Puppy cut went wrong I just took my Charlie to get his first haircut and it went ALL wrong. He came back practically shaved with just his head having more hair. I asked for a puppy cut but OBVIOUSLY they didn't understand me. I plan on taking him to another groomer next time (I went to Petsmart this time) but I wanted to bring a picture or two with me of how I want him to look. Does anybody have nice pictures of puppy cuts? |
1 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of my Ruby with her puppy cut. Sorry you had a bad experience with the groomer,:(but remember it will grow back:). Attachment 315871 |
Oops, sorry this wasn't what you wanted. Your little charlie is so cute, I'm sure he is still just as adorable, but now he is ready for a hot summer. Sorry I don't have any puppy cut pictures, but I might suggest that you try a mobile groomer, that way you can be there to talk to the groomer as she works, so both of you are on the same page. Thats what I did with Sofia the first time and now the groomer just knows what to do. |
1 Attachment(s) Chip has always been in a puppy cut. Here's what his looks like. |

sorry he came out different then what you expected. Did you specify to the groomer how much hair you wanted cut off or left on? simply saying a puppy cut means different things to different people and groomers. to me as a groomer, puppy cuts mean same length all over the body including the legs. I ask the owner how much hair they want taken off or left on the body. Some want a very short puppy cut, which is also like a shave down using blades, and others want a little longer hair left on so a comb is used over the blade to leave length on. The head is typically always left longer then the body unless the owner asks for it to be really short (most people don't want that tho). do you have pictures of your baby's new do? I'm sure he still looks adorable. |
Thank goodness it grows back fast!! :p Thank goodness it grows back fast!! I thought I could do it myself, and the first time I gave my little boy a cut  it didn't go so well, it was uneven so I cut a little more to fix it, and a little more, and a little more......you get the picture. Lol. Well needless to say that by the time I was finished :( he was naked...lol...My husband came in and he couldn't stop laughing, I was so mad!! I messed up trim job on his head too, he ran around the yard that summer looking like a surfer dude!! I was so embarrassed. But Hey - it grew back....Thank goodness!;) :aimeeyork I bet your little one still looks cute as a button. |
Oh no, I'm so sorry. That's almost as bad as if we get a shorter haircut than expected. I worry about that too... I want to get a puppy cut for Boomer, but I'm worried it'll be too short. At least it'll grow and you can try again...bring a pic next time. :) |
I would just bring in the picture you have in your avatar. You can't get much cuter than that. :) |

Does anyone know where I can find good pictures of the different cut styles? I think taking one in is a great tip. I made an appointment next week for Rhett's first groomer visit. His hair isn't very long, so this is a "getting to know you" type appointment. But I'd like to have pictures for future reference. |

1 Attachment(s) Sorry that happened to you. Here's a photo of one of Cooper's puppy cuts. His first haircut turned out to be awful! I picked him up and he looked like a homeless schnauzer. His "puppy cut" was a buzz cute with a long mustache and beard. I switched groomers and his haircuts have been wonderful since. Don't worry. It grows back fast. Sometimes too fast. |

I went to Petco for our first "puppy' cut. We gave her the length that we wanted and he turned out great. Just way to pricey ;) Just remember it will grow back! |
haha, I groom my boys myself, and I'm sorta just playing the whole "learn as we go" thing...I must say my boys have had some haircuts that I wasn't too proud of, haha. It grows back! That's what I keep telling myself :) |

they did the same thing to my chloe! chloe was as cute as can be, & she still is freaking adorable and i love her to death but they totally shaved her body. to be honest, i'm glad that they didnt chop off all the hair around her face altogether (i specifically told them not to cut much hair off of the face but i should've said something about the body too, obviously!) i took her to a salon that was supposed to be one of the best in manhattan. the regular groomer apparently wasnt there though. this was her very first cut, & i'm pretty upset about this. she looks like she needs a fur coat. |
Yes, it does grow back fast. I wish I could get a product called "HAIR NO GROW" and 'NAILS NO GROW". But - with a living, breathing little furball, that'll never happen. |

I'm one of those "do it yourself" pet owners too. Sometimes Bailey looks great and at other times I wish I could put a paper bag on her. LOL I have been getting better with time. Those little curved end manicure scissors are great for getting to the problem areas. |
I am fortunate to have a groomer locally owned who can do a great puppy cut. Plus I can sit and watch while they work...and suggest shorter or longer as they work. Wonderful set of folks there. :) |

i understand for gatsbys first haircut i asked for a puppy cut and they gave him a Schnauzer cut i was so upset they told me they misunderstood and they thought that was what i wanted they told me it was very popular with yorkies i had to take him to another groomer to be evened out and he ended up short but it was not so bad |
Don't let it stress you out too much. When I first got Roxie about a month ago she had super long hair, it was to the point that it just looked messy and with our hot weather I decided to get her groomed. I took her, and she looked ok, but I thought hmm...a little more should have been cut around her eyes, etc.lol..So I got a pair of scissors (bad idea) and cut a place here and there..you get the picture..lol..Shes still adorable, but we are waiting on it to grow out since I screwed it up. I need to have self control when it comes to those dang scissors..lol..dont worry though her hairs growing so fast already. Do you have picture of the new hair cut? |
I'm sorry about the bad hair cut! When I took Tanner to his first grooming appointment I told them specifically what I wanted, I may have seemed a bit obsessive and controlling but he came out how I wanted. I took him to Pet Co, and it turned out really nice and it was only around $16! So just ask a lot of questions and be very specific. But your little guy is super cute :) |

Another idea is to stop people on the street who have dogs with nice haircuts because just like people even if you took a great picture to a crappy hairstylist they may just try and do their own thing! Try and get referrals in town and scare the life out of them when you go in and tell them to do it exactly like what you are asking! Nothing peeves me more than when groomers and hairstylists alike think they know better! I take my brood 30 minutes one way to our groomer who owns a puppy parlor/kennel on her farm and she let's me stand there while she grooms Louis and Paris! The drive and price are worth what she does! My sister went to her first with her yorkie Ross so I didn't have to look far! Sometimes referrals are the best way to go along with your fantastic idea of taking in a picture...like they say a picture is worth a thousand words! Your avatar is adorable! What a darling little face! Geez! I love yorkies more and more everyday! You couldn't find a cuter breed! Good luck! :-) |

I LOVE your babies names! Very cute and different! |
1 Attachment(s) Same thing happened to me....may invest in a cutting kit and do it myself next time. The grooming mishap was in January and it's just now growing back finally. I attached a pic... |
Yikes...I think we all made mistakes with bad haircuts but the hair grows back and hopefully our babies don't know they have a bad cut. My first yorkies first haircut was so awful my Dad commented so coming from a man who wouldn't notice if I colored my hair purple was huge! I really felt like I let Lola down. The groomer was a referral from our company event planner whom is so very particular I said "great, you take your yorkie there". Well.....I "showed" her what had happend and she said "you asked for someone who was going to treat Lola like gold........you never asked about the talent".....UTHHHH. Well.....I found a wonderful groomer so keep looking and ask lot's of questions....lol. Good Luck;) |
