Has anybody heard of Yorkie/Poms? I was just wondering what they looked like or even if somebody could explain it to me that would be great also. THANKS! :D |
I've never heard of one so I googled yorkie pom and came up with some sites. This site has a couple of pictures about halfway down. They must specialize in crossing breeds, I'm not endorsing them, as I just found the site and saw they had a picture. http://www.pups4kids.com/pups_sold_6.htm |
Its unclear what they would look like. Some would look more like yorkies some more like poms. Fuzzy yorkie looking, or thin coated pom looking, or inbetween. Thats the nature of mixed pups. There is no general look for them, its random. |
A yorkie Pom is a mix breed dog. The mix is from a yorkshire terrier and a Pomerianian. The name is misguiding because a lot of people think it is pure breed dog but in fact they are nothing more than mixes(aka mutt). Since they are mixes it is hard to tell what they would look like. CC's post puts it very well into prospective. |
Thanks MoGraceLiz! Very helpful site! |
Hello...here is a site that has pictures. This breeder calls hers Porkies. LOL They ARE adorable though. http://stoneyck.homestead.com/YORKSHIRETERRIER.html |

Would those be called "Yorkranians" LOL Mutts yes, but very cute adoravle mutts. I would hope for the yorkie disposition. I think Poms are too high strung and noisy. JMO |
porkies or yorkiepoms yeah some poms are very noisy but mine has a great disposition i love her to death she is very small only about 4 pounds full grown, probably the best dog i've had. I just think her pups will be so cute mutts or not its a new thing people are doing crossbreeding for shedding purposes ect.. i will post pics she is due nov 6 or before. |

All the yorkie-poms that I've seen as adults look like a Pomeranian. They're adorable though. And mixed breeds might be mutts, my mixed breeds have less health issues. |
aka mutts In response to lovefor3yorkies to my knowledge they are not calling them mutts there calling them hybrids its a new line of breeding |

Its a mixed breed. Hybrids are when you mix species not dogs. When I see the day AKC calls them an actual breed then I will call them that breed but until then they are MIXED BREEDS!! |
does it matter isn't a cockapoo an akc registered dog its the same thing, anyway i don't really care they will sell just like any akc registered dog would!!!!!!www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=132155&j=t for those that want to see pics here are some cute ones.www.dailypuppy.com/index.php?itemid=301 |

Cute yes they are but they are still mixed breeds. |
A lot of the mixed breeds are very cute - and certainly any dog can be a wonderful pet. To tell the truth - sometimes I look at my little Yorkie with his puppy cut - and his unkempt hair that is scattered all over --every color going in every direction - the dirt and the few leaves that always seem to be stuck to his face this time of year - and lately the pineneedles hanging from his legs and his behind...... and, he's a purebred --- but, he sure looks like a little Walt Disney mutt to me. And, I tell him that too..... I have had a lot of mixed breed and a lot of purbreds and have loved all my dogs to death, but the favorite one of my lifetime was a mixed breed. She was special in every possible way -- and there will never be a day that I don't miss her. I know a lot of you have Yorkies, other purebreds, and mixed breeds too. And, from all your posts - it's obvious that you love all of them. **** I do agree with all the posts that said mixed breeds from a single litter can turn out looking very different. I have seen this happen many times. Good luck! Carol Jean |
I hate the term mutt. I don't have a problem with mixed breeds. I've seen yorkie poms and they are absolutely adorable! |
As much as I visit our local shelter...... I am still a HUGE advocate of keeping the breeds breeding into there own line......I am thinking primarily of the many, many years of breeders trying to improve their lines....whether it is Yorkie, Pom, Poodles.....whatever. I realize that the Yorkie originated from two different small breeds......look at the internet for the origin......so in actuality, if we were to look way, way, way back.....you will see that it took two different breeds to make the Yorkie...... But, I say to each his own........I just would NEVER breed to unlike breeds in order to provide a "different" looking dog. You never know what you will get, both physically, emotionally or heathwise.... And I think of ALL the work that has been done before me.........I am not going to be the ONE to screw up history......I just won't. JMHO |
In response to ehunny i feel the same way i also hate the term mutt it sounds so mean. |

The word mutt doesn't bother me, it just means mixed breed. And as long as someone isn't putting a dog down for being a mixed breed/mutt, then I have no problem with the word mutt being used. :) Yorkie-Pom mixes sure are adorable (what dog isn't). :) But I'd go to a local animal shelter and get one rather then pay a lot of money for one from a breeder. JMHO |
right on jen:thumbup:   |
Probably the difference of opinion comes from different meanings of the word "mutt" -- it can mean a mixed breed, it can also mean an inferior dog, a mongrel, a stupid person, etc.....So, it is easy to see why some might think the term derogatory. Me.... I have used it as a weird term of endearment for my babies, "come here you lovable mutt" -- when they are all AKC registered and some with pretty nice pedigrees. But they came and gave me kisses just the same. :) I am against purposely mating different breeds together but that is just my preference. I love Yorkies for what they are. I love other breeds for what they are too. I have a purebred Dachshund and a purebred Jack Russell that I love dearly as I have my unpapered mixes along the years. But I think if a person has a great example of a breed, they should not dilute that. I have seen some websites with yorkies being sold that look suspiciously like there were some mixed breeds in the woodpile. One site in particular sold yorkie-wawas or something and some of their yorkies looked as much chihuahua as the mixes being sold. How do you trust that? Another puppy might look all yorkie, only to have puppies that looked as mixed as all get out. But I do not think my opinion is the only one on this subject. There must be a lot of people who love the idea of mixing the breeds or they would not be selling. So, maybe it is a way of coming up with new breeds for the future -- or diluting the fine purebreeds we have now -- I guess we will see in a few generations. Some day in hind sight, the answer may be more clear. |
i have yorkie poms take a look at my gallery and little girl and magnum are yorkie poms mine started out looking like poms and turned in to yorkies..lol |
