have to spend the evening in the emerg vet. She seems perfectly normal other then the poops, which are normal color, have a little clear stuff at the end when she is all done, and they smell horible. Just really soft poops. It has been going on since thursday late. but no tired or anything, her gums look good still pink, playing fine, and going to get water. |
i want to thank eveyone so much i am going to start the rice thing in the am just because i dont want to have anymore unexpected emergencies tonight |
The rice is more important than chicken at first. Start with rice, then gradually add chicken and then slowly go back to kibble. The rice will make her feel full without being too hard on her tummy. The protein in the chicken is a little harder to digest so start with rice. |
Agree with Erin, absolutely, if you have rice, give it to her NOW!! Don't add the chicken broth because I am assuming it's canned chicken broth you used, right? That's no good, has too may preservatives and sodium and seasonings that could upset her tummy more. Also, no cheerios, they are high in fiber (fiber makes us poop and it may make Lexi poop more too). Stay off her kibble until she's completely better. Most importantly, make sure she's drinking her water. PLease, please keep us posted. |
give her a little rice this evening if you can to bind her up a little bit before bed time and hopefully she won't poop in the middle of the night. Remember don't use any salt or butter in the rice when you make it-just plain ole' rice and water... |
Okay I am goign to boil up some rice now but no chicken in the house to boil that will have to wait till the a.m. thus far has had pedialyte and is laying in the guest room eating a pair of clean undies, she can have her fun...she is sick so i will post again in a little bit after the rice thanks |
okay okay okay WELL i tried to make rice in the microwave....ha ha ha the bowl i put it in was plastic and thought it could be microwaved well i am wrong...my house now smells like burnt plastic and the rice lay all over the microwave and still no rice for lexi MOMMY CAN'T COOK |
Is it minute rice? I usually boil the water in a pyrex measuring cup in the micro and then add the rice. No need to put the rice in the microwave. That sounds like a mess! Yuk! |
I gave her some rice...hope it works SO just continue this till monday when I call the vet right? I am such a worrier, I can't thank everyone enough. Thank you thank you thank you thank you I will keep you all posted |
The only other suggestion I have, is, if she keeps pooping, give her a fourth to a half tsp. of pepto bismol. My vet swears by that stuff and I give it to Maddie when she becomes ill with an intestinal problem. Good luck...keep us posted on how she's doing! |
good morning lexi and mommy were up almost evey hour last night with the poops Mommy is very tired. She had the runs all over the sheets last night about 1 a.m. lucky us then was up many more times but has not went poop since about three a.m. and it is now almost 11 a.m. I am giving her 5 cc's of pedialyte every hour and have started her on some rice. We will see how this works, if not i think i am going to try the pepto.thank you everyone |
please take her to the vet today...emergency room. I don't think you should wait another day, pooping every hour-what could she possibly have left to poop. Better to be safe...please keep us posted. I thought about Lexi all night last night. I don't let Louie have the runs for more than 1 day and then I take him to the vet. |
