Which is more loving/snuggly? Boy or Girl?
 

I've posted a few threads about my fiance and I getting a puppy. We want a girl but now we're hearing different things. We've heard that boys are more loving. Has anyone found this true? My parents have a very loving shetland sheep dog mix that is about 6. She is VERY friendly and loving. We are hoping that our new furbaby will eventually get along with her. Can you please give me some feedback? I appreciate it!!

You will get the affectionate girl or the non affectionate boy obviously but on average boys tend to be more affectionate than girls.

I guess it would depend on how much time and effort you give your puppy. I have a male, and he is very lovable. He loves all animals and people!! He loves giving kisses!

Boys are for sure more cuddly. Pebbles is way to independent.

my little girl, billie, follows me everywhere and wants nothing more than to be in my lap and getting rubs all the time. she is a complete cuddle bug. my little guy, riley (aka ralphie) is completely high energy and a riot, but not nearly as affectionate. the only time he is super close to me is when he is sleeping! billie is 6, riley is 1. he might grow into super loving and cuddly, but so far not so much! the next pup (coming home in June) will definitely be a girl!!

I used to think females were more affectionate, until I got my Barkley who seems to be soaking up all the lovin' we give him. Sooo, I don't think I can answer this one... They do have different personalities, tho'.

Well both my girl and my boy get along fine with other dogs, my parents two toy poodles are females and mine go there frequently and they all get along.

My girls prefer girls cause the other girls sniff their tail areas from a distance instead of the boy noses touching the tail area. :eek: A girl dog will sniff then walk away a boy dog keeps sniffing and sniffing and my girls are like QUIT already!!

Of course, every dog is an individual but I have 2 girls and 1 boy. I always have had girl dogs and thought I preferred them but finally got my boy in Feb and I finally understand what those with boys are talking about. Someone recently described it as "girls do what you ask because they have to :rolleyes: but boy dogs do it because they want to." My girls are lap dogs but on their terms. My boy is truly a lap dog. He even lets my son carry him around and almost wraps his paws around my sons neck. And you know there is a reason they call girl dogs the "b" word. :p They are definitely a little moodier and not quite so happy go lucky. But really, I wouldn't trade my girls either!

The breeder (and I use that word loosly here) that I got my little boy from talked us into getting a boy because they are supposed to be more cuddly, I have to agree with alot of the replies you already have, it's individual. He is VERY NEEDY and snuggly, I think I made him that way. I recently acquired a special needs little girl, at first she would have nothing to do with me, she's been here 7 weeks now and is as NEEDY as my baby boy, she had a vet visit two days ago and now she insists she can't walk due to arthritis, she also has arthritis in the neck due to a SHOCK COLLAR (she weighs 3 lbs btw), so today she can't move her neck. She is in my lap constantly and now I will spend the night with heat packs on her neck and take her in tomorrow and get a shot for her. It's individual, and I think it also depends on how much time you spend waiting on your little bundle of love. I spoil mine way to much so don't follow everything I say, I never put my little boy down for more than just peeing for the first 6 months of his little life, he was only 1/2lb when I got him.

my boy is more cuddly, my girl is more into everything ,if their into something their not suposted to be, i know my girl started it .my boy is to sweet and loving to do any wrong.lol ,I tell him she made you do it did'nt she.It's kinda of a joke in my house

Thank you so much for all of these replies!!! We still want a girl though and are just hoping she is a snuggler! She will be our only pet and will be spoiled. So hopefully she'll soak it all up!

I can definitely agree with the others that said that Boys are cuddlier. Also, girls can be agressive towards each other more than a girl/boy combo. Obviously this is a generalization and every dog is different, but this is what I have read and experienced in general.

In my opinion, yes. If the girls are spayed, it would likely be less of an issue. The general idea is, same-sex dogs will compete more for dominance, which can cause problems. A male/female combination is likely to do better together. Again, this is a generalization, but I feel holds true.

However, make sure if you have a girl and a boy, that they are spayed and neutered!

We really want a girl. We will spay her. My parents have female shetland sheep dog mix. We are just hoping that they get along. My parents female is also spayed.

I have 3 girls and 1 boy. They all snuggle, but at different levels. I didn't have any of them as puppies. My 1 girl, though, came to me quite wild. She only wanted to play. Constantly! It's all she knew how to do.

So, I set about teaching her that quiet time can be fun too. It took almost 3 months before she finally relaxed enough and fell asleep in my lap.
She adores her Dad. When he comes home from work, he puts his briefcase down and sits down and she's in his arms, on her back, kissing and snuggling. It's almost disgusting to watch.

She will come to me too throughout the day for cuddles and kisses, but not for any length of time. But that's fine, at least she's not playing all the time now.

So, my point is this... if you want snuggling, teach it or at least give it time to happen (after play or when they get tired). I don't think it matters much if they are male or female... it's more the bond you create with them. And some dogs take longer to bond with than others, boys and girls alike. Just my thoughts from my experience with my crew...

I find, like everyone else pretty much, that girls are the b*tchier and more snobby, lol. I prefer boy dogs. Girl dogs typically will fight more w/ each other but of course a lot of people live with a few girls and have no problems at all. I've had girl dogs my whole life and always loved them, but Jackson is my first boy and I think I will own male dogs for the rest of my life. :) My dads female dog can be a big lover and kisser but only on her terms. If you go to pick her up or give her loving when she doesn't want it, she will growl at you, and sometimes bite but of course that part is a training issue. She's more stubborn and when you ask her to do something, she looks at you like you're crazy. My dads boy dog and Jackson though will do whatever you ask and are happy to oblige!

I also grew up with a female German Shepherd and Golden Retriever. Both were very loving to us but only when they wanted. The German Shepherd would come into my bed with me for a bit, sleep in bed with me for maybe an hour and then go into the basement to sleep by herself cuz she was done! lol. We lived with my moms female cockapoo and was the same way. She would kiss you forever and then when she was done cuddling... she was done and didn't want anything to do with you lol. My aunts female husky is the same way.

I originally wanted a girl also. However the litter turned out to be 2 boys. I was very disappointed at first, but then started researching about boys. The things I was coming up with were that boys were more lovey, girls more moody, etc. Well...I went to visit the "boys" and the more I visited (breeder is a friend) the more attached I became. I can't imagine having a girl now. Copper is very loving and attached to me.

If you want to dress up a girl, I get that. I put cute harness vests on Copper and he looks and is very sweet. When I get out a harness vest he gets very excited because he knows we are going somewhere. I was never into dressing a dog, but the vests work perfectly with a leash.

I have a girl and a boy, Muffin(girl) and Boomer(boy). Although Muffin is cuddly, Boomer is much more cuddly than she is. I too have heard that boys are more affectionate than girls and I have to agree, but if you only have a girl you'll never know the difference. :) Good luck with your search. Can't wait to see pics!

I had originally wanted a girl for my first but when I told my breeder what I wanted (calm, cuddly, outoing)she picked louis and he was perfect! He is a total cuddle bug and I have heard that boy yorkies are more snugglie than girls. However, my Paris is a HUGE cuddle bug too! So I think it really depends on the dog and finding a breeder that knows every in and out of her litter and can help you pick the pup that has all of the characteristics you want!

I have 3 girls and only one is 'bi**y'. The other 2 are very cuddly and sweet. My male is very sweet but does not like to cuddle or be too close to you. They are all diff. regardless of gender

My lil girl is super affectionate and loving. She knows who her mommy is! :D

I can't keep my girls off me. If they're not kissing me - they're kissing each other.....They're very gay :)
