I feel like the worst mom ever 1 Attachment(s) About a week ago I posted something about a bump on Precious's head. I thought maybe it could've gotten scratched by a bow on her head but I didn't think it was likely. Well over the week it's "scabbed" over. Really it's mostly just matted hair, etc over the scrape. So I bathed her and trimmed off the matted hair. And to my Horrific surprise I found a nickel sized open wound under the matted hair. It's in a perfect circle. My husband and I cleaned it off and put antibiotic ointment on it. I called the vet immediately and we are being seen in the morning. I feel like this is all my fault and what could possibly be over a stupid bow! Please say a prayer for Precious. She's so tiny. She's in good spirits though, the same baby girl as always. Now I'm nervous about everything, leaving her alone, her nails scratching it, leaving her in her kennel, etc.... Here is a pic of her cuddled up with my DH after the ordeal. |
I wonder, is it possible that she has ringworm? None of her hair fell out rather the hair just matted up over the "owie". No one else has shown symptoms of ringworm and it's been a week. |
Without even a picture is it would be hard to tell what it is. Glad to see that you are going to the vet tomorrow. I'm sure she will be better very soon. :( |
Oh, Poor Baby!!! She looks very cuddley in her daddy's arms! I hate to say it but I'm hoping it's ring worm as I wonder what else could have caused that. Give her hugs from us. |
hi there - it's possible (ringworm - your vet will need to tell you that) but also....when we have bows in their hair it's good to give the hair a break especially with a puppy - it matts easily because they don't have their adult coat in also - just in case - the bow wasn't too tight was it ? I'm always careful with my 2 and make sure there's leeway when doing their topknots - not too loose - not too tight I hope she'll be ok ! I'd def keep an antibiotic cream on her until you get in to see your vet and wait until everything heals before doing any bows |
Thanks when I get home in a few hours I will be posting a pic. Not that it'll help but maybe my YT friends can reassure me. All pics I saw of ringworm looked dry and itchy. On her, it seems more fleshy. |

There's so many things it could be but thankfully you found it and are treating her - you'll have to watch for infection - the vet will tell you for sure she does look sweet all wrapped up |
The reason I'm thinking it's not ringworm is bcs there was a scab that came off. It is infected looking so I'm glad we did clean it up. I feel so bad and my heart is broken. I think it's likely the bow scratched her :( |
My vet actually mentioned to me the importance of not having topknot too tight or for too long at a time. Hopefully, this is all it is for Precious. |
Sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery and your peace of mind... |
I don't believe it's a ringworm, if I remember correctly (which I might be wrong) ringworms looks like a swirl underneath a skin. You said she had a bump a week ago and now it's open. Whatever it is I'm glad it's going to be taken care of. Does it smell? |
I'm sure the vet can give you something to clear up any infection and it will heal quickly. She does look adorable all wrapped up in her blanky laying on your DH's chest.:) |
When we pulled the scab it had a foul smell but now that we cleaned it up it doesn't smell so I'm certain it's infected |
Could it be the "bump" was a bite and perhaps she scratched at it, and the scab formed? After her bath the scab was moist and came off, exposing the "wound"?? Hopefully its something that simple and will heal with the stuff you are putting on it....;) |
