He has free reign in the house and is only out with us, but anything can happen. I like I will look into the collar with the tag on it. He is just so tiny he can almost turn his head all the way around and he even chews the ornaments off his clothes. |
Ugh...I wish I had read this thread sooner. I just bought Trixie her first collar and tag...with her name and both of my phone numbers on it. I think the "daily medication needed" is a brilliant idea! Next time I will put it on her tag (I'm sure she will get a new one :D). I am nervous about the whole collar/tag issue, but a few days ago, I found a lost pomeranian pup wandering around the street near the highway. I picked her up and called the numbers on her tag. She was lucky because I found her owners and returned her. I would be crazed if I lost Trixie and she had no tags or any id on her at all. :animal-pa |
Okay....so the collar is not working out with Trixie. She just can't seem to get used to it with the tag hanging from it and keeps trying to eat the tag. Also, I am worried about leaving her in her pen with the collar on....what if she jumps up and it gets caught or something... Does anyone ever leave a harness on their pups with a tag on it? I was wondering if they make a harness without the double d rings, just a single, that is comfortable enough for Trixie to wear all the time....maybe a silk harness??? If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Thanks. :animal-pa |
We always wear a collar with tags. The Red Dingo tags are the best. They are tiny yet thick so they can't chew on it and they last forever. |
Maxine has different tags for all special occasions and outfits, but does not wear them indoors anymore as she is always within site of us, and she can't escape outside. He is walked with a harness, so no collar. She is chipped. The big dog has a tag on his collar, and he is chipped also, but he is not walked with a harness, but a collar. Personal choice. Now one daughter always keeps collars on her 2 crazy poodles. |

Why a single ring vs double? We ordered silk harnesses from Chattiesmom a YT seller and they're awesome. They have the double ring but bc she makes them custom maybe she can do the single ring. Please let me know why you would prefer the single. Someone posted above that you can get info. you would put on tags embroidered on a collar. I wonder if this is possible for Chattiesmom to do as well. |

Tags and a microchip!!!!! I found my Yorkie in the middle of a busy road...no collar... Took him to SICSA, Animal Shelter and My vet to check for a microchip...no microchip...put the word out everywhere and did a lost dog thing at all three shelters here. No owner came forward...and I had no way to try to contact anyone. Took him to the Vet the first day and he had bad ear infections and his teeth were not good. Went ahead and paid for the meds for the ear. Weeks later...he in now Microchipped and tagged and has a forever home! So Tag and Microchip!!! |
Funny thing, last night DH asked if I was going to get tags for the babies, and I told him it was on my to do list for today. I went to Petsmart and bought the tags today, so yes, I feel much better since they are now 'tagged'. |

What about something like this? The slider tag the last one in the pic, and the smallest size they offer is 3/4". 2 FOR 1 ENGRAVED PET ID TAGS DOG CAT COLLAR CHARMS - eBay (item 160428611565 end time Apr-29-10 07:02:04 PDT) As far as a collar, we use a cat collar with an elastic, or the kind with the breakaway clip. |
regarding "needs meds" vs. REWARD-- I prefer "reward". Here is why: 1--If someone actually steals your pup, he probably isn't going to care that much about giving a dog meds if the dog seems to be healthy. 2--If someone steals your pup, he likely is short on cash. the reward might entice him to return the little dog that he "found". I am a firm believer in tags. Some people here are afraid they pose a danger, but I don't know of a single specific example where a dog has actually been harmed by tags. And collars are OK if they are just used to hold the tag and if they are fitted properly. When walking on leash, you should use a harness. Puppies might chew a tag initially, but they outgrow it. Both of my dogs have collars and tags. They feel naked without them, and they come to me and sit patiently while I put them on. The collar/tags are only removed at bath time. |
