Knots in my belly In one more hour I take Isabella to get spayed and have teeth extracted...WOW, I am so scared....I've read that having teeth pulled while being spayed is pretty common, but how is the recovery? Aww, I feel so sad for her. I'm already tearing up just thinking about leaving her., and then this morning as soon as she woke up, she ran in the kitchen looking for her food, it was so pathetic, my poor little girl. If anyone can just give me some tips on recovery with the spay and the teeth, I would so appreciate it. Thanks... Isabella's Mommy |
Sending prayers to you and your little Isabella this morning. I hope she has a successfull surgery and speedy recovery. I remember how hard it was when Jada and Bogie had their spay and neuter and I hope today goes by fast for you. It is so pitiful when you can't let them have their morning meal. |
Sending prayers to you and Isabella. Normally they recover so quickly, it is actually unbelievable and she will be her old self. |
Isabella's Mommy, A few years ago I came here asking for Prayers for my little girl for the same surgery. She had her teeth removed due to decay and also spayed. She recovered wonderfully. We feed her Royal Canin for Yorkies, so it was already small and she adapted real well. Plus, her other foods she gets cut up small anyway. Her mouth will be tender, but your baby will do just fine! Matthias ;) |
When Bridget was spayed she had 9 baby teeth removed. I was so impressed at how quickly she seemed to recover. When I brought her home she of course was starving - so I gave her small amounts of "wet" food thinking her mouth would be sore. Well she walked right over and started eating the cats hard food. She did have a full set of adult teeth on top already in so that may make a difference. She was chewing on her chew toys immediately. She really never missed a beat. Good luck - I know how nerve wrecking it can be - but she'll be fine...she'll pull through this better than you! Sending prayers your way for her speedy recovery - she'll be back to her norm in no time - and the hard part will be trying to keep her calm for the next few days. Let us know when you get the long awaited good news that she is out of surgery and doing great! |
Hugs and prayers to you and Isabella. I know it's hard but try not to worry they do bounce back quickly. |
Sending you Prayers.:hands: Let us know when she is out of surgery. |
It is pretty amazing how quickly they do recover from a spay. She will most likely be a little groggy from the surgery for a day or two and you shouldn't allow her to jump around too much. As for those teeth I didn't see any difference in the way they ate after or indication they had a soar mouth. Prayer going out to both you and Isabella this morning. |
Oh My Gosh, thank you so much, you're all so wonderful!!!! The Vet just called to say her pre-op blood work was all normal, so thay are going ahead with the surgery, I have to call at 12:30 and they will let me know how it all went. While I was dropping her off a 6 month old pitbull mix came in to get spayed as well, her mommy didn't even shed a tear, me on the other hand shed several.. Thanks again for all your support everyone and I'll post as soon as my baby gets home..... |
Praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery! Spay day is such an emotional day even for those who have multiple furbutts and "know the drill" the day is still traumatizing, your feelings are normal. The recovery is very quick and you probably will not even recognize that she had teeth removed. Keep us posted and hugs to you and Isabelle!! |

Praying for a safe recovery for your little one. All of these babies are different. I have or have had 7 yorkies. All but one of them did so very well after any surgery (spay, bladder stones, eyes removed and teeth extraction and cleanings). I just couldn't believe how fast these little guys recouperated. Then there was Elsy - she was just spayed 1 1/2 weeks ago. She came home the same day and it was terrible for her. She would lie down but then get right back up because she was hurting. She whined for about 24 hours. She had not eaten since 6:30 the night before her surgery and after 43 hours had gone buy and she still had not eaten (I gave her nutracal and fluids through a syringe though) I took her in to the vet. They ended up given her another pain shot and sub-q fluids and sending her home. They gave me fluids so I could give them sub-q if she needed them since it was the Memorial Day holiday but by nighttime she was so much better. She ate alittle and drank on her own. She is still not eating as well as I would like but she is eating and drinking. The vet told me that each dog is different and some cannot handle pain as well as others. This is the first time that I have ever had a problem like this after surgery. |

Just called the Vet. She's all done and doing well, already awake and sitting up, had to pull just the 4 teeth in the front. I am picking her up at 2pm. I can't wait to see her and smooch her. Thanks so much for all of your prayers and kind words.. Isabella's Mommy |
Great news - now take a deep breath.....inhale.....exhale ! |
Glad to hear Isabella is doing well after her surgery today. I know you will be so glad to have her back home. |
I am so happy to have her home:). She is pretty mushy, and she came home with a cone that has to stay on for 10 days, she hates it, I took it off while I was laying with her and she went right for the incision, so I had to put it right back on. She hasn't eaten any of her food yet, but she did have 4 honeynut cherrios, she loves them! She's not drinking yet either, just a couple small licks from a glass, she won't even go near her bowl, she seems to really be freaked out about the cone, she won't even walk around, she just stands there, hopefully she'll get used to that soon. They gave her a shot for pain before she left and sent her home with something that I can give her before bed. She's deffinatly not herself, that's for sure, and I still need to look in her mouth, there is nothing on the bill that says she had any teeth removed, and I'm sure that's not free....yet they did tell me on the phone that 4 were removed and the others should come out on thier own, and if not, they shouldn't cause any problems. Hmmm, I better go check, Thanks again everyone.. Isabella's Mom |
I am so glad to hear that your little girl is home safe and sound. I am dreading having Trixie spayed this summer and will cry as well. I didn't realize that the she would have a cone and have to wear it for ten days....did you get her a soft cone or is it a hard one?? Let me know how you are both doing, but I am happy she is home!! |

I am so glad you have your baby home. |
I am glad that your baby is home and everything went well. lots of hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery;) |
What a night Well, Isabella had a terrible night, she was up most of the night, she seemed so uncomfortable, she would all of a sudden try and run, like she was trying to get away from the pain, she even a few times wimpered:cry:. I held her for most of the night, she would calm down and then all of a sudden try to climb up to my neck, again like she was running from the pain.I gave her the pain medicine before bed, she only slept soundly for a little bit, it says to only give once a day. This morning she still was trying to escape the pain( I'm assuming it is pain), but she did eat some and drink, and she did pee and poop, so I was very happy about that. I think I may call the Vet to see if there is a medication I can give her in between the other, if she's not any better this afternoon. It's so strange to see her acting like this, she's usually a wild little girl. I am just hoping she recovers quickly.. My poor little baby girl :dogprints~~~~:dogprints |
I know what are talking about. Must be a sharp pain that makes them run. She will probably start feeling better tonight and tomorrow. :) |
:thumbs upMy baby girl is back!!!! Isabella is playing again, eating, drinking and giving lots of kisses.. |
glad she's better!! glad she's feeling back to her normal self!!! i will have bijou spayed within the next couple of months and i am scared sh!tless LOL!! i am always glad to read when other ones go well!! :) |
Glad to hear she is back to herself. My Gracie got spayed yesterday and I was the same way as you until they called to let me know she did great. I brought her home last night and I had to try to keep her calm. She is such a trooper she bounced back right away. Each dog is different some take longer than others. I was glad she didn't have any baby teeth left to remove. So glad that this is done. Good luck to Miss Isabella. |

Knots in my belly I'm glad she's doing well. I had to leave my baby overnight and it was just terrible! She had both done also and I now have 13 baby teeth in a little baggie. I did try to feed her wet food, but she really wanted her dry food too...and mine is a horrible eater. They really recover fast. She may be tender to be picked up though. That was the only thing that I really noticed. Instead of picking her up to sit on my lap, I sat on the floor with her. I sat beside her little bed and had a blanket in my lap for her to gently climb on. Me and my babies are wishing you and your baby a fast recovery. |
I'm so glad that she came through the surgery and will pray for a speedy recovery. I had Faith spayed a little under two months ago...she had 14 baby teeth pulled at the time. I fed her wet food the same days as the surgery, but the next day, she wanted her kibble...and acted as if nothing had happened. The day of the surgery they can be pretty miserable, but if you get through that, It's a breeze. Be sure they send her home with some pain meds so you can keep her comfortable. Best wishes to you and your baby. |
I'm so glad Isabella is feeling better:) |
