well googling websites is not working

i dont know how else a person is supposed to locate a pup...

i have always used puppyfind. kijiji. and hobbly..and the papers..other then yt where else is there to look?

she also has us to utilize in her search...so when she meets someone she can ask us questions and get advice

I think this is a really important point to make, particularly in an era where smaller Yorkies are priced significantly higher than those who fall within the higher numbers of the breed standard. It really does pay to shop around and to be flexible about the sex, age, etc. of the dog you would like to adopt. It sounds like the OP has a good head on her shoulders....... good questions and a lot of thought behind postings....but I also believe it would be best for the future owner to personally select the dog. It is such a huge commitment! Keep up the search!

with 1000s of puppies...if you are looking for yorkie..go to yorkie..in CA go to CA then search through..some people may just want deposits

mine was listed at 10 weeks old..i got her the same day she was listed

and i got my male last year..he was listed at 11 weeks old..and i got him that weekend

For what it's worth, the breeder I met with had a THICK Texan accent, and no offense to Texans, but I'm not used to that and thought his name was RR DEAN or RR DEANS, but it could have been DANES. To the member who inquired about his name, I'm just not sure and since he hung on my when I phoned him to say I was no longer interested based on what I learned from Yorkie Talk, I don't think I can phone him to ask the spelling of his name! He did say his brother is a professional breeder near Houston but that he is just a hobby breeder. Again, thanks to all who are concerned and so helpful. I am printing out these threads so that when we find a pooch for mom she will see the kindness of strangers...

I agree that you have to know what you are looking for. Unfortunately, most people wouldn't know that it isn't ok to be buying a dog (especially a toy) that early. The example of the 5 week old I mentioned gave a release date that would only make her 7 weeks. The other 7 week old yorkie was listed as being ready to go home. No reputable breeder would let them go that young. And that was just in the first couple of pages.

Wow! Well, everyone else beat me too it so I guess I don't have to tell you to run! But it does bring up another point about smaller yorkies... my small one has retained teeth which she should have lost by now but my bigger ones lost their teeth without any problems at all.

there is a Jeff Danes and i think he lives in Tx and has a puppymill...or a garage of puppies..NOT SURE..but i know he has been reviewed here and not on a good scale!...and i believe his whole family breeds

there so many though...you just have to look..i personally have nothing against a 7-8 week going home BUT i know and understand that alot of people do

5 weeks going home? no excuse for that

i had my first 2 at 6 weeks old..no problems with them..not that someone else might have problems with that depends on the puppy and the buyers knowledge like you said

BUT i do perfer buying older now..i like the 10-12 week old stage and wouldnt want to purchase a younger one..much easier on training and socializing

The best advise I ever got on Yorkietalk was First...find a breeder. Then find a dog. It would have saved me so much heartache if I had known this from the begining. But I want to tell you something.....and I hope you (OP) are not offended but when I read your post.....I laughed like a double jawed hyena. What that guy said about the teeth is hysterically funny. The whole situation is a like a freakshow....swapping semen and dry ice and the comical price. This guy is a carnival barker.
And BTW, I love what your doing for your Mom. She is the perfect age and the perfect candidate for a Yorkie. She has the world by the tail and a Yorkie will just be the cherry on the ice cream sundae. What a wonderful kid she raised.

I really feel that when a person comes to YT looking for buying advice, we should supply them with the best possible information that we can. To the original poster, purchasing a Yorkie puppy at 7-8 weeks old is NOT a good idea! My Yorkie's puppies, at that age, had just started eating canned food well and were still not on kibble yet. They are so tiny at this age...my babies ranged from 1.8-1.14 so if they were to have a day that they didn't eat enough, they could have become hypoglycemic very easily. Also, it's important that they get those extra weeks with their mommy and littermates...for socialization. I would suggest that you do not bring a Yorkie puppy home unless it is ATLEAST 12 weeks old.

Not sure if this helps, but the AKC website has a link to find local breeders in your area. Of course, this doesn't mean they're all good breeders but it could be a start to narrowing your search. Good luck in finding the perfect pup for Mom...you are really doing a sweet deed for her!:)

Great suggestion! As a 64 old, I got a WONDERFUL retired girl from a breeder 3 months ago. She is never chews on anything or tries to get anything I drop - like pills or food. She was not housebroken or leash trained. Now in 3 months, she is about 90 % housebroken (pads and outside) and can be trusted to be loose in the yard with supervision. My yard is not fenced but if she starts to go to far, comes back when called.

I am so glad that I have her!! Don't think I could handle a puppy, so OP be sure what your mother is up to having. A yorkie will be a great companion. Good luck with your search.

and i said i liked getting them older BUT i have never had an issue with getting them younger..

im not getting in a huge debate in this thread about what age is good to go home..it varies in my opinion
