I did not need to quote everything that you wrote. I was quoting what I felt was appropriate to what I was trying to explain to the OP. Quite honestly, it doesn't matter what YOUR personal experience with bringing home a much too young Yorkie has been....it matters what we say to a potential new Yorkie owner. Take a step back, remove your own personal experience and give the best possible advice...for the puppy's sake.

it does matter..i made it appoint that knowledge was a key factor in getting a younger pup..i made it a point to add that im my post and when you quote something and basically leave out words it doesnt look right

but whatever....

She can contact the YTCA and get recommendations from their breeder referal program....or she can contact a reputable rescue to see if they have a rescue/rehome that would work...but any of those puppy selling webites are just a disaster waiting to happen IMHO.

The OP needs to know what to look for and to understand what a good contract is. She needs to talk to her mom to see what mom wants...It certainly would be better if she knew what a good breeder is and then try to buy where her mother lives so mom can go see the puppies and the enviornment these puppies are raised in. There is tons to learn...

Yorkie puppies should not be sold before 12 weeks...let mom and the litter mates do a lot of the training for you...

P.S. There are a great deal of breeders that will do anything for a buck including selling you a very poor quality dog. They will sound nice and maybe even live in a nice house but the best interest of the dog comes after their profits...and that is why reading the sales contract is so very important..... A couple members referred you to the thread on a reputable breeder and that is sound, great advise.

Remember, spend a little more time at the beginning in your search and you will be so happy in the end.

Sounds like he was definitely feeding you a line of excrement! I am from Texas and yes we have a lot of mills here. But from looking online I think they are everywhere now. It is very sad.

thats all great advice but again..i have been successful on puppyfind..you cant base everyone on that site as unethical..

8 months old is NOT an older yorkie. that's a baby still. i think that yorkies make GREAT companion dogs for the elderly, but usually a puppy under a year old is too much work and while tire out an older person. i would suggest finding a rescue dog in a shelter or rescue around her area and you can get a beautiful 3-8 YEAR old dog for her that might even be previously potty trained and behave well already. plus you would spend less than 400 bucks for most rescues and get a really great dog.

And you are a breeder..this person is not and I am sure with what his mother has gone through the last thing he needs is some of the crap dogs from puppyfind. From what I understand he is now looking for an older dog.

I also never said they were all unethical but you sure have to be willing to gamble with any of them...

No one said that the entire site was unethical, Tammy. I'm thrilled that you had good experiences with the puppies you have obtained through it.

But, it's not a site for someone who hasn't done their research. Fortunately, the OP seems to have a good head on his shoulders and is asking the right questions. That says good things about him. Most potential owners though don't know WHAT questions to ask or even where to start. They may see a puppy up for sale at 6 weeks and think it's a good idea. They may not have any problems, but then again they may.

Rhett was separated from his litter mates too soon (8 weeks, we brought him to our home at 10). We didn't have any problems with hypoglycemia, but have had to work harder with biting issues that could have been avoided if he had been better socialized and not come from a puppy mill. He's our joy, but the transition was harder on him than it needed to be.

So I guess my original point when I commented on the site was that I was disappointed to see people being irresponsible and selling puppies that early. It just seems like it would be a shame to encourage that practice when there are better alternatives.

Good Lord 64 is not elderly :eek: and I know a ton of them could run circles around you:p...geez...and people are talking to him behind the scene. A reputable rescue would not adopt to him for his mom in another state..

LOL. It's not elderly, but I believe the op stated she does have a lot of health issues she is dealing with, so that is certainly a consideration if they get a puppy.
