Regular ol' thunder, and even LOUD thunder, doesn't bother the dogs. A couple of them even go bustin' out the door into the yard to bark at it. Now, those sudden loud CRACKS, usually accompanied by a near strike, makes them all jump in my lap. That includes the 70 lb. pitty, too. They all look around with stunned, What the HALE was *that*? looks. Surprisingly enough, they don't like arguing, either. My husband and I seldom had cross words, but my daughter and her BF have had some real rousing "discussions", usually late at night. Then they all come bustin' in the door and try to curl around my head like earmuffs  (including the 70 lb. pitty :D) It's funny: they can be such tyrants at times, and such mushmellows at others ;) |

Morgan gets scared before the storm actually gets here. I think she can feel the atmospheric pressure change AND the static electricity in the air. I tried regular t-shirts, sweatshirts, fleece pjs, a tight blanket, a dryer sheet, and none of that worked with her. consoling and ignoring don't help either. turning the tv or radio up loud didn't help and i even tried ear plugs. since trying to hide the sound didn't work, that makes me believe its the pressure and electricity that bothers her. sometimes she'll freak out even if there isn't a thunderstorm and its usually at night when nothing that i can sense has happened. the Thunder shirt isn't made of anything special. it feels like sweatshirt material and i'm sure some of the people here might be able to make one if the have a sewing machine. |

We are going to have thunderstorms all week, but that's ok because now i feel prepared! I have a special shirt, blanket, "thunder treats" and soft music. Would you believe the power went out!! Now Cooper and I are sitting in the dark. No music, no a/c, no shirt because it feels about 100 degrees in the house. I have my laptop hooked to dialup. We are viewing videos of yorkies together, which he seems to be enjoying. Go figure. |
Pete is terrified of thunder and now even hard rain. He weighs 7.5 lbs and the vet just told us to give him 1/4 of a Benedryl tablet. Seems to help calm him. |
Hi my dogs are terrified of thunder and fireworks, My mom bought this thing that you plug into the plug socket and it gives off some sorta smell that relaxes them? I will ask her the name of it tonight :) |
My yorkie, Bear, growls at the thunder, but he's not scared of it. I'd just say keep close to him and pet him soothingly. Maybe give him a treat? Something that will comfort him. Hope I helped! :) |
