Should We Adopt One of Them? I'm really considering adopting another puppy. Here are the two I'm looking at. Do you guys think we should go for it? Thanks, Adoptable Chihuahua: Taffy: Petfinder Adoptable Chihuahua: Lynnie: Petfinder |
Adorable little ones I would say go for it! |
maybe its just me, but I want to see the dog in person before I purchase one. Its such a huge committment I just couldn't purchase from a picture. Are you able to see the dogs you're considering in person before you buy? Good luck, they're cutie putie's for sure. :) |
these are both rescues. Taffy is from a puppy mill and Lynnie is in rescue as well. i'm not "purchasing" them. I'll be adopting one of them, and i'm sure the rescue organization will make sure we meet and see them before allowing us to adopt. we'll prob. ask that we have a trial weekend just to see if the new pup will work well in our family and mesh with Sadie. |
lynnie I like lynnie she is adorable they both are, but she is cute |

I'd be a little worried about hydrocephalus in Taffy. She has eyes that appear to bulge. |
My Doodlebug is a puppy mill rescue BUT since that time I have had a change of heart regarding rescues that purchase from puppy mills. There are so many dogs that need homes in shelters that rescues that PAY a miller to gain freedom no longer makes sense to me. It is no better than going to the pet shop to purchase a puppy. Before you get upset with me think about it this way.......if the millers get even $50 from a rescue to buy their unwanted puppies/dogs then have succeeded in making money off the back of that poor dog one final time. There are dogs dying in shelters that could be in the rescues that are paying millers for their unwanted dogs. :( |

It wasn't in their bios it was on the link to the information about the rescue. Let me see if I can find it again. Something along the lines of "we have saved 65 dogs with year from a miller" |
This summer we have rescued 60 puppy mill dogs. Because of the economy and public education, puppy sales are down, and mass breeders are being driven out of business. We need your help to be able to continue to rescue dogs in large numbers. You can help by donating for their care or by helping us place the dogs in wonderful loving homes so that we have space to comfortably house more. Our donation form can be found online at Hearts United for Animals. You can be a Buddy to a dog and write a special message to him while he waits for his forever home, or you can sponsor a Sanctuary Sweetheart - a dog who will remain at the sanctuary forever. All of the over 200 beautiful dogs at the sanctuary can be found online at Hearts United for Animals. I am assuming they did not get 60 dogs from a mill without purchasing them. Other thing is that I am always suspicion of Sanctuaries that ship around the country. Many times they are mills in disguise as a rescue. :thumbdown We do send dogs on airplanes to new homes if there are safe flights. The cost of the flight is additional to the adoption fee. The cost varies depending upon the size of the dog, the airline, and the the method of shipping. We use our own kennels so that you do not have to buy one but ask that they be returned as soon as possible. This is the second rescue Lillie I think is her name. |
i also just read that in their history they've rescued over 5,000 mill dogs...i'm wanting to believe that they are getting the dogs by shutting down the mills, but i'm just feeling/smelling a rat here now that i'm reading more...i'm with you. doesn't sound good to me. sounds way too big to be a good little rescue. 300 dogs in this place. i'm not sure i'd trust em' |
Go to their site and they have an elaborate set up too! |
While I can see the appeal to people who like Chihuahuas -- I agree. I think there are plenty of dogs in shelters who need to be adopted quickly as to not be PTS. I think that's a little more important than adopting a "baby" chi who will be snagged up more quickly than an older shelter dog. And just a side note, I thought that Sadie was a "one dog type of gal".... what has since changed? I would hate for a dog to be adopted just to be rehomed later. |
This is none of my business and you don't have to respond to my thread but are you thinking about having kids down the road? Just think about it as these little ones could very easily be in your life for 15 years and having children and a number of dogs can be a problem. Just food for thought.:) |
