Totally crying....how did the chew get dislodged? Did it get pushed down with air or I wonder if it finally got mushy and went down. Great, just ordered those chews, now freaking out. Are you going to give them anymore? Thank heavens he is ok. That is awful. |
Ugg, I posted and it's not showing up. This totally made me cry. How did the chew get dislodged? Did you force it down or I wonder if it just got mushy and finally went down? I just ordered the chews too. Little freaked out. Thank heavens he is ok, I can't even imagine how awful that actually was. |
Oh Ann!!!! I am so sorry that you and Marcel went through such a huge scare! You definitely saved his life!! Thank you for sharing this...it was a good reminder for us all. Hugs to you my friend....please give Marcel some love for me, too. Tam |
Ann, I'll admit after the first two lines I skipped to the part where he was breathing again. I couldn't bear to read the entire thing. I know it was a hard thread to write, but know that we can all learn from this. I hope you don't mind, I'm going to use this opportunity to urge members to use common sense when giving your babies any kind of chew. Never ever give them one when they are home alone because you never know when they'll need your help. I know most don't, but I think I've read a few that when they leave for work/errands/etc, they leave their baby with a chew of some kind to keep them busy. Don't do it! When the babies get the chews small enough is when they need the most supervision. |
chocking OMG That is so scary just reading it. I would not want to go through that. I hope I would be able to do something. I am still feeling nervous inside. I do not give any of mine and chews at all but it can be anything, a toy, a piece of a plastic ect. I know human cpr but not animal.I an sure there is something on yt that tells you what to do. Going to talk to my vet asap to have her show me how as well. Thank goodness he is okay now. |
I just got CET chews for the first time today, literally. I will definitely be signing up for a pet CPR class. I've read how to do it, but I'm not sure I'd do in a real situation. I'm so relieved to here that Marcel is okay. |
What a terrible experience! It is good for us to know the basics! How lucky you were to be able to see him struggling! You are blessed that you knew what to do! |
I'm so glad that you and Marcel survived this near tragedy. What a terrible scare. Faith choked once on a kibble...she couldn't breathe...I ran in here and to YT to find the Heimlich Maneuver instructions. It worked on the second try. I now have the ER instructions hanging right behind my computer in plain site. |
I am soooo glad that baby is okay. I buy the chewies from our vet. We have a little toy schnauzer besides our yorkies and she is 13yrs. old. The other night the same thing happened to her. If I had not been right there she could have died. My husband was in the kitchen and she was not making any choking noise, just this look of horror on her little face, I knew it was hung in her throat. I had worried about it before this happened because they get so soft and mushy like, but, I also want to learn what to do. Thank God my husband was there and did. They just really need to be watched when they have any treats really. They can get choked so easy. Kiss little Marcel for us and again I am so glad he was fine. |
You're amazing. I need to review the sticky for emergencies, too. To be honest, something like this never even crossed my mind. I honestly don't know if I'd pull it together in an emergency. I hope I could. |

The trouble with pressed is that they can be broken before they are softened and cause a choking hazard. Also if swallowed before softened they can and do tear the intestines on the way through. In my opinion none of those things are safe, solid or pressed. |
Ann, I just saw this thread, and I am trembling just thinking about this horrible ordeal. Thank God you were able to help Marcel. That is so scary I can't even imagine going thru it. Hugs to you all. |
I am so sorry that you went through that, Ann. I know how terrifying it is when our babies can't breathe. Ashley absolutely loved one kind of chewy, but she started choking on two occasions after giving them to her. Sadly, I no longer could give them to her. You definitely saved your sweet little boy's life. Your babies are lucky to have you as their mom. |
How scary. Im so glad hes ok. Thanks for sharing your story. Please give Marcel a kiss from us |
Talk about being on the edge of my seat reading that - wow ! You did such a good job saving him and everyone needs to read this - I'm soooo glad he's ok now and glad you were right there when it happened ! hugs |
