Does anyone know what state this is in or what the name of the school is? You can always email the Board of Education in that county.Did they really stop the raffle? I also emailed but never received a response but maybe she had too many emails to answer. Maybe if the puppy needs a home she could sell her to someone on YT and use that money for the team. |
it is Franklinton, LA.......and the high school is Bowling Green High School |
Out of curiosity has anyone thought about contacting CKC about this? I am not familiar with their procedures and policies but they may consider this a violation of some sort... I know how many people feel about "other registries" other than AKC but would it hurt to try? |
I know someone asked about state and what school it is. This is probably not a school ball team. It is more then likely an AAU Team. My son plays travel ball. It's a private invitational league and it's funded privately through fund raising and sponsors. The teams generally are tournament teams that play all year round and they travel throughout the country playing tournaments. Our team has gone to MD as well as Cooperstown and will be heading to SC. NEVER WOULD I OR HAVE I SEEN A TRAVEL BALL TEAM RAISE MONEY LIKE THIS. Generally, we sell Superebowl spots (like they do in the sports bars during superbowl) and we sell advertising spots where if you donate X amount of money you get your name on the back of the warm up tee, as well as a link to your business on our website. The kids also do car washing and yard work to raise money. It's really disappointing to see that this is what they would teach their young ball players. I think I'll send a note to her as another baseball mom and see if I can give them other ideas. Also, UnderArmor as well as Nike sponsor teams with gear etc. You just need to write to them and ask and in a lot of cases they will send you something, not always a lot but every bit helps. Elaine |
I wrote I took the time to write as another travel ball mom. Hopefully, she'll reconsider. This is what I wrote. (Below) Elaine Hello. I know many people have probably already written you and I'm sure some not very nice. I know the cost of travel ball. My two sons have played for the past five years or more. My oldest now 16 has given it up and now has a part time job, but my youngest 14 is still playing. I'm sure like you guys, we play tournaments all over, such as the Ripken Tournament in SC and MD. I'm not only a travel ball mom but also work diligently in Animal Rescue, specifically with Yorkies. I'm owned by five Yorkie Rescue Pups. With that said, I would really caution you with the raffle. It's not a good way to go. You'll have no control over where this pup will end up and no control over what will happen to the pup over the years. Perhaps she'll end up in a the hand of a puppy mill where she'll be bred, living in a cage for the rest of her life or just simply in a poor home with little to no care. There are so many ways to raise money. We've done it through SuperBowl picks, sponsorship where depending on the amount of donation they get a link to their business on our website as well as their name on the back of our tee and their name on our banner. We've raised thousands this way. Also, if you write to Nike and Under Armour they have sponsorships available for the asking. Other nice ways (And it teaches kids to earn things) is through car washes as well as yard work through the season. I hope you'll reconsider the auctioning of this little Yorkie or any animal for that matter. Sincerely, Elaine (Another Travel Ball Mom) |
I don't think our school would even allow something like this; although I realize this is not exclusively a school function. Yes, athletics are expensive; my son swims on a USA team AND a high school team which means travel expenses; club expenses; coaching fees; warm-ups; suits; caps . . . .and never once has our team considered raffling off a live animal. And most of us are not exactly well-off either. So while I appreciate the fact that the ad was pulled; I have to wonder how anyone could have considered this a good idea in the first place. I'm just now seeing this thread and am glad that the individual changed her mind. |
Elaine - that was one well worded email ! |
