LOOK..getting better at the "Joey"

Ok, I cut Zhoie again over the weekend and I think I'm getting it. I feel so proud...I think I'm getting better at cutting the "Joey".

I ordered a number 7F blade for short cut & finishing. Ran my blade down her back a few times, still wasn't coming off short/shave look. Kept brushing the hair backwards so it would stand up, then cut and voila....it came off to the shave look.

What do you think?

Haha, I'm in the eastern panhandle, right at the MD line. Bring him on...it can only get better with more practice...if you are game, so am I. I really do love doing her grooming. However, we are still trying to grow out her shoulders where I screwed them up the 1st time. LOL.

Oh wow, you have mastered this cut, you're right, the 7F blade is the blade Mardelin says works best for this cut, and she recommended cutting again the grain of the hair or opposite of hair growth. Anyway, you did it, and it's great, you should be very proud! Zhoie looks amazing!! I don't know why, but they look so fancy in this cut, simply beautiful. You've done a great job on the face and legs too!

I think you did GREAT ! The face is extra good ! VERY VERY cute !

Thanks! I didn't do her face this time. I pretty much keep her face like this. I just comb her hair out each side and hold it out, then I use thinning shears and cut up at an angle. I use them on her chin too and trim, trim until I get the length I want. Believe me, it is by trial and error. LOL.

Your baby is adorable!!! Did she stand still for her make-over, or do you have a special technique?

I totally agree, they do look fancy. She just prances around like she thinks she a ms fancy butt too. We are still working on growing leg hair. I've always kept it trimmed because the legs tangles so easily, but we will try. May have to resolve to keep it trimmed though. She will just have the Joey with trimmed legs...LOL. Thanks!

Zhoie looks beautiful!! I hope you don't mind - I printed her pics out to take to the groomer with me. I've been following the other "Joey" thread & I've almost talked myself into trying this cut on Murphy, and Zhoie's little face is exactly how I want Murphy's done.

I use the little round lazy susan type table for her trims. Started using it when I brought it home, so she knows when she's on it, it's hair cut time. She is really good on it, but usually wants to just lay down, so I have to make her stand. It's funny, when I say face...she looks me in the eyes and doesn't move. It's like she think, uh-oh...this is dangerous...don't move, LOL.

Oh, feel free, don't mind at all. That's how I did it too. Printed Joey's pics and tried to follow it. :D

Nancy1999 cuts her Joeys hair that way, that's why everyone is calling it "the Joey." Maybe you can print off a pic and bring it in to the groomer. (The groomer might not know what "the Joey" is, unless they are a member of YT.):)

Lol, don't you just love it when they prance? Joeys hair is silky, so I don't have a problem with tangles, so I can keep leg hair longer, but dogs with cotton coats look good with the layered legs, their hair is so much fuller it looks great that way. Joey would look like chicken legs if his leg hair was cut short.
