im getting my second pup tomorrow she was born feb 16 2010
i believe i have already have everything......
heres what i have so far pink blanket, chew toys crate,clothes
nutri-cal for puppys, baby wipes,baby shampoo
i have coby on wellness so i am going to start her on that.
if she likes it.. fine if not ill try Eukanuba or Science diet
i have never used the other two because coby eats wellness,
so i will buy 2 starter bags of the 2
if theres anything else you guys can come up with please let me
know because i will be heading the to the store in a few... i pick her
up tomorrow morning

Dont try Eukanuba or Science Diet... if she doesnt like Wellness try something of a similar quality to it.

Do you have dishes? puppy pads? might want to consider one of the toys that you can heat up or one that has a heartbeat they really seem to calm the puppies.

Sounds like you have pretty much everything just wanted to say congrats on your new addition :)

Do they have the heartbeat one for dogs? We have a little puppy that gets scared alot.

I used to hear Chloe turn it back on after it stopped during the night... she still turns it on sometimes now at over a year old... she really loved it as a puppy though.

You throw it in the microwave for 30 seconds or something and it stays warm for awhile... I heated it up every night before bed when she slept in her expen or anytime before I went out and she would curl up right on top of it.

I agree. I had Sophie on Eukanuba but after researching here and other web sites I chose Wellness because of the nutritional and safe ingredients. Sophie actually likes the Wellness small breed better, too!

no they're two different companies...but if you're going to buy any food from petsmart...go with blue buffalo

i love eukanuba..my dogs like it..the coat looked wonderful while on it
my moms are on iams and pedigree..healthy beautiful coats (shetlies)

im on purina pro selects all natural now..but my puppies are on eukanuba and have been and they have gorgeous coats already..very shiny..they are plump and healthy just got the A+ at the vets....

i myself dont get into the hype on the foods..i think some people get a bit carried away about how bad they are if they arent hollistic or all natural..if it was bad it wouldnt be sold and there would be millons of unhealthy pups and then the FDA would be involved.... and isnt the akc show sponsered by Ekuanuba..i think that should say something in its self.

its your choice, your dollar..speak with your vet..whenever i brought home a new puppy i mixed in whatever they were currently were on with mine and they did fine..the only reason i switched to the purina natural was the corn in the other food was making teddy itch...they like the purina pro selects all natural turkey n barley puppy forumula (i feed puppy to my adults for the extra nutrients) and teddy likes it so much the first time he had it. he marked it..LOL
it doesnt even last in the bowl like the other foods would.

Your statement that "if it was bad it wouldn't be sold" is far from true. Current thinking is with proper nutrition many of our pets would/could live a much longer life than they normally do. Also, Eukanuba sponsoring any AKC show tells me - Eukanuba has the most money to spend on advertising....not that their food is best or even good for that matter.

the cheap kibble have a lot of fillers in them...not good at all!

The FDA is not always on the side of the consumer...you dont think these big companies pay off the FDA to say what they want?

i cant agree..i have seen many pets live long lives and healthy to boot with foods such as alpo..and i dont feed it i dont think its a good food but pets can live long lives on that too

well i know eukanuba isnt cheap... i dont believe they are paid off because think of the law suits that would be filled when things went wrong

i dont think its right to convince people that the cheaper the food the short life span i for one dont believe it..let see my spitz lived to be 18 and we had to put her down..lived her life on pedigree i think
my moms shetlies are 12, 13, 14,and dallas just passed at 15 lived on iams and pedigree..

If you're satisfied with the average life span of a yorkie being approx 14 years, then ago ahead and feed Eukanuba or some of the other more heavily advertised brands. Recent studies have indicated that with proper nutrition our pet dogs could live 20+ years. I'm hoping to have the oldest yorkies on record, so I'll feed what is considered to be an optimum diet.

I think there are "lots of pets on it" simply because that brand (along with a couple of others) have been what is predominately on store shelves. People have a tendency to buy what is convenient, not necessarily what is best. You only have to look at the fast food industry to prove that fact.

what kind of quality of life does a 20 yr old yorkie have? not that i wouldnt want mind to live forever..but i think there is more then the specific brand of food that is extending their life..genetics, vet care, etc..

eukanuba is shelved only at pet stores along side 10-20 other brands..so there are lots of brands that are convenient when you are already at the pet store..some of those brands are also "better brands" that are mentioned here..

Well as far as quality of life, it would be no worse than a 14 year old yorkie that has been fed mostly "junk food" (which is what I call Eukanuba and others) during it's life. And, their quality of life actually might be alot better bc the junk foods are suspected to be the cause of many debilitating illnesses, including cancers, kidney failures, etc.

Rendering plants have fooled the public with covering up the reality of what dog food is actually made of. Most dogs do okay on this fake food for a while but as they age the health issues start...allergies, diabetes, cancer, shorter life, intestinal issues from years of eating chemicals and ingredients that SHOULD NEVER have been eaten in the first place. These companies pay millions in marketing and sponsorship to Vets and the AKC, UKC, CKC. They are no better than companies like Kraft, Kelloogs, General Mills and too many others to name for humans, which produces processed food...aka unhealthy JUNK.

but i thinks its fair to show both sides.. reviews on different brands of food are opinions not facts..what works best for you and your dog(s) should be what matters

i dont see how eukanuba is classifieds as "junk food" for dogs..i consider milk bones and puperoni junk food for dogs..

i know my vet recommends purina one.. i think he sells blue buffalo or wellness i cant remeber the vet i worked for recommended science diet but they were paid by science diet and got all the free food stands ...my opinion on science diet is...its sucks!..lol

all of the above are genetic as well and come with age..just like humans..you can be the healthiest human and do everything right but life has a way of letting you know you cant control it all...

Genetics has nothing to do with what I'm saying and has become an excuse in this world of lazy, cheap, eating habits. Do you eat a lot of processed food and claim it as good for you because you can see it, buy it, cook it, smell it, taste it, eat it, and are still living? :confused:

If so... :( that doesn't make it good for you. But I do know for some people (not saying you just in general) that is the norm and processed food is all they know of, which is very sad to me because they deserve better.

see i do think think its genetic that causes those problems you can be a health nut n still get cancer..because its genetic because there are things out there that we dont know about. sure food is a big concern..i wouldnt feed el cheapo alpo on a regular..and eating cheesburgers every day is a no no but it genetics are a big deal and play a huge part..hear that from the doctors all the time on the news, in person, on tv...


i love my dogs just like everyone on here i purchase what i want my dogs on just like everyone else here and i am very happy and confident with my brands/choices of dog food
every one has opinions..but some peoples opinions are pushed a little to hard.(a general comment not directed at anyone)..i think its great to make suggestions and give examples on your views and opinions and thats what i am doing...sharing my view and my opinions and experiences

We all have our opinions and different experiences to share and that is the great thing about YT. But there are facts too. Genetics are there but unhealthy food subsitutes do cause some issues to surface, when they may have not ever came forward with a healthy diet. People are so sick and unhealthy now, and it's not just about the genetics... it's about the diet and. We have passed on this same quick food fix mentality to the feeding of our pets. They now have some of the same health issues as humans. The dots aren't hard to connect but most choose not to go there because it's easier, cheaper, and more convenient to use the quick food fix.

To the OP: I am so sorry to have gone rambling off about foods on your thread :)
